Hi!
As a Patriot and part of a crew, I think adding National Flags and Custom flags (approved by staff through forums of course) would be pretty cool. The current flags are kinda plain, and some flags that can represent who you are would be pretty cool.

Suggestion - Custom & National Flags.
They could make them a (cheaper) purchasable item, so you only have to search through at the point of purchase, not in the mast-head box.
Or even just have a box of free flags lying in the tavern, that people could rummage through and take what they want.
Absolutely agree! National flags should be added! But only from nations from 1702 when the game is set!
As an Aussie, I thought "Hey! But that will mean I cannot fly our flag." Then, I realised that Americans could not fly the Stars and Stripes, either. Even the British Union Jack would lack the diagonal red cross of St Patrick.
So... that ain't going to happen.

Yup, and we (the Dutch) have like 4 or 5 variations that are historicaly important to us.

@wrongerfern1000 National flags, yes! Custom flags, not so much. Maybe an in game editor that would allow us to create flags from preset templates. Just thinking of keeping things within the art style of the game.

Or people intentionally flying specific flags to try and grief. Fear it may not end well.

The game world is supposed to be fictional, so I don't believe flags from specific nations would work. But more variety would certainly be welcome. I'd love the ability to create custom flags, selecting from a palette of colors, designs and symbols that preexist within the game. No potential for abuse, yet still offers a degree of customization.
You know, it would actually be kind of cool if you wanted to sail an English frigate, or a Spanish man of war, or the USS Constitution and hunt down pirates. Then, you could carry your national flag. It would even be cool to HANG those pirates you capture, especially the ones who p**s you off. lol. Flag customization would be very cool. I want my "Steade Bonnet" pirate flag. It's the coolest one!

Well, stated my opinion on that several times:
Game is a game and should not be a stage for anybody to spread his real life concerns.
Any flag from any real life nation, group etc. would lead to unwanted conflicts.Just look at soccer/football games. People kill eachother just because they are fans of different soccer/football clubs.
Can not happen in a game? Look at the reactions to the implementation of the rainbow flag! Look on the Anti-Amercian comments here in the forums, when the Ahoy-Chips campagne was launched in the USA only.It wouldn't take 5 minutes after any nation's flag is implemented until you read/hear the first insults with reference to the nationality.
Long story short: DON'T FEED THE TROLLS!
@arkhais despite me being the incarnation of discord, I'll give you this one due to our forum buddies wanting a more respectful school playground, so I'll delete my post and you should do the same before a mod does it for you.
@urihamrayne When i say model i was meaning textures (193 textures to put in game are not a light task, it take times.) Plus i got nothing against variety, i'd love to see more flags but not 193 flags. The flags selections would be a mess. We can talk on a forum and that's why we are here, dont insult me ever again or any other member here, we don't need that. Thx

Yes! The best way to personalize ships is to make it highly unlikely that two look exactly the same, and adding as many banners as possible is a good thing IMO.
Flooding the market with 193 flags would certainly alleviate Rare of most of the accusations that they aren't adding a lot of content, and would be a fair addition to all.
