    hello everybody, first i want to apologize for my english

    recently the new adventure sunken curse was release, i tell of that to my friends but nobody care about this, so we have a long discution about sea of thieves, and the most frequently word use is "the progression", i put a message on the last youtube video i will put here too:

    "sit on X thrones"
    "kill X barrel skeletons"
    "destroy X statues"

    sorry but that's was not events, that's was just challenges (boring challenges btw)

    i defend the game every times with my friends but now, i can't no more

    from now we (me and my friends) will launch our game only 1 time per trimester (for your "big" update)

    nothing that makes us want to invest in the game, no sense of progression, just the sense of losing our time

    sea of thieves need a pve mode because of course you doesn't want to unbalance the players,

    BUT we need to see our ship evolve, see our character be more and more powerful, see THE PROGRESSION, not just a number when i press start, not just cosmetics

    c'mon guys sea of thieves has so many potentiel, don't ruin everything

    i just want to see what the sea of thieves community thinks about this, leave a comment

    of course i know it's a lot of work but i'm sure we are not alone to think that about the game, i have soooo many things to tell about sea of thieves so many ideas (i'm sure you guys on rare are pretty talentuous but, for me sea of thieves can be a historical games that we still playing in 5 years

    Ahoy mate, and thanks for posting your feedback. I'd like to point you in the direction of this article as well as the video it contains where Mike Chapman explains the progression system and the reasons for it, within Sea of Thieves.

    Their approach can be summed up with the following -

    Although your reputation is your own, Rare reiterated that Sea of Thieves was designed from the ground up to allow people to play together. This means that players can share their quests with lower ranked players.

    "Nothing should come in between gamers playing together," said Rare.

    Personally I think this is a refreshing and very welcome approach, that there are no barriers between new and old players, no barriers between those who are time rich and those who have other commitments which might prevent them progressing. Content is open to all and nothing is locked off because of a number.

    Progression in Sea of Thieves is represented by your knowledge about the game, your personal skill and your team play and not by ever-improving stats like in an MMO.

    The fun thing about this kind of progression is that you can teach it to others. You can literally start playing with someone who never played Sea of Thieves before and "bring him up to speed" by explaining how the game works and how to do stuff.

    In contrast with your skill tree etc. based games, a new player will e.g. deal next to no damage and first has to go through hours and hours of levelling before he can play with someone who has progressed further in this kind of game.

    I'm not saying one system is better than the other, just don't demand the game to be changed into something else just because you're more familiar with those style of games.

    what i try to say and the good question is: "why i play sea of thieves?"

    personally when i play sea of thieves it's just to travel into the sea, with relaxation, i can stay 2 hours just navigate to differents island without take any quest

    but when my friends tell me: "i don't want to play sea of thieves, i losing my time" i understand too, because some people, want when he play a game want to be rewarded for this,

    for exemple (not the best but it's for the idea) destiny:

    want you do 10 times the exact same quest (like sea of thieves btw), you take pleasure to do this because you win loot, better stuff, for your character progress

    on sea of thieves when you take 3 gold quest (forget the name exact), ok it's 3 differentes island, but the result is the same, gold that's all... gold for bought cosmetics

    but when you have your favorite cosmetics, what can we do with our gold? buy more cosmetics (that we never use?)

    that's the problem for some peoples

    another example, recently i have playing two shoot them up (assault android cactus and sky force)

    the first (assault cactus) have zero replayability, cause you have 5 or 6 differents character ok but with no progression, no interest to replay the game

    the second (sky force) you have only 1 plane, only 10 differentes missions, but you can upgrade your plane, your guns, your missiles...

    the result? 4 hours for assault cactus and uninstalled, and more then 1 week on sky force and still on my hard drive

    what i try to tell is even if you have little content, if you exploit it well the game is great

    here peoples (everywhere not just on my friends list, look at twitch, mixer...)
    lauch the game only for big update, not every day, that's sad

    I'm sorry to hear (read) about your disappointment with the game. I can totally understand that to some people a lack of progresion is impairing fun.
    A lot of us have been playing games with a progression system for so long that it's part of gaming culture.

    I myself believe Rare made the best choice for this game they could have ever made.

    Look at games like World of Warcraft, it's not just the smartest or most skilled player, it's the one with the best gear and often even the right class. I hate that, I've always wanted an equal playing field. This is also the reason why I initially loved Overwatch so much while I hated TF2, everyone in Overwatch is the same. A Mercy is a Mercy, at lvl 1 and still the same at lvl 900. (while a medic in Tf2 has a completely different skillset when you play longer and equip different gear)

    I love that sea of thieves has no linear progression. A new player can never say hey you won because of item X or Ability Y. It's all down to pure skill.
    My ship doesnt shoot harder turn faster nor does it take more damage, it's the same as yours and that makes every battle exciting rather then: "Oh look new players, they have a lvl 1 galleon let's kill them with our lvl 100 sloop in 1 shot"

    The thing I like most about this whole system is that it allows me to have fun from the first moment I set foot in the game. I'm not forced to grind x amount of levels and reach point Y before the gameplay unlocks, it's all unlocked from the moment you start.

    You have the full toolkit to have fun with. It's great and I hope I can persuade you to alter your perspective to this point in stead of comparing it to linear games and see this as a truely open world game that lets you decide what to do and how to do it. Because that is the power of this game.

    i am 100% agree with you
    That's why I think a mode dedicated to the pve would be a good idea

    after that when you take for exemple world of tanks (yes it's a free to play but...) when you play world of tanks, with a tank rank 4 versus tanks rank 6 or 7 if you have a light tank, the difference is big, but the game is still playing 10 years later

    i can understand that, but the problem is still here, "why playing sea of thieves when i can play another game and advanced on it?"

    that's a question frequently asking from my friends and i have no responses

    cause yes, when you start your game for the first time you have access to everything, but what about 2-3 month? we turning around like a fish

    personally i have zero problem with the game, but when you are alone on your ship it's difficult to destroy red statues from the last update for a recent example ^^

    @nini700 You should not let your own fun depend on your direct friends. I've got friends who like mostly RPG's and they too scoff at the lack of progression. I joined a Discord and got a really nice group of friends there that sail with me regularly.

    I play games to have fun at that moment in time. So crafting my own nerrative and having these adventures both on and below the waves is giving me so much pleasure.
    Having a leveling structure railroading me into tasks etc would destroy that. And sure it's not for everyone but that's not a bad thing.

    If you need a structure in your game that's on you. It's your choise to play the games you like. This game doesn't have those constraints so it's open to be one of the most open world games I've ever played.
