Creator Spotlight - Captain Falcore

To celebrate the release of the Creator Crew, we’ve asked some of our more seasoned creators to come up with tutorials on how to get started. We also have Creator Spotlight articles to go with them, and today we talk to the famed Captain Falcore. Whether it’s speculation, lore or Larry the chicken you’re interested in, he has you covered. Here's what the spectacular speculator had to say!

[Q]: What was your introduction to the world of games?

[A]: It all started with my first ever top-of-the-range gaming PC: the Commodore 64. With eight colours and 10 FPS my mind was blown by its outstanding performance, and with epic titles such as Pyjamarama and Impossible Mission, my life was forever changed.

[Q]: How did you become part of the Sea of Thieves community?

[A]: I’ve been a fan of pirates and pirate games all my life. I’ve also spent the majority of my life living in coastal towns, so as a kid I would always dream of being a captain of a vessel. I once worked on a fishing barge... it was underwhelming... so I’ll just stick to the virtual waves for now!

[Q]: How did creating content become your ‘thing’?

[A]: I’ve always had a fondness for creating things. I’m artistic by nature and creating entertaining videos is a great way to explore my creativity. And with a game as beautiful as Sea of Thieves you can’t go wrong!

[Q]: How do you decide what kind of content to create?

[A]: Mainly by keeping my hand on the pulse of the community. Keeping an eye on what people find interesting, or what they find confusing. And then filling in those blanks in the form of a video.

[Q]: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced while creating content?

[A]: Time. As well as content creating, I am a freelance graphic artist and a part-time streamer. There really aren’t enough hours in the day, but I struggle to make sure I can burn the candle at three ends, as it’s my hope to finally be a content creator/streamer as my full-time job.

[Q]: What different channels do you have?

[A]: As well as my YouTube channel, I also host Twitch livestreams three times a week.

[Q]: What’s been your most memorable Sea of Thieves moment so far?

[A]: This game breeds moments. I think if I had to choose one, it would have to be riding on a Megalodon’s back with a boom keg toward an enemy Sloop and jumping on board with it as the Megalodon chomped down on them. I don’t think I’ll ever experience anything like that again!

[Q]: What do you enjoy most about the game now, and what are you looking forward to in future?

[A]: The random nature of it, and how every play session is different. Never a dull moment. Oh, and Larry. I’m looking forward to extended player interaction, more lore, more Tall Tales. New Arena events and even more new and interesting ways (TM).

[Q]: What’s something you’re particularly proud of accomplishing in gaming?

[A]: My interaction with the Sea of Thieves community, both within the game itself and outside of it. Every single one of them are wonderful people and it’s an absolute pleasure interacting with them, and of course the development team too!

[Q]: How did you come up with your channel name?

[A]: *sings* Turn around... look at what you see-eeee-eeeee-eeeee!

[Q]: What advice would you give to a new content creator?

[A]: Never let numbers get you down. As long as the right person watches, it doesn't matter how many views/likes/subscribers you have. Keep going and remember that. Also, coffee.

[Q]: What’s one thing you would advise a content creator not to do?

[A]: Don't make long videos. As a new content creator you want to keep your videos short and sweet. You want to keep the viewer engaged and wanting more. Keep your videos short, and consistent. A channel that has four videos a week all under 10 minutes does far better than a channel with one video a week at 40+ minutes long. You can increase your video duration once you establish an audience.

[Q]: Could you give us one more random fact about yourself?

[A]: I sometimes get the first letters of things mixed up when talking. For example, I’d say “Can I have a curger and bhips please” and most of the time it’s hilarious. Just never ask me to order you a Bucks Fizz at the bar.
