Art of Trickster gives you a "Keg key" you have to sail across the map in order to finish it. Dug mine up, then the explosions occur all over the place, and I was killed. Keg exploded. Tall Tale completely ended with no checkpoints, do not pass go, do not collect 100 dollars. Came out from the ferry to my Captains table blank with no check points. Gotta love it!
Art of Trickster Tall Tale is broken
Intesting because some say the keg doesn't explode, some do. Regardless, I should have been given the check point. Other's have commented they've lost the keg and reverted to a check point. That was never an option for me, and if "failing" an entire tall tale which takes hours to complete over a keg that can explode to anything that you must traverse across the map with, is bad game design - period. These Tales take a long time to complete and save points are apparently useless.
@p3wpants It takes like 20 minutes to get to the keg step. The keg exploding is intentional. If you need help, just ask.
@p3wpants Hey Pirate ! The lore part of that Tall Tale " Art of the Trickster " is all about traps and puzzles. Not getting the check point is unfortunate maybe check this post out and try what this user did ?

@sa1tynutz I don't think you understand what I posted. I had a checkpoint that did not work once the keg exploded - the entire tall tale ended. Bad game design. Anything can happen to cause a keg to explode - especially when forced to traverse the map with it - Skeleton ship spawns, Megaladon spawns, lightning, etc etc. The tall tale is just a plain pain in the butt and frustrating. I haven't met a single person who has said they've enjoyed Art of the Trickster. Sure, make us go back to the checkpoint, but don't make us redo the entire Tall Tale.
I think you're getting overly frustrated with this Tall Tale. I gave a suggestion to help you, linking sources to try to assist you, while acknowledging you lost your checkpoint. I enjoy all the Tall Tales, hence why I do them.
If you're simply doing it for enjoyment and you're not enjoying it, skip it. There are no locks on Tall Tales order anymore. If you're grinding for CG, you'll just have to navigate better or follow the link. Sometimes the keg explodes, sometimes it doesn't. If you got unlucky with a bug that's unfortunate as stated before, if you believe the " challenge " of keeping the keg alive is bad game design, then that's your weird opinion.
I agree that you should get a checkpoint that you deserve, if you progressed that far, but in an unlucky fashion you did not. So I recommend taking it on the chin and just moving on, it's a live service game that usually develops bugs after every update. I would just redo the Tall Tale, it really shouldn't take hours unless it's your first ever run.
Watch ConCon or any other platformer who you enjoy. I've recently seen a lot of posts claiming " broken " Tall Tales, but a lot of time it comes from player error or in rare cases a bug.

If you fail the tall tale, you don't automatically go back to the last checkpoint. You have to vote on the checkpoint from the quest table. If you navigate to the tall tale on the quest table, and have a checkpoint, you should have the option to restart the tall tale, or continue from the last checkpoint.
I've completed it five times and haven't lost the keg yet. As soon as you get to the surface with it, RUN. The explosions are part of the trap.
If you fail a Tall Tale, you don't immediately start over from the checkpoint; you have to vote it back up again at the voyage table as GaudierPuppy866 mentioned. Occasionally checkpoints DO get a little bugged and fail to pop here and there; if this has happened to you I'm sorry to hear that but it's an outlier and not the standard.
@thegrimpreacher So you acknowledge that there may be a bug but because it's an outlier it should be ignored? I too, completed the Tall Tale five times, it isn't something special to gloat about my man. The entire point is the keg portion should be a checkpoint, and it wasn't. It's a checkpoint for some, and not others. That's an issue if you ask me.
Wasn't gloating, my man . Simply pointing out that losing the keg during the Tale is entirely avoidable if you know what you're doing and it isn't a glitch or a bug if you do lose it.
Didn't say not getting a checkpoint should be ignored, either. You get a bug that prevented you from getting the checkpoint on a run through a Tall Tale that you failed then report it to Rare. That's how these things work. Doesn't change the fact that your situation is an outlier and not the norm, though.
For you or anyone else curious as to why the previous checkpoint ends right before the keg is found and the next one after you find the stone, it's to prevent dillhole players from keeping that specific checkpoint and repeatedly dropping it to spawn a keg on their ship on demand like most other tall tale equipment spawns (Gold Hoarder's coin, music box, Shroudbreaker stones, locket halves, etc). It's a balance thing since the keg can be used as a weapon.
@p3wpants im aware this is an old post but I'm new here, and yeah this mission is bs, I dunno who thought it was fun but it ain't. I'll skip this one cos I don't it again just got it to explode the second it comes out the ground.
