Stacking chest suggestion

  • While clipping chests into eachother is convenient and tidy, I think we can all agree that its simply unnatural. By changing chests from clipping into eachother to stacking on top of eachother we can have a more natural experience toward storage organization and pretty outrageous game play experiences. The potential of using chests as building blocks can add another level of fun to the game.

  • @boomtownboss An interesting idea, however, how do you propose the stacking from keeping one from seeing and dealing with holes in the ship and allow crew people to fix the ship. Additionally if they stack and can be used as building material that sounds like we would not move through them like we do now and the player would be blocked by them. This would hamper sailing, combat, and storage ability to a finite amount. Would grind the deck flow of the ship to zero imo. Unless I'm misunderstanding something from your proposal?

  • @ronin20 Yeh, unless you're on a galleon you would be stuffed, even then.. Imagine a sloop! Level 5 emissary hauls... Tripping over skulls..... Nah!

  • @ronin20 thats kind of what I'm going for. Since the chests would act as barriers you need to plan how you store your cargo so it stays out of your way. Storage would need planning and organization the way an old school rpg inventory would; or you know, actual cargo hauling.
Cargo hoarding would add that extra level of challenge. Do you hide the cargo below deck, where it may get in you way, or keep it above deck where everyone will see your stacks of chests but its out of your way?
Further mechanics can be higher value chests would have higher stacking strength and higher weight than lower value chests. So if you stack a captains chest on top of a castaway, the castaway chest would break and dissappear. Therefore youll also want to keep the expensive chests on the bottom.
I would also propose allowing pirates to carry stacks of 3 chests.

  • @boomtownboss So if it's on deck would a cannon shot knock your loot into the drink? Fall off when your ship leans over? Topple over creating a mess below deck so you cant get to anything down there?
