What we know about Future Events and Speculations!

    Hello fellow forum scavengers! Thank you for clicking on my first post. We shall be discussing the future of SOT and some speculations for the upcoming events.

    The Sunken Curse
    Confirmations: In between the Gunpowder Skeletons Event and Cursed Sails.
    Speculations: Believe it is dropping July 11th (After the Gunpowder Skeletons). Now what it could contain is an update about our friends, The Mermaids.

    Now these Mermaids could be guarding shipwrecks, skull forts, or maybe even barrels.

    Cursed Sails
    Confirmations: This update brings a new ship type called a Brigantine.

    You can see this in their E3 trailer at 1:22 and it is the ship at the top left. It has three sails and two masts. It was designed to be a 3 player ship. Their Executive Producer, Joe Neate, and their Design Director, Mike Chapman, confirm this new ship type and a new ai threat in their Content Plans video at 9:37. Now another main feature of the update includes the Cursed Skeleton Crew Ships (the ai threat).

    At 1:17 in their E3 video again, you can see the animation of it rising from out of the water and it fighting an enemy ship. Rare has also confirmed Cursed Cannonballs, a new weapon that you can get from the skeleton crews, these magical weapons will have different affects, whether affecting the ship or the crew when you land a shot.

    Speculations: This update could bring Pets, Face Paint, and even a new animal, Crabs. In this update thread for version 1.1.4, Rare gives us a glimpse at the bottom of the page of a cat standing on a cannonball crate and a new cage in the background.

    Now this cage may seem familiar thats because it is outside one of the taverns. Now remember that little crab in the E3 and Hungering Deep Trailers. Well the cage is similar to a crayfish cage, so that means we might be catching crabs for the merchant in the future! Now for the face paint, you can see a picture of a guy fighting two gunpowder barrel skeletons in the loading screen and he has this blue face paint on.

    Rare is giving us a tease at whats to come!

    Forsaken Shores
    Confirmations: Forsaken shores adds a place called the Devil’s Roar, which is a volcanic area. This update will also be introducing Rowboats and a new ai threat.
    Speculations: None

    I keep hearing about pet comingto SoT but my question is wat will they do will they help you in fightsor lead you to treasure or just kinda of mill around on your ship I want to know their mechanics

    I'm sure Cursed Sails will add customizable Cannons to ship customisation.

    I saw this on a loading screen after the most recent patch, possible hint to sunken curse?

    That would be a fun idea but Rare does not want people to have an unfair advantage. They don’t want this to be a pay to win game. But hopefully the pets have specal personalities like the parrots flying up to the crows nest and the cat batting at the water like there is fishes or something.

    @bodeapple it wouldnt be pay to win if pets are bought with money you can only earn in game in fact there are no micro transactions in SoT at all don’t know why ppl keeping saying something is pay to win if you earn enough money in game which isn’t all that hard you should get some advantage like a pet that helps you locate chests or find random items like bananas planks cannon balls tea spice sugar crates or even artifacts that are one islands all pets just have the same rate or each dose something different

    Pets will be cosmetic. Like pets in all other games.

    Cats don't do anything IRL besides bring dead animals to you and tea-bag your pillow when you're at work.

    I get what you mean, I am just saying Rare doesn’t want lower level people who just bought the game to have less of an advantage over other people.

    @bodeapple I like the writ up.. but I don't agree with your speculation on sunken curse.

    My thinking is it will be something much smaller in line with GP skellies.

    Like...

    Underwater chests.

    I think they will add more cursed chests to be found underwater like earlier builds in the game had.. it mighta been in beta or alpha.

    You probably have to find so many different chest randomly spawned underwater. They will probably have a "sunken" variety of each cursed chest that you have to turn in.

    I just hope the Co-op commendation isn't getting a sunken chest from another crew.

    It will be nice to have underwater chests spawn again cause I always liked looking for chests off short or in pools.. and I haven't seen them since.

    @bodeapple they kinda of all ready do more experienced players well always have an advantage over new players they know the games systems and how to use for example an experienced crew on a Sloop can take down a Galleon of new players with no problem we did just that the other night and it’s not like they new players would be barred from getting pets either they just gotta put in some work is all

    Yes, they do have an advantage. But Rare only wants a skill gap. So that it is fair in the sense that they can use the same weapons, ships, etc. For example, if Rare added a sail that made the boat go 5% faster. Yes, it wouldn't be that much faster. But it gives more of a disadvantage if that makes sense. In other words Rare wants a fair chance in a fight. Same weapon choices, same cannons (no upgrades), same max amount of supplies.

    @bodeapple it’s not an grade the way the animal look is a skin that you can chang but the type of pet you get has a different effect bird find bananas and the cat would find artifacts and a dog would find treasure but the skin would be different which is wat you buy you have access to all the pets but can only use one at a time per crew and who ever sets the pet it follows that person

    @bodeapple The special chests like the Grog, sorrow chests are "cursed" chests. It could mean those, or we could be getting a new style of "cursed" chest.
