Private servers and or a Passive Mode

  • Dear Sea of Thieves Developers,

I love the game, but it can be a pain to play at times because of the community. Now I don't mean to say everyone is bad. But 9 times out of 10, players I come across are violent and toxic without provocation. While I know some people enjoy PVP combat, I don't. I find it finicky at best and just luck at worst, with hours of progress in loot on the line.

What I would like to suggest is the inclusion of optional Private servers, or servers where PVP is disabled. I don't know how difficult that would be or costly to maintain extra specific servers for a fraction of the player base, so I have one other Idea.

Again this other Idea I have no clue how difficult it would be to implement. But if you can't do private servers, I would like to see something similar to the Passive mode in GTA5 in which you are in the same world (servers) as other players but they can't kill or affect you. Hopefully also protecting your loot as well.

Please consider implementing something like these soon because violent interactions with other players ruins the game experience for me 9 times out of 10 whenever I log on.

Perhaps you can turn your loot in after each island; this way you don't get looted by other pirates.

I do skull forts still to this day and when I am done loading my loot I go straight to turn that haul in because I know there are other pirates out there just like me who're perfectly able and willing to take it from me.

Piracy is part of this game and always will be; "Sea of Thieves" is spelled out in the title of the game.

Given that this game is about piracy, you should have the expectation of such activities in game are common and you can be on either end of that situation.

    Good day sir.

No passive modes or pve servers. Rare doesn't want those at all. They do want to make a progression free way to do private servers through! Also, to remove toxicity, just turn down the gamechat volume to 0, because the only way to be toxic is through the chat, and you can only grief your own crew.

    Dear Sea of Thieves Developers,

I love the game, but it can be a pain to play at times because of the community.

Then why buy a shared world multiplayer game where PvE and PvP is always happening together?

Now I don't mean to say everyone is bad. But 9 times out of 10, players I come across are violent and toxic without provocation.

I've been playing this game consistently for more than a year, and I would say encountering hostile players is a lot more rare than people say it is.

While I know some people enjoy PVP combat, I don't. I find it finicky at best and just luck at worst, with hours of progress in loot on the line.

    1. Well good news, the only thing that loot does for you is get you closer to buying that new jacket or shovel. There's really not much riding on it honestly.

    2. The game was represented as unpredictable PvP and PvE player encounters. If you aren't okay with PvP being ever present, then why did you buy Sea of Thieves? Rare do not need to accommodate you for this.

What I would like to suggest is the inclusion of optional Private servers, or servers where PVP is disabled. I don't know how difficult that would be or costly to maintain extra specific servers for a fraction of the player base, so I have one other Idea.

You're partly right, it would probably cost more than it's worth. Additionally, it would divide up the PvP and PvE focused players, and ruin the unpredictable nature of the current player pool.

The game's multiplayer structure is centered around the unpredictable friend or foe encounters, so why would they ruin that with a passive server?

Again this other Idea I have no clue how difficult it would be to implement. Again, this is not in the Sea of Thieves spirit. It would ruin what the game already is for those of us who enjoy it, only to please the folk who just don't get it in the first place.

Also, Sea of Thieves is nothing like GTAV. You can't just say "do this thing like this other game" because Sea of Thieves cannot be compared to other games at all. There are different things that make Sea of Thieves special, and it will not thrive on the same setup as other multiplayer games.

Please consider implementing something like these soon because violent interactions with other players ruins the game experience for me 9 times out of 10 whenever I log on.

Again, a gross over-exaggeration. It just doesn't happen that much.

EDIT: yup, just as we all expected... another one and done account.

  • Why make such hard work arguing with these identical posts day in day out. They’re all the same. People never really complain about being sunk, killed or even robbed. They complain about the time taken to secure some loot only to have all of that time/progress lost. Look guys, let’s not pretend that securing loot is anything short of tiresome. It really is a pain but one you’ll tolerate if you get to cash in. A simple (ish) mechanic could go a very long way to solving the issue. It may even result in some bumper hauls for PvPers. What if the XP value but not the gold value of any loot on board for greater than 60minutes was “banked”. You would still have to visit an outpost to complete the transaction. However, 100% of the value and XP is available to steal. Or maybe 50% of gold and XP value is banked. It doesn’t really matter. It’s simply a part payment for your participation and activity in the event that your robbed. Takes the sting out and doesn’t impact anyone else. It may encourage much larger and lucrative cargos.

Anyway, it’s kicking issues around results in solutions, not arguing with the OPs.

I need to sign off - it’s about a million degrees in here and I’m starting to smoulder. Phew!

  • Then at that point it’s not a pirates game.....

    It’s in the title
    Sea Of Thieves

Yes, lets copy GTA's passive mode. So by extension all world missions are removed while in passive, this translates to no doing voyages while you are in passive mode.

Have fun in the sailing simulator.

  • go play a different SINGLE PLAYER game then

  • @TitlingMango97

    • joined the forums a year ago and never posted a thing apart from now
    • have 0 playtime in sot on the account i posted all these gross exaggerations with
    • show a complete lack of understanding about the game that is being discussed
    • doesnt use search function to see that this horse has been beaten, killed, resurrected and then killed again alot of times.

Furthermore, rare themselve have stated npt willing to have pve gold grindin servers
