Brigantines need to be fixed

  • These ships are the fastest in the game. Trust me, a sloop cannot outrun them. This wouldn't be a problem, if they didn't have three times the firepower of a sloop. I've lost hundreds of chests and skulls over this, and I think something needs to be done. This has really gotten on my nerves especially considering how hard sloops are in the new area.

  • @creeper1764 two times the fire power matey, not three! Two cannons =/= three*one cannon! A galleon has 4x the fire power and a brig has 2x the fire power. Plus a brig is not that great at surviving volcano fire compared to both sloop and galleon! You lucky sloops sink slower even when bombarded by hole causing fire storms. I will say the thing that needs to be done for you is pay attention when a brig is as close as two islands away.

  • IMO ship speeds need to be normalized.
    YES, im not kidding.

Your funeral if you decide to play on a galleon, you have 3 other goons to help you out.

  • @vulgrim1911 that’s what having three friend are for XD. No need for randoms!

  • @creeper1764 yes they are due their low profile being able to cut trough the waves easier, still though fairly easy to outsail a brig with a sloop. Just play to their weaknesses as you have to when faced with a gally, you still have the way sharper turning circle compared to any of the ships

A brig will run in on a sloop very quickly, even if you use small turns and sail through 'difficult terrain'. Outrunning a brig is impossible (if there's a competent pirate on that brig). Outfighting them, maybe. If your game doesn't lag as much as mine does.

  • @creeper1764 The only problem I have with the Brigentine (I might post this as well), is that they take a while to slow down when you dropped the anchor. At times you can be a good distance away from an island and drop the anchor, only got the Brig is continue moved towards the island, may cause damage, and finally slow down.

  • @ottersteeth go into the wind, at least then everyone slows down and nobody is gaining ground quickly, get up close and personal with rocks and maybe even use anchor turns.

Just some examples of what you can do better/quicker with a sloo

  • @callmebackdraft The problem I had with anchorturns is that they sailed on for a little longer and hit me with a CC before doing an anchor turn too. I probably timed it poorly (I'm not very good at ship v ship PvP). Still, the speed difference is massive.

I once had to free a brig that was trapped behind a pier. ('t was another crew's brig but they wanted to go to a skull fort and we were allied so I offered.) They took my sloop. With 3 people.
I first had to wait for the brig to back out of the pier (which was as long as the brig) and then turn 270 degrees around to the skull fort. My sloop had a massive headstart. The fort wasn't too far away but still I arrived at the fort WAY earlier than my sloop. And they were with 3 people manning the sloop while I was manning the brig alone.
The wind was very ideal. That was the brig's advantage.

  • If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Get yourself a brig. And a crew to sail with.

I find it hard to believe you have lost “hundreds” of chests and skulls to brig crews. If so, there must be more to this than just the differences in the boats.

  • @ottersteeth jep with full billows the brig is the fastest ship on the seas, against the wind the sloo has an advantage as it allways had.

Turning radius of a sloop is way smaller as well, lifting anchor is way faster on a sloop even solo.

Never anchor turn in such a way the ship immediately passes you do it just after you went behind some or in between some rocks

  • I don't think it needs to be fixed.
I mean, one time with a friend on a sloop we were being chased by 4 other players on a gally. A GALLY.
It's way faster than a Brig... If the wind condition is good !
So what did we do you may ask ? We just decided to go against the wind and it actually worked.
It was a slow chase but we managed to outrun them. Little by little, we gained terrain and they eventually gave up at some point.
When against the wind, the only advantage (in term of speed) they have is gone and the sloop, thanks to his lighten weight, is faster. Use that :)

  • Yea i guess the Brig is a little OP atm, i can outplay a Gally and sink them easy on my solo-Brig, as long as i got enough Cannonballs. Just circling the Gally under full Sails in a Cannon midrange distance and keep shooting them.

  • If a brigantine is giving chase, sail in a straight line, and drop some gunpowder barrels overboard - then watch and smile as the brigantine's speed and poor turning ability become it's downfall. MWAHAHAHA!!!
