giving back

  • A short tavern tale about karma crates.

Today I have left 20+ storage crates at different outposts.
Filled with cannon balls, chain shots, wooden planks and food.
... and I enjoyed doing it, while being bored at work.

Normally when I play with my crew, we play as reapers
and enjoy some naval PvP battles, clear a FoF or sink skelly ships.
When we are done we always leave our supply crate at the merchant.

Today I was playing solo and after a short session of clearing
a few phantom forts, I got bored and wanted to do something else.

I do enjoy to look into barrels and see what I can find ...
So I decided to "give something back" and buy a few storage crates.
I started by leaving my phantom fort session storage crate at the merchant.

Then I scuttled to a new sea and bought my 1st storage crate of 20+ total.
Filled that crate up with my ships inventory and looked into all the outpost barrels.
When I was done, I scuttled to a new sea again and repeated it. 20+ times.

Time went by fast doing this and I almost forgot I was bored.
It can actually be quite relaxing to do this.
So many ways to play and enjoy this game!

In fact: I enjoyed doing this so much, that I want to do this again tomorrow.
So in addition of leaving my crews supply crate at the merchant after coop play
I will start to buy some storage crates and leave them as karma crates,
whenever I feel bored at work... hoping that people will find and enjoy them.

  • June 5th, evening:

    • 16 more crates left at different outposts
    • found 1 karma crate from other players, cheers! :)

    June 6th:

    • 20 crates left at different outposts
    • +1 end of session crate
    • found 1 storage crate floating in water (saved and sorted it)

    notes:

    • number of karma crates since June 5th 2025: 48
    • this is all happening on EU servers (germany)
    • 1 in 10 storage crates seems to get stuck (prompt to retrieve that crate not working)
    • buying anything from the shipwright does get the crate unstuck (yay!)

My crew will be leaving a few storage crates at different outposts,
over the next few days during the gold and glory event.
The plan is to leave a crate at each outpost that we sail by or sell at.

  • June 7th:

    • 4 mid session crates (from fleet or forts)
    • 2 end of session crates

    June 8th:

    • 18 crates left at different outposts
    • 2 mid session crates (from fleet or forts)
    • 1 end of session crate

    June 9th:

    • 8 crates left at different outposts
    • 3 mid session crates (from fleet or forts)
    • found one of my own storage crates on server #7 (^_^)
    • 2 end of session crates

    notes:

    • number of karma crates since June 5th 2025: 98
    • I still enjoy doing this and find it relaxing
    • did not find a single storage crate from other people during Gold&Glory
  • The trifecta of terror still exists!

I am a megalodon hunter and I also sink every skelly ship I can find.
Today I was waiting for my meg to spawn and instead got the kraken.

Okay then ... starting to fire my cannons at the beast,
when I suddenly hear the megs raw behind my ship. Nice!

So I prepare to fight meg and kraken, firing shots left and right,
getting slapped by the kraken when the skelly ship music starts playing ... oh no! (^-^)'

You might already guess which type of skelly ship spawned in: a gally!
Fun part is: those 3 also tend to attack each other a lot.

The meg started his biting animation and last second switched target to the gally. Yay!
So I had enough time to hit the last kraken arm to defeat the first beast.

Then I started putting more holes into the skelly gally, while ignoring the meg for a bit,
hoping it would keep biting the gally instead: and yes, it worked: another bite into the gally! Hah!

On to the last beast. Thanks for helping me with the skelly gally, big guy!
Time to eat these cannon balls, here catch!

So I managed to defeat another trifecta of terror. Awesome adventure. That was fun!

  • June 10th:

    • 16 crates left at different outposts
    • 3 outpost + fort + outpost crates (15 minute meg spawns: 0)
    • 1 mid session crates (from PVE: fleet, skelly ships, captains, washed up on the beach)
    • 2 end of session crates

    notes:

    • you only need to talk to the shipwright to get crate unstuck at the merchant!
    • shoutout to @R2D28201 and @Faxi3000 for delivering a storage crate to me
    • (while also trying to sneak on my mast when I spawned on the outpost, hehe!) (^-^)

    June 11th:

    • 9 crates left at different outposts
    • 9 outpost + fort + outpost crates (15 minute meg spawns: 1, blue, 15m 31s)
    • 0 mid session crates (from PVE: fleet, skelly ships, captains, washed up on the beach)

    • number of karma crates since June 5th 2025: 138
    • I have tried to find different ways to do this (to spice things up for myself)

    outpost crate:

    • buy storage crate and fruits (from shipwright)
    • check all barrels on the outpost
    • all supplies from my own ship
    • listening to music while doing this
    • scuttle to next server

outpost + fort + outpost crate:

    • outpost crate + sail to nearest fort + sail to next outpost
    • sailing in a way that enables the rare 15 min megalodon to spawn in
    • scuttle to next server

    mid session crate:

    • storage crate from PvE stuff (fleet, skelly ships, captains, washed up on the beach)
    • adding some useful items to these crates here and there
    • these crates usually end up having 200+ cannon balls and 20+ chain shots
    • dropping them of at outposts, when I sail by or sell there

    end of session crate:

    • all the stuff that ends up on my ship after playing a long session
    • often 500+ cannon balls, 50+ chains (unless I had to use them myself ^^)
    • often cooked meat and maybe even a bit of fish or megalodon/kraken

notes on rare 15 minute megalodon spawn:

    • average meg spawn timer is 1h 20 mins (after login or after diving)
    • there is a small chance to get your meg a lot earlier (~15 mins for example)
    • personally had about 10 of them since season 9 (2023) - so they are very rare
    • all you have to do is stay away from islands or rocks, so it can spawn

    • played solo and duo hourglass on June 20, 21, 22 and 23

I do not enjoy hourglass mode that much, but fight nights made me play a few matches anyway.
Interesting to see how different all those matches can play out.
The difference between solo and duo sloop is also huge.
Solo can be fun, when both players are on equal skill levels.
Bonus points when you meet nice players, who enjoy the fight no matter if they win or lose.

  • June 26th:
Today I have encountered a ship with Rare sails, for the first time.
We met them during duo sloop hourglass.

    RareSails victory

The fight was really fun and with a lot of fairplay. Thanks guys!

We managed to sink them in the end, but it got really close.
It was nice meeting you @Emilehh-x and (I did not see the other name sadly).
(let me know if you see this) ^^

I got really excited when the fight started and I saw the sails. Never seen them ingame before today.
I will remember this moment and the awesome fight. Cheers!

  • @drfauli
    Haha, GGs dude!
Other player was my partner, @davcpas1234 :)

  • Thanks for the response @Emilehh-x and thanks for the great fight @davcpas1234 !
I am glad you took the time to visit this forum post. Cheers!

I am curious, so may I ask:

    • How did you guys manage to sail around with Rare sails?
    • Was it a guild ship or are any of you working with/for Rare?
    • Is there anything else you want to share about that ship, that would be good to know?
  • @drfauli
As you quite rightly said, they're staff sails- I work for Rare haha.

If you ever see a ship with staff sails, a staff member will be on board. They're locked to be used by us and us only, if you load up a ship they are saved to as a non staff member they will be standard white sails.

It's just one of my ships, nothing else exciting :)

  • @emilehh-x alrighty, thanks for explaining!
I think it is quite awesome to meet devs playing their own game.
Did not expect to meet someone from the team in hourglass.
Quite a special moment for me. We really enjoyed that fight.

This topic and the fact that I still enjoy leaving those crates,
is actually quite a good way for me to motivate myself to play SoT more.
I have been enjoying it even more, knowing that someone might find a crate
at the start of their session - maybe even improving their day a little bit.

  • Spirit of Adventure
A story of a hidden reapers chest.

Today I was solo sloopin and had a reapers chest on my ship.
It is time to eat something, so I sail towards the reapers hideout.
While getting closer I see another sloop, they anchor and put up reapers emissary.
They keep waiting there. I know what they want.
I get close to the hideout and shoot myself out of the cannon,
while my solo sloop is sailing around in circles.
I investigate the island and find two pirates hiding as barrels inside the reapers tent.
    They attack!

I fight a bit with them and take a good look at them:
They both seem to be new players having just unlocked their first cool outfits.
@Fancheck1 (and I did not remember your buddies name; let me know if you see this)

Back on my ship I start heading towards plunder outpost
with the reapers emissary sloop about 2 mins behind me.

I already have a fun plan in my head and I am glad to see they are chasing me! hah!

I sail past plunder outpost and jump off with the reapers chest,
swimming over to the island and head directly into the tavern.

Then I drop the chest, play some music and walk down some stairs.
I drop the chest in a corner behind the wooden walkway
and then I enter the secret pathway, loading screen, back through, loading screen, run to my mermaid.
(doing it this way would make sure the stairs are closed, when they arrive)

And now I zoom in on the map, grab me something to eat from the kitchen,
since I am still hungry and have a great movie to watch, happening on my ships map!

    • 30 minutes have gone by fast, the reapers emissary sloop is still anchored next to plunder outpost
    • at 35 mins another sloop wants to sell at plunder outpost and attacks them
    • they fight back and distance themselves from the outpost
    • a third sloop is getting close to the outpost and anchors at the dock
    • I sail over there and see a solo slooper head into the tavern
    • 1 min later and he comes out with my reapers chest, well played sir! @vlados4397
    • the chest was already open tho and as he drops it on his ship, my skellies attack him! hah!
    • he is fighting the skellies, while I decide to board and grab the chest
    • the poor guy then died to my skellies, right when I have the chest in my hands!
    • I jump of, just moments after he died and bring the chest to my ship
    • I then head towards the reapers hideout and sell the chest 63 minutes after hiding it

This was pure Spirit of Adventure and I had a lot of fun.
I wonder how many holes they tried to dig at the location of the marker. ^^

fun fact: my ships name is also Spirit of Adventure!
cheers guys, thanks for entertaining me today! Well played!

  • ... and here are a few images of this adventure:
