Megalodon should be nerfed

  • Am I the only one who is tired to hear/see when the megalodon is coming, because you can not really escape it if you’re out in the open. It would be great if you could escape it, just like the Kraken. Maybe if you just didn’t attack it, it would go away after some time instead of just attacking you after some time

  • To be fair, you do get about 5 minutes of sailing time before it attacks you unprovoked, normally more than enough time to navigate to shallower waters.
I have seen quite a few threads requesting the megalodon to become more rarer, which I can agree with.

  • @nicklas123807

Meg has different personnalities while some are quite aggressive, others won't do anything if you don't attack them. Also, Meg doesn't really like the waters around the islands or rock formation, try to sail towards an island next time to escape her ;)

  • I'll throw this out there, just in case you're unaware... unless you're looking for a fight, NEVER shoot Meg until she attacks you first, also hug coastlines to ditch her. She will often leave you alone without so much as a nibble. So in short, no please don't nerf her.

  • @bo05ter I'd still be good with a spawn rate nerf. Encountering her doesn't feel special. It's like "oh, here's my daily Meg encounter..."

  • @xcalypt0x Funny you say that, I haven't seen her in a few play sessions now...KNOCKS ON WOOD... LOL

  • @bo05ter lol I have seen her in 6 out of the last 6. Keeping that streak going xD

  • I have seen the Kraken in my last two out of three sessions. She's a fun change of pace, I missed her. LOL

  • I am well aware that the Meg has different personalities, I just think it spawns way to much. And I don’t think it should be nerfed a lot, maybe just expand the escape time, because sometimes my friends and I sail out in the open where there’s no cliff or land nearby. And in the last few days we have just encountered the Meg over and over.

In over a week since I have started playing, I am yet to see the Kraken.
I remember the first time I saw the Megalodon it was super exciting, like such a nerve wracking rush, giant sea monster circling us. Then I saw it the next day, and had a similar feeling. By the 5th day of seeing it in a row, I was like "Sup dawg?".

I honestly think the only problem is its rarity, it should be a rush/excitement/dread seeing it, but not very often.

  • @eelporridge I dunno my heart gets thumbing anytime I hear the DUN-DUN-DUN-DUN-DUN...Run get below deck! LOL

I wish I still got that, unfortunately its now an eye roll as I equip my wooden planks!

  • @eelporridge You gotta let the Meg flow through you, become one with your inner Jason Statham. Your zen place is Discovery's Channel's annual Shark week, only then will your emotional tie to the toothly SoT fish return.

  • One thing I've found works for avoiding the Megalodon when it rears its head is to head straight to the nearest island.
It doesn't like following ships in the shallows all too much.

It can appear again when you sail back out to open water, but there's always a chance it wont come back.

  • No offense, but... Is this for real? You just keep sailing and shoot him with your pistol. Even going solo he won’t take more than a bite out of you before you’re out of range. I find the Meg laughable nowadays - if anything buff it to make me actually change course.

interesting that you shoot at it at all. Are you aware that it starts to attack the more you shoot it? If you don't provoke it, you might find it takes a lot longer for it to attack. (At least that is what I have been told by other players, and it seems true that when players are shooting it, it starts biting sooner and more frequently)

  • The only real issue with meg is when she bites you and you have devil's rum onboard. RIP profits. Shatters every bottle on the boat.

  • @eelporridge - target practice while being bored between destinations. Either that or drinking lol.

I don’t know what effect shooting it has in provoking it vs leaving it alone or which of the different types, but the thing is never a threat as far as I can tell, and probably only 1 in 5 “attacks” even leads to the ship getting bitten.

Was a fun summer movie. Would have been funny to make the Hungering Deep quest giver look like Jason Statham in a Sea of Thieves way. Once back during the Cursed Sails events it looked like the scene near the end of the movie under the surface diving for the loot because of her presence. Teeth everywhere!

The appearance of Meg can get way out of whack. Some nights we saw her about every 15 minutes. Every other island we passed she popped up behind us. Then we can sail several nights and not see her at all. She will sometimes attack first too, so holding cannon fire does not always make her play nice.

Her behavior can also be out of whack sometimes. One time back during Cursed Sails she must have really liked the taste of our ship's stern. She took a bite out of us while we were dancing between two skeleton ships. I was at the helm. My first mate said do not turn around. So, of course I did. Meg was stuck on the back of our ship with her mouth in a constant chomping up and down motion over our stern and my head. She stayed that way latched on through several more rounds until she finally dropped off. Was crazy, but she was not attacking us anymore.

We have had a couple nights where she became a serious stalker. We sailed up to shallow waters to make her turn away. She would come back when we got on the other side of the island. She did this for many islands even though we stopped a quite a few times to dig up chests and bust some skeletons. She was definitely trolling us that night.

She should be rare. However, she needs a true purpose. Would like to see megalodon hunts again. At least have loot pop up with things she might have swallowed taking bites out of all us pirates.

  • @x-crowheart-x I didn't see it yet, I will catch it when it hits ondemand for shizzle!

  • @x-crowheart-x - it more or less spawns in a place for a time, so if you keep sailing by her range you’ll encounter her more.

  • A big help to all you people out there, once ya kill meg she takes a long time to come back. She’ll mess with another bloke if ya fend her off

  • @nicklas123807 SIR! THE MEGLODON IS MY PET GUYS AND GALS STOP BAD MOUTHING MY PET

  • @eelporridge JAWS IS COMING!!!!!!!!!

  • @xcalypt0x LOL SHES MY PET!!!!

  • @bo05ter I agree with you BO05TER

  • @skulliah because of shark bait cove where she lived before the hungering deep

  • It troubles me a little that Karen discriminates against sloops...

(I know I probably should be thankful, but I never see her because I always solo sloop.)

  • @starship42 IT BE THE MEG I BE TALKING ABOUT SIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @closinghare208 the OP wanted to escape her (Megan), like the Kraken (Karen)... he said. Well, I don't get to meet Karen. I feel left out. So there.

  • @starship42 I see

That's not what I've experienced...everytime I see Meg, we shoot with our pistols as much as we can, sometimes he runs then and most times he doesn't attack for 2-3 minutes...when hitting him with a cannonball he attacks earlier
In the week after THD he attacked us once and we killed him...after that we NEVER have been attacked by him...I find him useless now...he definitly should go nearer to the island until he goes away...it's a joke like that and far far away from being a thread

  • Just throw in a weary ball and hit her with it and she goes to sleep and you can continue unscathed.

  • @nicklas123807 There is a chance it won't attack you if you don't attack the megalodon. There's also a rumor that Merrick's Shanty could calm Megalodon down. He actually stopped bite attacks while we were singing the song. But whether the song or our smell made him turn away, only the sea knows.

  • @inboundbomb seriously? A wearyball works on Meg?
