Parlour Games!

  • Greetings to all Pirates, Buccaneers, Privateers and other seekers of fortune!

I come bearing a suggestion for feedback and constructive criticism from other players and hopefully an idea for a fun game feature for the developers to implement.

While it wouldn’t be the easiest undertaking to implement I firmly believe this idea has a place in the game in terms of fit for the game world and also economy balance. (The addition of a gold sink for players who have an abundance of wealth).

Notice we have many taverns in the world but their tables are empty! When ashore Pirates would often indulge in drinking, pleasures and gambling shenanigans! That’s why I’d like to propose a feature for the game of “Parlour Games!”
A set of tables in the tavern that would allow players to gamble with their gold in different games such as the obviously expected Blackjack, Poker and Liars Dice… Some additional games could be Sword Duels, Coin Drops, Fist Fighting tournaments, throwing knife darts and potentially many more!

How would it work in the logistics of the game?
Not for me to decide, ultimately that would be up to the devs, but I imagine it would be something like:
The tables in the tavern would work like voyage tables, allowing players to pick their game of choice, match maker to pair them with other players, teleport to “tavern server” where they would play the games.

    But why?
Earning excessive gold isn’t difficult and while buying cosmetics is cool, there are also only a finite amount of cosmetics to buy and I think it would be good to have more money sinks in the game, especially pirate themed ones.
It additionally fits the character narrative very well: Waking up in the tavern after a session of drinking and fun after last haul… So let’s fill the taverns with things to actually do there!

    TLDR?
Gambling and Party game tables at the taverns.

Until they can find some way to get around the Rating and other Regions ban on gambling in any way....

  • @burnbacon
It doesn’t necessarily need to be gambling of course, maybe simply “buying in” a spot at a table to play the games acting as a gold sink :)

That still 'gambling' Offer Gold for the outcome of either winning more or losing it all, its a Gambling.

I wouldn’t know the details of the law so I’m not trying to pretend to know them, you’re entirely correct that Rare would need to figure out the legal incorporations of any such side/mini games :)

  • I think it's important to distinguish between Parlor Games and Gambling. The players just need games to be added in general. A way to "win or lose." We can then choose to gamble with them with loot we've earned. Like stuff from our voyages before we turn in.

"Betting" our coin could be complicated but most of all it could keep us from the joy of tavern games. Honestly though, all we would need is the ability to fill empty chests with our coin and then we could do it that way.

  • @straw-hat-blake
Exactly, the details are not as important as the theme of the idea itself. :)

    “Tools, not rules”

  • Probably Rare can't or won't do it because it will change the rating.

Honestly though, all we would need is the ability to fill empty chests with our coin and then we could do it that way.

This will be used to move gold from one account to another.

  • Under the ESRB rating system, Simulated Gambling falls under the Teen Rating

  • @capt-kamoba we can have the games without any money being involved at all. gambling bad.

Or because of other laws; for instance, I can't even bet channel points on Twitch because of local laws, and those points you get from just having the channel open in a browser.

True enough, I just feel the game needs more gold sinks which is why I also suggested permanent sink blockades :)

  • @capt-kamoba i don't like gold sinks. not everyone who plays is a multi millionaire in game. Rare need to make a lot more cosmetics in game for us to spend gold on. where are all the good skins for the new knives and double pistol? there are only 3 for knives, and they are really lazily designed skins that are locked to in game shops. the only good skins for the knives are purchasable in the emporium. there are no gun cosmetics as yet but I'm sure there will be some in the emporium for real cash soon. yes I know its a live service game and Rare need money to keep the game going, and i often spend a little cash in the emporium. but the in game cosmetics seem to suffer at the expense of the emporium. no gold sinks. no over priced items. just meaningful content added to the game please Rare.
but i do agree that the long asked for card games and liars dice should be added to the game.

  • @qu1etone

Of course not everyone will agree on the opinion of gold sinks but what about the concept of parlour games? Without being a gold sink

  • @capt-kamoba i do agree that the long asked for card games and liars dice should be added to the game. 100%

  • Regulations of few EU countries would make it inacessable at best for few countries.

Look up how Bethesda had to regional lock up slot machines in Fallout 76 becouse of that.

  • At the very least, I'd love to see chess added to the taverns or even the ships! Would be fun to pass time waiting for other crew members to join once the ship is set up
