Please remove new cannon hit sound.

  • I was thrilled to find that cannon hit sounds were to be put on a separate audio slider from music. Unfortunately there is a new audio cue that plays in addition to the old musical trills. It sounds really bad, some people think it sounds too similar to the sandbag noise when you hit another player with a cannonball, and it is simply unnecessary. The old audio cues are not only sufficient player feedback, but they are much higher quality than this new sound. The old sound is more immersive and exciting, whereas the new one sounds cheap and unrealistic, almost as if there is no way you would be able to hear that sound on the enemy ship from medium to long distances. The old sounds are satisfying and beautiful, especially when you hit a series of shots in succession and the musical notes progress over and over. Please remove the new sounds or at least allow us to turn them off. Sea of Thieves has such awesome audio design and this sound doesn't fit, doesn't sound good, and is completely unnecessary because of the far superior sounds we already had.

    It's pretty obvious... Nothing to do with the music tones, they're still there but are still attached to the music slider I believe. The new sound is more like... a mouse click or something? It just sounds like the cannon vs player "sandbag" kill sound, as stated in the post.

    I can't find any clips of the new sound on its own, but it's pretty noticeable from these couple of seconds of this video, where Hitbo even directly points out he can hear the shots hitting now.

  • Ya'll wanted a separate sound from the music and now you got it. You know that saying be careful what you wish for?

    The old cannonball noise is an musical cue, that is why it was affected by the music slider.

    In order for them to separate that from the music slider, they had to create a new noise.

    That's the noise you are now stuck with.

    Apparently it cuts out the music when you lands hits too fast.

  • I also didn't care for the new sound at first. I was in complete agreement with the OP.

    But one of my crewmates likes it. He thinks it's clearer than just the old music cue. As @PersonalC0ffee notes above, it can give more accurate feedback during rapid cannonfire.

    I think we need to give it a chance, and we might even grow to appreciate it.

    It seems the new rule of thumb is: Getting a hit on either a ship OR a pirate now makes a jingle sound.

    Jingle + music = hit on ship
    Jingle + ghostly sound = hit/kill on enemy pirate

  • Literally got in combat today and I have both enabled. I can definitely tell the difference between a bag and a standard hit even with the new noise playing.

    I think no changes are necessary.
