  • Grog was a real drink - watered down rum, occasionally with some lime to prevent scurvy.

  • @peteloaf777
ya know that but was just wondering if its monkeyisland grog or real grog
me mean like the ingredents for monkey island grog is
"a screct mixture that contains one or more of the fallowing:
    Kerosene
    Propylene Glycol
    Artificial Sweeteners
    Sulfuric Acid
    Rum
    Acetone
    Battery Acid
    red dye number 2
    SCUMM
    Axle grease
    and/or pepperoni"

  • @monkeybee11

I don't know, but I'm gonna assume it's the same.

  • Seeing as Sea of Thieves attempts in its lore to resemble the real world as much as possible - in that one of the books actually goes so far as to explain the game’s healing and drinking mechanics as the results of the area’s magical properties, and the game itself goes so far as to explain the Sea of Thieves location’s existence in the real globe in relation to actual islands and the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle with the map in the beginning of the game - I would say it probably is made of what the historical drink is made of, not the fictional grog from the Monkey Island series, though it is probably meant to be a nice nod to those games.

But who knows, maybe they’ll let us pour out grog onto the bars of the brig to melt them and escape someday, as in The Secret of Monkey Island, and that would confirm a similar recipe, haha

  • some 1 in mixer chat yesterday as they was streaming the shores of gold said the recipe for sea of thives grog is public it came out with the gift package verion of SoT long a go or something and ive got to argue with this recipe apparntly its

    1 oz. lime juice
    1 oz brown sugar
    1oz dark rum
    4oz water

.....now.....heres my argument.....theres no brown sugar in SoT only fine white sugar as u can tell by the colour of the crate :)

edit: woops didt mean to pig ppl only ment to post a message XD

  • I did a little digging, and yeah, it’s legit! According to D42Striker, who has collected all textual information about the canonical world of the game out there, from sources both in-game and out of game alike, who has recorded the grog recipe in these very forums along with all of the other stuff he has found, the recipe was originally “given to a select group of people in a box of Sea of Thieves memorabilia at launch.” You can see that here: https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/67554/grog

Also, here is a video I found of a gaming channel making the drink, and they also make their own non-alcoholic alternative recipe, too, for those who are below the legal drinking age or choose not to drink: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fg0V4Yi6D_4

You can also search online for the recipe and pretty easily find images out there of the actual official recipe card that was distributed by Sea of Thieves itself.

So anyway, yeah, turns out that is likely the official, canonical ingredients of the grog from the game, and there are even official instructions for how to make it yourself in the real world. As for your argument about the color of the sugar, we never actually see the sugar itself in game, do we? Or either way, perhaps the grog isn’t made in the Sea of Thieves, but rather comes from outside. Alternatively, there could be crates of brown sugar, too, but we just never see them, because they’re all safely stored in tavern kitchens.
