Get rid of the quickswitch. The game was at its cleanest without it.

  • Like the title said. Quickswitch has got to go. It's an exploit, not skill. Got people here sinking to megalodons and can't helm to save their lives, but because they can quickswitch they have the advantage. Nonsense.

And oufcourse, after the quickswitchers sink due to their talentless ventures, they come back, grief and even start swearing and cursing and taunting and singing when they do get you. Can't even keep an open mic session with these guys in the game and the kids around in the room. Why Rare even caters to the exploiters, I don't know. Must be the same loud minority that was the the Arena crowd.

And then when you report them, you don't have proof. Come on now.

  • @sollimino you can't get rid of something that doesn't exist. The swap SPEED was increased. You cannot fire faster than the intended swap rate now, but you can aim and act with your weapon much faster, making it feel less clunky and smoother to use. There is a moment of pause between when you can fire, even if you're aiming your second gun directly right after firing your first.

It sounds more like you had a rough experience with toxic players, which is its own issue entirely. I would definitely suggest making a report. If you don't have a clip, just give as much information to support as you can. Even if there is no ban handed out, the feedback they receive can be helpful for future moderation decisions

Edit for clarification: It was reduced from 1.3s to 1.0s specifically from what I've been told

Reporting these players is a total waste of time. They don't ban anyone, they get the upper hand and players have left because of the horrid cheats, exploits and crude behavior over microphones. It's ridiculous.
And the quickswitch does exist dude. Just need to get your butt out of Safer Seas to experience it.

Got people here sinking to megalodons and can't helm to save their lives

If your naval was better than theirs then they wouldn't have an opportunity to board and "quickswap" (just normal swap now) wouldn't be an advantage.

  • @worst-tdmer I got tired after being chased for 20 minutes after I already sank them them the first time. No need to defend the exploiters, touch some grass. Play fair.

  • @sollimino

If you sank them once then shouldn't be an issue sinking them again, no reason to run for 20 minutes.

No need to defend the exploiters, touch some grass. Play fair.

Not an exploit any more, just get better.

  • If everyone is super, then no one will be.
    -Syndrome, The Incredibles

This logic applies here. If everyone can switch faster, then it’s just a new standard.

  • Got people here sinking to megalodons and can't helm to save their lives, but because they can quickswitch they have the advantage

Preach. It funny those kids think they are skillful yet when a simple npc arrived and “disturbs” there pvp. It’s unfair and that why they lose or can’t enjoy the game.

  • @sollimino

Quick switch/quickswap (I’m assuming you mean with double gun) no longer requires any key combination to get the top speed. Rare made it so recently and now everyone can do it, including you, simply by switching from one gun to the next.

In other words, you got killed by people who were not exploiting. There are still double gun haters around here so you might still get some support if you jump on that ship, though. Their support group mostly consist of pirates who think that their one weapon, sword, should be better than two weapons.

Double gunning does not equate to toxicity or a lack of skill, that’s nonsense. Go on Facebook or under any YouTube comments section and observe the double gunner free toxicity fest.

  • @sollimino
I dont want to be mean, but that kinda sounds like a skill issue. They arent even using an exploit. Everyone can switch weapons at the same speed.
And if your naval is so much better, why were they even able to board you?

  • @sollimino there’s no quickswap exploit?

  • @captain-knyt There is, with the sprint even.

I don't want to be mean too but you seem to glare over certain things when it's not to your advantage. You can read my old reply again in this quote.

  • I dont want to be mean, but that kinda sounds like a skill issue. They arent even using an exploit. Everyone can switch weapons at the same speed.

And yet. Not everyone can or does. Because it feels cheap.
And if that is the case. Must be a skill issue when a skeleton ship/Meg/Kraken spawns during PvP combat and causes problems for the one side. Mind you a simple npc threat that is super easy to deal with. Yet players complain about it only because it’s annoying. So the dev nerf it so it doesn’t happen.
That is more a skill issue than anything.
I can deal with both no problems. Yet others can not. Very weird.

  • Quickswap as an exploit doesn't exist anymore, only cheaters (3rd party software useres) can still swap faster than the current switch (1 second), but that would be called insta swap.

The dublegunn gameplay is now objectively better then it ever was, you might not like that, but at no point does anyone have an unfair advantage through it, since quickswap is now the standart and doesn't require any special inputs anymore.
This change only fixed past mistakes.

  • @sollimino Go ahead and launch up sot right now and shoot a gun, swap, sprint then shoot another gun. You get to aim the weapon early, but you CANNOT shoot before the timer (1 second) is over, unless you have literal cheats.

Swapping regularly, and sprinting after the swap yields the exact same time between shots

This is how og quickswap got removed in the first place, people who have no idea what it actually is/does calling for it's removal

Check YouTube and streamers. Already found exploits to bypass the second mark and pop shots between each other.
It always happens. Exploits found and remain. And if you can’t do these same exploits, your disadvantage because of it.

Not everyone can quickly press a button to do single task without finding an exploit to accomplish it. But hey, it fine. It what the current modern gamers want, exploits and cheap shots to play video games.

  • @burnbacon why don’t you link some of these YouTubers and streamers?

  • You're not going to find any empathy in this community. It's not an exploit, It's a gameplay tweak that Rare themselves made, they are the arbiters when it comes to balance and this is what they want their game to be - double-gun fast TTK heaven. They've handed free reign to the sweats, so may as well get used to it, play their way, or switch games. Don't whine about it, it won't achieve much here.

Personally, I've just decided to not care so much about the actual game and just stick to the communities I'm in. I'll still play it, chill, do what comms I can, and take my losses as they come. There are plenty of other games to play when I need a break.

  • @burnbacon I think your logical processors need to reboot, because you are trying to equate a factor that can be influenced with a dynamic factor that can only be influenced under very specific circumstances.

To start with; for the argument of “is the new swap speed balanced,” we need to always assume that two players of equal skill are fighting, set the circumstances they are in, and take into account the pros and cons of every weapon.

That being said, the choice of weapon is 100% up to the player, and based on that choice they will perform better, worse, or equal to their counterpart. This is what’s called META (Most Effective Tactic Available), “tactics” in this case being the weapons you use and how you use them - different tools are good for different tasks.

PvE spawns influencing this are not a player choice, nor should they be taken lightly. Since we are operating under the assumption that the players have equal skill and the same weapons, even a slight imbalance can offset the playing field, and the player being aggressed by PvE is obviously going to have a harder time.

In simplified terms: your comparison is gugu gaga. You cannot compare something the player can choose to optimize performance with something the game uses to challenge players... and keep a straight face while doing so.

I'm not going to put in the effort and make an argument for or against the current swapping times, since everyone else is already doing a okay job with that.
