The Hourglass of Wait

  • I felt like hitting the hourglass so I could lose at some PvP tonight! 1-2 minute wait, so I shouldn't have to sail for too long.

1.5 HOURS LATER, I sell off my empty hourglass in frustration without having seen a single battle. Sure, 1-2 minutes may be the optimistic end, but 1-2 HOURS? Seriously? How does this even happen? I wish it was the first time, but it isn't. I've had 1+ hour waits before! Sure, I could dive, but I had a good ping on this server and I didn't want to see it double after waiting underwater for 15 minutes. At least I can do something else and gather some random loot if I'm waiting for an enemy ship to surface nearby. The only one that did was a skelly sloop. At that point I would've been happy to see some sweaty whizz ghost surface and complete wreck me in no time flat.

  • yeah some people are having a rough time still with wait times

I saw a few people sit on a brig for 2 hours without a fight

content has low activity but that seems extreme even with the stamps not being worked out yet

  • Where are you playing from?

I play from UK and never had to wait longer than 5 minutes (probably never even came to that, usually 1-2mins) Never tried a galleon tho

  • If you actually want the battle, you need to click again on the battle map and dive under the waves. This kind of matchmaking has priority over just 'defending' and is more likely to place you in 'mirror' matchups.

I also have a theory, that you cannot be invaded when the server is 'full'. I think it's 15 people max per server. AI just can't handle this many ships and individual players.
It is just my theory, but whenever I see many ships I get invaded VERY rarely (but always when about to sell the HG xD).

I read somewhere that they might be a "6th" slot reserved for invading ships. Can't remember where.

It is "official" ? Was it pubicly said or is it just speculation ?

    Some transparency could really help

It will overfill a server temporarily. Also the max is 16 players but it prioritizes 5 ships.

  • Defenders are given a number of advantages so naturally the sweats prefer defending and it's hard to find a match on the defense.

  • I've been PvPing since UO was released and to be honest I thought this feature was doomed to fail.

The base idea that you wait in a matchmaking Queue to get an Open World PvP fight is fail. The industry expectation is "matchmaking" results in a matched fight. This just doesn't.

The "fix" for Open World Fights, making the Defender have different rules than the Attacker, flies in the face of fair play, which is the CORE EXPECTATION of matchmaking.

The rewards system, playing 100s of matches for the first reward is fail. There should have been smaller rewards leading up to bigger rewards.

The end reward is not worth 100s of hours, a costume, really? After that effort I would expect a special ship or something of that value.

The need to keep getting supplies is also fail, getting supplies is a chore, so much so that if I only have an hour to play, I play something else.

Some games just are not suited to arena/matchmaking style play.
