New area is way too difficult...

  • Maybe a bit hardcore area you have added there? You take such a beating going there from the vulcano's you wont actually come out with a profit. Me and my mates used 50 planks in a few minutes.

Is it just an area where you have elite players going? I think it is just silly. I dont see other people going there either for that matter. They only seem to be ramming eachother (since that is the new meta in pvp in this game)

And no do not come and tell me you solo those areas. Then you are either a liar or a cheater.

New area is way too poorly designed*...

    FTFY
I solo the area, but it's not because I want to. The increased loot value pretty much invalidates the normal area, and most importantly it's where everyone goes now(which is nice because it makes PvP easier to find, but also sucks because the DR volcanoes a********r.). You can definitely do the DR solo, but it will not be fun in the slightest. If you get killed by a rock on your ship your ship 100% will be sunk before you re-spawn, if the volcano erupts on the island you are on you HAVE to leave or at the very least your ship will sink(meaning anything you do on that island is pointless), and if your ship gets hit(and you survive) you will be locked in a 3-7 min cycle of bailing water and patching holes without being able to do ANYTHING else or your ship will sink(sometimes it will sink anyway if RNG hates you enough).

I did an Athena in the Devil's Roar BY MYSELF......and I am neither a liar or cheater, I assure you....

It just took a little patience and a bit of extra time - and it was a challenge, to be sure.... but I loved every minute of it.

  • you all solo this area?

omg then the RNG must really hate me because no matter how we tried we got rocks hitting us.

Yes ok I agree maybe it will be easier once you know all the game mechanics but still its not worth spending all the extra time just for 2x xp and loot. Not by a longshot.

Will give it another go then. Thanks for tips.

  • The big question is, if you don't like the hard area, why not just stick to the 75% rest of the map?
Some of us like the more challenging area, but that doesn't mean it's for everyone, and it also doesn't mean that it needs to change.
I find the rest of the map can get a little boring, but the DR always remains fun

  • @eelporridge because it's not hard. just poorly designed and unfair. I'm all for a challenge, but this DR just challenges our patience.

The ships sinks and now re-spawns in the forsaken area, so you don't have to drive the whole map to get back, much easier now. Just do missions, leave treasure on beach, drive back a few minutes. Before it was a nightmare, now much easier.

One question - can you buy the forsaken shore necklaces? (like in the promo adds) I bought all the gear last night, but didn't see this item.

  • Isn't it supposed to be difficult though?

  • @sgt-palooggoo It's supposed to be, but due to poor design choices it ended up being just tedious and unfair with no real challenge.

  • The problem and solution here is simple.

    • eliminate the illogical auto aim of the volcanoes
    • reduce the volcanic activity of these (and thus make it more unpredictable)
  • @quietrobot said in New area is way too difficult...:

    simple.

    You would think so... lol

  • @betsill 😄 The truth is that the new area must be nerfed

  • @quietrobot It doesn't need to be nerfed. It needs to be balanced. I love a good challenged, but aimbot volcanoes are not. They are unfair, unfun, and horrible game design.

  • @betsill Yeah, totally agree.

  • It’s not that difficult. If the island you need to get to is erupting, Park your ship far away and row in with your rowboat, or just wait until it stops, and sail in and complete your objective quickly. Always Park with your sails up and don’t put your anchor down. As soon as you feel an earthquake, run to your ship nd drop the sails and get out of there.

  • @mrg0m3r welcome to the devils roar my friend

  • @rockinpodunk in theory it could work but..

    1. The time to wait is eternal (5-7min) but then, when you get to the island, the eruption starts again.

    2. The distance at which you have to position the boat (so that a stone with auto aim does not kill you) is a lot.. so much is the distance that you are possibly within reach of another volcano.

  • @mrg0m3r It really isn’t. It actually makes doing voyages and getting gold/rep way too easy. And that’s all I’ll say about it.

  • I Solo this area every day. Cargo missions are still a pain but all voyages are definitely doable solo. Never drop anchor and point ship so its ready to autopilot out when you see black smoke from volcano. Drop sails dash below deck ready to repair if needed. Sometimes just fill rowboat with loot go to close island and let ship get sunk park rowboat on close island and pick up after you mermaid to new ship.

  • It is possible to solo the devil's roar it's just difficult. You want the Area to be easier get a galleon. Briggs and sloops cant take the abuse

The loot doesnt disappear, just let the ship sink and come back

  • The ONLY thing that should be nerfed is the time between eruptions. Just that. If you don't like the difficulty, then don't go there.

  • Ok I have clearly been away too long. You can have a rowboat with you at all times?

But it is fun reading all your replies. To me it seems area is way too hard for just the casual player but not really a challenge for the true pirate out there.

I think maybe if they tuned down the aiming on those vulcano's it would be better though.

Edit: what is the best way of dealing with all these different skeletons? I do not seem to have enough bananas it seems. Any good wiki's outside this forum?

And on a side note does the server lag to you lot? Using the sword seems to be sluggish at best to me. And I got a pretty fast computer.

  • @mrg0m3r

Ahoy there - here's a site with hints on each skeleton type, in the Forsaken Shores area, geysers are your friend and will put paid to most, if not all of them.

We also have a comprehensive Player Guides section which has some good reading material and can be sorted in various ways!

  • There are two important things you need to keep an eye out when entering Devil's Roar , keeping the distance with yer main ship from the volcano's , and the timing of the eruptions...i agree that the first time everyone get's a serious beating if you enter Devil's Roar for the first time...But a good boxer get's up and fights back again...After a while you will laugh with the volcano's ....Get a sloop and keep the main ship out of volcano reach...Keep one Friend at the ship as guard if other pirates would dare to ram or fire at you...You may need more than one approach to solve yer quest but the reward is bigger ...And no , this isn't an Elite area ,otherwise i wouldn't be able to roam it ...Practise a bit and you will see that you become more familiar with the times when a volcano starts to erupt ...The volcano always announces his eruptions too, by tremors ,geysers and stuff...Give it a few goes , learn to adapt and you will see that it isn't that hard .

  • @mrg0m3r for dealing with skellies I use the environment. Once it starts to erupt I lure them onto the geysers. Gets a insta kill on all skellies
