Empower Pirate Legends

I disagree with @Goedecke-Michel on a lot of things, but he has hit it on the noggin. This would infact violate the 4th Tenant.

It wouldn't violate the Pirate Code. Article 4 only addresses fairness, respect and equal treatment among players. It has nothing to do with equality of level based skills abilities. (example: PL's can open the Athena's Legend cave and others can't. So PL's are already "superior" in their abilities to Non-PL's). Plus article 7 would still apply to PL's trolling their crews.

You have just given someone power over another, that can effect the outcome of the voyage. The 4th tenant explicitly states that every crew has a vote in the outcome of the voyage. Who goes into the brig can determine the outcome of a voyage. Who steers the ship and when ship stops, explicitly controls the voyage.

Theirs this undeserved Elitism that some Pirate Legends think they deserve. The amount of PL I've sunk demonstrates not all Legends are equal. I've even seen Legends who barely understanding sailing themselves. The title alone isn't proof enough to legitimize someone's Captaincy.

Pirate Legend or not, you are one person of a crew, with an equal standing and voting prowness as any other member. Admin-ship of determining who can control what is not equal standing.

@goedecke-michel But PL's already have better tools and special abilities. They can enter an exclusive area of the game and they can purchase and throw down Athena Missions.

No better tools. They can open a door. That's all about it.

When you got to Pirate Legend you got a new tool. It is a song that you can play that lets you into the Athena Cave where you can use your new power, the ability to buy Athena Missions.

Now I realise that these tools and abilities are not "huge". But they do set the precedent and destroy any "Equality" or "Elitist" based arguments. PL's are ELITE with additional powers already. I just would like to see a these slightly expanded.

It's not like I'm asking for a +5 vorpal sword. Just a little social experiment that I think would make the SoT a better place.

I respect that you don't agree. And that we will probably never find out. But I can try.

  • @viperishemu2992 haha yes I am proud of my name

  • @viperishemu2992
Access to an area to buy Athena voyages and PL cosmetics isn't comparable to Captaincy Adminship. The voyage itself requires a vote that each party member has equal standing in order to pass the voyage. You are essentially suggesting PL have the ability to subject their will over people who should be of equal standing. All the Athena Hideout is, is a physical representation of a menu rather then the chains covering the icon of the items they can purchase. Its quite far from a power, just a fancy way to make a menu cooler.

  • @bugaboo-bill hey bro :)

  • @viperishemu2992 That was a response to OP's suggestion for letting PLs take over the wheel if someone is already on it. I say that because most of the people i meet in this game are PL and a lot of them aren't very good. I personally don't think giving the ability to troll non-PLs is a good idea. It would probably get abused more than actually helping. Those are just my opinion though.

  • @viperishemu2992
Hey don't sweat it, we'll have Captaincy soon™; kappa

  • Captaincy update (whenever we see it) would hopefully address this. Allowing a captain to name their ship and have veto power on the helm or any other control on the ship. Captaincy I would hope would be locked behind pirate legend as it only makes sense that you have to put in the work to EARN the ability to name your own ship. Would also be nice to have a vote kick option just for the captain, but also a chance for mutiny to displace the current captain (unanimous vote from crew)

There's a lot they could do with it but the locking the capstan bit seems like it's too OP.

I disagree with @Goedecke-Michel on a lot of things...

    Sad. 😉

  • @m1sterpunch
"I choose to mutiny against my captain!"
Becomes captain, takes wheel of sloop.

Um, yeah... Unanimous vote still doesn't work for the little guys.

    "New and interesting ways...." haha

  • Overall a good discussion and im still on the fence tbh.

I think things like this would be better earned by having player behavior be a factor more than time spent getting to legend, though having that be a prerequisite isnt a bad idea before ships could gain privileges with the use of factions, for a navy, who protects pve merchant players, and with an expansion of the purpose of the hunters call and merchant alliance specifically and all their ingredients to allow opportunistic gameplay involving fluctuating prices and scarcities and surplus at different locations, and pirates as a 3rd faction, you could incentivize certain behaviors and decentivize others (like fully sinking ships) by attaching those actions under certain conditions to each faction and barring entry or ability to use the priviliges each faction has based on those actions. If a navy ship attacks a merchant they lose navy status and become another pirate faction ship and start following that rule set and lose navy priviliges like getting info from outposts about pvp activity etc.

Merchant ships could send out a parrot every so often calling navy ships to their aid.

Pirate ships could get a bonus for hoarding stolen loot or sinking navy ships while holding stolen loot.

Its a lot easier said than done im sure same as how its apparently super difficult to determine the sinker and the sinkee in arena with multiple ships involved (though i dont see why as they track points for each hit just fine and just need to add timed counters for the size of the holes and who hit each spot last and have the game do the math)

One thing i know for sure is that the first response who i cant tag his name is killing it with his posts. Hats off to him and his words.

  • @j-s-st-johnson thanks for that

  • @viperishemu2992 It's only now do I realize I never actually addressed your post. I'm not even going to take a side on it, because I agree with points from both sides. I agree that getting to Pirate Legend needs to have incentive and actually mean something, but I also agree that everyone is supposed to have an equal say in things, and that there's no realistic way to ensure that the power to lock a capstan or override control of a wheel would be left to the people who mean to help. I'm not pirate legend myself (only about halfway there) and while it's true that I'm in no rush or intense need to reach it due to the lackluster reward, it would be horribly annoying to be trying to navigate or work the ship while on a voyage, and have someone lock me off of ship control just because they're a pirate legend.
Ah, if only we could put power into the right hands... perhaps there could be some sort of "tutor" program you could sign up for, much like the insiders? You would have to prove that you are responsible, have a helpful nature and motive, and that you understand and follow the Pirate Code, and you would be granted a new title, and the all of the abilities you have suggested here, for the sole purpose of teaching those that are new.

I do enjoy the way you think however, and you seem to have a plethora of great ideas. I'd love to swap some with you sometime, maybe in a DM conversation? would be fun to hear what you'd like to see in the future for this game.
    Cheers.
