I am just a smidge away from
Hitting 5 million gold, and I have bought every cosmetic in the game (except legend cannons). There isn’t enough content to keep the economy in check and you are handing gold hand over fist lately to boost everyone. I hope you start adding some high price exclusive cosmetics soon.
Too much gold
@satanicnemesis I agree with you here matey.
I think an option to allow players to use their in game gold to purchase ship resources (cannons, Bananas, Planks etc..) would be a great addition.
@mrphilfy
Provides for unfair fights. I don’t want to sink a ship to have them respawn and be fully stocked up.@satanicnemesis Having too much gold doesn't tilt the game out of balance, but if you add in buying resources then it would.
As much as I would love to buy resources with my extra gold, I feel it is unfair to new players.
I'm at 5.6M with the cannons and have zero to buy. The royal sovereign wheel is why I'm not terribly worried. If they're bringing in wheels, cannons, and capstans for other ships we're talking ~150k a boat and I'm going to buy them all as well. I'd love to see a ferryman ship set that uses the dead unicorn above the door of the damned as a figurehead though. Maybe with the broken masts and full-on ghost appearance and whatnot & each piece coming in a 1M?
@satanicnemesis Personally I think they just need to scale back the value of all of the new stuff. A castaway chest often nets you less than 100g. Good thing I never have to see them anymore with all of the new stuff. Forts spawn every 5 minutes and I can get a 5k barrel, 4-5k bone dust (which totally outclass the stronghold chest and skull, two of the best items at the games release).

Maybe something like the following:
10 cannonballs = 1,000 gold
5 planks = 500 gold
5 bananas = 500 goldMaybe you could buy them in sets of 10, 20, 50? Idk.
Could really help for skelly ship defense as well! And I do ask this, if not supplies, what else could gold repeatedly be spent on other than voyages or cages for animals?
@darthmaxor1991 So far every update seems to be aimed towards new players. Hopefully the mega update everyone keeps using as a go-to isn't built around that type of strategy. The fact is some of us PL's who love the game are getting bored and moving on to something else. Give me something to spend my gold on please!!!
@satanicnemesis I do not know how to respond without sounding like a complete jerk.
I will just say that I wish I had your problem.
@SSDD247 sounds like you grinded the game away. Sorry bud. Lol. I get maybe 8-12 hrs a week of gameplay in (if I'm not working overtime) and I still got lots to do. I'm a PL as well, rank 8 just focusing on my commendations for everything and completing the DLC stuff. Been playing since day 1 release, primarily solo sloop a d now with a good crew. The game is only a year old and they released alot so if you got nothing to do then sounds like to me you got a little antsy and grinded it all away. Lots of people feel the same. Can't expect Devs to judge how much time you're gonna put into a game. Especially with people server hopping just to collect loot from crews that have completed skullforts or what will you.
@darthmaxor1991 Maybe you are right. At least it didn't seem like a grind to me. I really enjoyed the game. Great stress relief. I guess I just need something else to grind towards. Some expensive PL guns would be nice. Or how about the banjo? I would really like to get the banjo.
@cyberguardian77 A player who has just started will not have any chance. 10 cannonballs may seem like few, and the money may seem like a lot, but a player with lots of money wouldn't mind spending 10,000 on cannonballs to sink another player. There are players who don't mind spending the Fort Powder Keg to sink enemies, cause money for them is nothing.
@SSDD247 happens to the best of us dude and with a game as great as SoT it's not hard to go from a one-two voyage game to a twelve hr crawl with over 150,00-200,000k play lol I've done a couple and just watched my rep go up before I was PL. My buddy is trying to get PL before the 20th and I laugh because he went from rep 1 to like kid thirties and forties in 3 weeks. Has pretty much the same schedule as me lol

You are assuming that you are attacked immediately after loading in without having any time to stock on supplies every single time.
Anyway, I don’t care either way, it was just a thought. Do you have any suggestions for repeatedly spending $ on something in game?

It is a hypothesis, many players would spend their gold on supplies only to not waste time taking resources. A player in the fort sinks you, nothing prevents you from returning with 200 cannonballs and 100 wooden planks to retaliate a few minutes later. It would definitely unbalance the game.

New cosmetics, the game is based on this. I saw once in the forum the option to buy resource boxes (no resources), I believe that this way would not unbalance and could be an option. I would also like to see bets on games, or even on ship races, battles (arena). Pets or accessories for pets. There are many options that do not escape the horizontal progression proposed by the game.

Assuming that is true and you sink because they resupplied...what’s to stop you from doing the same? It basically would only escalate the rate that fights occur and change the meta I think. That’s also assuming both parties spawn at an outpost after they sunk (which as far as I know hasn’t happened to me, or at least not often. It’s usually a random island)
Also, that’s the problem with cosmetics as a long-term solution: it’s buy it once and you’re done. That’s why people are suggesting things that you could buy repeatedly.
I do agree with the resource cargo thing, but they would have to be ones you couldn’t sell, otherwise that would be 3 easy commendations to buy...

Also, don’t get me wrong: I like to buy cosmetics, it just isn’t a solution for that specific problem

If I'm a newbie, money. A novice player already has the disadvantage of knowledge, money can be an even bigger problem for him.

The problem is when these suggestions can unbalance the game, when they go against the proposal of horizontal progression of the game. I would love to have a galleon with 20 players under my command, I would love to be able to buy resources and go after any other player, to start a game with 500 cannonballs easily. I would love to buy ships, call friends and command a fleet of 5 galleons. But this game is not just mine, I'm not the only one who plays, we need to think about the difference between the player who started a week ago and the player who plays for 1 year or more.
I do agree with the resource cargo thing, but they would have to be ones you couldn’t sell, otherwise that would be 3 easy commendations to buy...
If there is a purchase limit, for example one box per session, it is not such a problem.
I've never been on board with purchasing supplies with gold. It gives experienced players a leg up over newer players who may have a more difficult choice to make with their limited amounts of gold.
I think what would really help with this is making more of the ship customizable. For instance, if we were to have the ability to customize the interior of the ship like the Captain's Quarters on a Galleon, then right there we would have more to spend gold on.
As they grow the game and potentially add other features and functions to the ship, they could make those pieces customizable too.
Overall adding more new sets to the game would help. But I think in the short term their best bet is to make more things customizable and then their art team can design newer sets as time goes on.
(P.S. Having that much gold means you probably don't feel as guilty sacrificing the 5k gold to use a Stronghold Barrel on a rival crew! ;D )
I've wondered about this. We know Rare aren't daft, they know the rate at which we're accruing gold and the items we've purchased....idk, I just wonder if eventually there might be a reason to need a lot of gold. Or else I could just be way off lol.

Didn't people ask for cosmetics that aren't "buy once and you're done"? Like ones that you lose if your ship sinks or when your pirate dies? I know I'd want those as soon as I bought the permanent cosmetics I want.
I think if they added a high cost cosmetic now and then it could drain gold pools. Imagine if added Pirate legend weapons that cost something like 5 mil a piece. Not only would I not have enough gold but I would be out grinding hard.
@CyberGuardian77 to bad we can't have like a gambling thing haha have like a pirate casino or something. Maybe have special cosmetics you could win or a fort key or something.
