Make Walk on PC a toggle or push to hold

  • With a controller, it is easy to walk, just push lightly on the analog stick. Not so on PC. The Walk button only activates if you start running first and, if you stop moving but keep the Walk key held down, then start moving, the walk is cancelled and you're running again. Please make it a toggle (or a hold, at the very least) on PC.

  • I have to down vote this do not make a walk or run toggle, pc control are set up just like every other pc game and mmo out there it is perfect, i think you just need to figure a better way out, You can bind keys and make key macros i have run bound to left shift and one of my mouse buttons, pc controls are very versatile and if you set them up to work for you there perfect

  • @algaram I didn’t mention the run (sprint) button - which is push to hold and works just fine as is. If the walk button worked that way, there would be no problem. When you hold the sprint key and let go of the W and press W again, you sprint - not so with the walk key.

Macros can get you Pythonbearded (if not banned) and a macro wouldn’t really work well with this anyway since it disengages the walk whenever you stop pressing direction without first pressingly another. Every single PC game I have ever played that had a walk button had it as either a toggle, push to hold, or an option to choose between either. If you can name a PC game where the walk button works like current SoT, please do.

This isn’t a keybind issue, it is a function issue.

  • @bran-the-ent Congratulations! You’re the first person to ever have this idea! No, actually, you’re not. This is a tired request.
It’s been covered ad nauseum in these forums, it’s a bad idea for all the reasons covered in the hundreds of threads on this topic that have been posted since launch.

  • @thefertiledaddy Ah, that’s some rather weak mockery right there. Well done, you. You get a silver star for effort... but, don’t hurt yourself, now. ;)

There is no downside to having the ability to make the walk button a push to hold or toggle. It’s simply a QoL improvement.

  • I don't use it very often, but if it doesn't work like the sprint key then it should.
