Ship despawning?

  • So me and 2 of my friends were doing an Ashen Athena's Voyage and we were at The Devil's Thirst when our ship suddenly just disappeared, our ship had no holes and was not stolen (my friend was deside it when it disappeared... I have no idea why this happened, is it supposed to do that or is it a bug? (Btw we had 300 wood, 150 canonballs so we were pretty mad...

  • @galaxyxvll It's been a while since I've seen that happen, but when it did, the ship was considered stuck and despawned. It happens if your ship is in very shallow water and you can hear it creak and moan. Make sure the ship has enough space and that no weird sounds are heard and you should be safe.

  • @bloodybil Thank you for your reply! That was what my friend also thought, it's a little weird because this has never happened to me even though I've been parked much longer in shallow water.

  • @galaxyxvll Yeah @BloodyBil is right. I've had it happen to me twice when parking my ship at a fort in between the tower and the fort itself, creaking and moaning all the time (untill it despawned) since then I'm cringing when I hear the ship creak just because I'm scared of it despawning.

  • @galaxyxvll probably your ship was with the anchor down on a shallow water? Did you heard wooden noises like it was touching something?

If so, your ship dispawn due to being stuck... That's one of the reasons why we never drop the anchor. If you let your anchor up and the ship is assuming stuck it eventually moves to a safe place.
If your anchor is down it cannot move and probably will dispawn if you take too long to get it out of there.

  • I do not fear the creaking and rubbing off islands etc. This glitch is pretty rare, I’ve only had it happen a couple of times. It has always happened while the sail was down, anchor up, boat pinned against the island. It happened at Crescent Isle and Molten Sands(and I was almost done getting fort loot on the boat at molten sands...).

I still prefer the method of pinning the boat against docks while cashing in at outposts, or pinning the boat against some fort islands like Crow’s Nest Fortress to load up fort loot.

This is why I never drop anchor too close to the shallows of an island.

When ever I stop my ship I always jump underwater to make sure the bottom of the ship isn't touching the ground under the water. The game has a feature that detects if the ship is stuck and will despawn it and put somewhere new as if it had sunk.

As long as there's space and ship is fully floating, this should not happen to you.
