Game mode for everyone.

  • Imo to make it fair for everyone the game needs a pve only server. A lot will hate on this might say it won’t be sea of “thieves” anymore. Pvpers get their arena. Normal server for mix of pvp and pve. How about for ppl that are new to game and might just want to learn how to sail, read x on map and non pvp? It is not fair for new players playing for hours then just end up losing their first loot & getting their ships sunk because the game happened to put them with players who just want to sink ships. Some ppl just want to get better at reading x maps, fish, etc.
** Pve = a peaceful server with no pvp but lower gold loot sounds fair since they are not playing the ”sea of thieves” aspect of the game.
**Pvp = with rewards only obtainable in arena
    **

    • list itemPvP & PvE (Normal) = should still be the main mode of the game with the most reward whatever player type they might be. Like a token for pvpers every time they kill a player or something and items only obtainable with such token. And perhaps more gold for ppl who can protect their loot in a sea full of thieves. Should increase the number of ships per server too to make reward type more valuable.

  • I think you should have bought a single player game instead.

    I upvote this.

I agree there should be private servers for new players, friends to group up on multiple ships, community events and for those who don't want pvp but any gold/rep should be for that single play session.

  • I've read suggestions for a "lower reward" PvE only server many, many times. Any idea that brings new players to the game is a good one (New Players = $$$). After all, Rare are already trying to do the same thing with Arena Mode.

Seeing as PvE is one of the most requested features on this Forum (and others) I believe that Rare should give it a chance. Technically it would be a far less complicated and expensive exercise than creating Arena Mode was. So why not try?

  • I love this idea as long as you can’t carry over gold, loot, cosmetics, or anything at all into the regular servers and is basically a secondary character.

Something I didn’t make clear. And definitely agreed with you here. My opinions of pve server is like a training mode for new players but with LIMITs.

Pirate code** article 6 “Respect new pirates and their voyage ahead” something that most players are in need of help with. It’s not so even if pro Players can just easily sink a ship full of new players who don’t even know how to angle their sails.

I’m not taking sides and there are boundaries.

Pve = training mode /non pvp.
BUT NO commendations, doubloons and (Xbox) achievements should be rewarded. No transferring of items and gold either.

Respect** the players who have earned this on normal servers. It is their pride to sail the seas with these cosmetics, showing they’ve been there done that while fighting against other players.
If new players want those things then unlock it just like everyone else did.
But if they just need to learn the game in peace then I think it’s fair to give them that option. Pvpers get to do more pvp with arena.
So why can’t we give new players some help??
IMO in the end it will help both normal, arena players and the whole community. For example we see lots of players who can’t even dig up easy x on arena map.
When new players feel like they are ready to sail the seas with “pirates” then let them join us and sail with the best looking ships. Otherwise they should be fine enjoying the game with a brown ship =)

  • Losses are the best teachers.

  • No. The way you learn to turn in often and look to the horizon often is not doing it and then it biting you. No.No.No.

  • Actually, I always say that Tom Clancy's The Division (both 1 and 2) has found the perfect formula for mixing single and multiplayer gaming, it's perfect imo, every game should mirror their mechanics. It's quite simple for Sea of Thieves, make everybody in the game ally by default, like an Order of Pirates, it would create a friendly aura in the game but still you can go rogue and do whatever a pirate does. Instead SoT makes us enemies by default and makes it impossible for single players to live their lives on their own. I'm lucky that I didn't have any problems doing the tall tales so far but it can be incredibly frustrating to spend an hour, an hour and a half doing the story and someone just steals the final item. Also, people attack you for no reason, they don't even know if you have something inside your ship. They just do it so. This game is incredible.

Sea of Thieves is not designed to have "PvE" servers. It goes against the idea of having different kinds of player motivations existing in one shared world. This is the very thing that makes Sea of Thieves so unique, and Rare needs to continue pursuing that concept.

They don't have to allow you to PvE without disturbance just because the game is "play how you want". "Play how you want" does not mean that every players' whim will be or even should be catered for. It means that you can play in the ways that you wish to, but you'll still be encountering others who play differently than you. That's what this game thrives on.

Also think about how PvE servers would be designed... How do you stop cannon fire, or gunpowder barrels, ramming other ships, etc... Trying to disable any of that is way too much effort and time for Rare to go through just to create a watered down version of the game for people who don't seem to even understand what Sea of Thieves is.

P.S. Private Servers is something Rare is interested in adding to the game for the purpose of large groups of friends being able to hold contests, and games and such. They said they don't like the idea of players using something like this for PvE farming, so I wouldn't get your hopes up for gold and rep to be available there.

    This x 1000.

It's a shame that for the majority of players asking for that feature, having access to such servers is not enough, they think they should simply have the same rewards and achievements as everyone else despite playing in a watered-down easy-mode risk-free version of the game. No concessions seems to be possible.

You described very well the perfect way to make this both fair and enjoyable to whoever chose whatever playstyle and server. Choices, compromises and incentives is the way to go in this situation

  • Sandbox "Tutorial" mode. Separate map. you can turn stuff in and it will tally the gold you've collected but it doesn't carry over to the main progress. It would be great to let young kids play on etc. Or to organize custom challenges like races or to practice clearing skull forts etc. But NO PROGRESS is saved.

This is the only way to make a PvE server fair. Otherwise it will be abused for farming rep/gold. It' should be a training ground only.
