Question about the removal of cosmetics

  • I haven't found an official answer.

Will the removed cosmetics be gone forever, or will they be reintroduced, and if so, those who owns those items, will they get their models "updated", or will they be exclusive for those who bought them prior to the removal? I'm kinda stressing out....

    Cheers!

I haven't heard too much on the subject but the vibe I got was they were taking them out and if you bought them then congrats you got yourself an exclusive item.

I haven't heard of them bringing them back. I am curious though because if they chose to do a dye system down the road then you would think it would be possible to get them through that then? I dunno. I think removing them was a bit of a rush job and it will create some hiccups down the road.

  • I was under the impression they are refunding gold spent on these items and completely removing them. Unsure as I cannot quickly find the source of that info.

Gone forever! Unless you bought them already.

  • I'm glad they listened and understood that duplicating items and recoloring a part of them doesn't constitute new content. That bodes well for future content.

    The info is here: https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/58464/sea-of-thieves-cosmetics-removal-may-22nd

They are removed from stores but if you bought them you keep them. I'm in the camp where I feel they may as well just left them there and added additional items with more variety in the future.

The refund you mention is for the difference in price on some of the bilge rat items which had their cost reduced.

Ah yeah I had a feeling I got my wires crossed there. Thanks for the clarification.

  • @oheck didn't they say at release they will add new CONTENT in 3 months after release? So they shouldn't be counted as content but rather color variations....:/
They should have reduced the price on them rather removing them entirely, oh wait! not entirely because they are limited now XD

and no the future content will just not release the identical items....they already did so and now we do not have full sets anymore, I don't think that should be the case in an cosmetic progression game -.- If they would just remake them ;)

They reacted and that is a good point for them....but couldn't they just reduce the prices of these items or say a coloring system will come? :)

  • Gone unless you bought them. Any item who's price has changed you will get refunded the difference

  • Well, that is probably something in the pipeline (recoloring cosmetics). We'll have to wait and see. I just like the fact that creating unique content for cosmetics is now part of their regular consideration when outputting items, versus just recoloring existing items.

Except, it didn't hurt anyone to leave it either.

What is with gamer's these days? Happy when they remove stuff, even if it was just recolors?

I am at a loss for words at this point with gamer's....Just at a loss....

  • @themustamissed doesn't hurt anyone to remove duplicate items either. They clearly saw and agreed with the issue regarding this. It's a positive move in their approach to new content that we will see inthe future.

While making sure its not always a recolor is good, Asking for the recolor to be removed is idiotic. It didn't hurt anyone to leave it as well. So what was your point? Removing content (even if it is just recolors) is about the dumbest thing to ask for. People like you scare me when it comes to gaming. Wanting a better cosmetic other than a recolor is fine, asking for said recolors to be removed? Dumb dumb dumb...

  • @oheck I agree it is somewhat a positive move that they are listening to the community....you count them as very similar outfits with just recolors right?

then please take a look at the preorder and the mercenary outfit....the coat, boots and hat are pretty much the same..just recolor...shouldn't they remove them as well when a recolor system would be coming? no because some paid money for them ;)

I mean if a recolor system is coming I guess it will only come as a paid service since then the preorder outfit could easily be made into the mercenary outfit and the other way around at least with the coats :/

  • Well, glad I had stockpiled close to 250,000, was able to get almost all o' the items they be removing. Try and put in a big session tonight an' see if I can get the last few.

No point in havin' gold if yer no gonna spend it :)

  • @awesomecoreusa I had the worst luck ever....just before they announced the removal, I spent my 180k on outfits....and noooo not the 8 special ones XD

  • @shikia-caeleaum that be mighty bad timing matey. Ye have my sympathy. Hopefully they roll them back out later when there be much more content an' people be less inclined to scream 'pallet swap'.

I think they should just have left them. I mean, they're not taking them out the game, cause those that bought them keep them, they're just taking them out the shops... an' creating an exclusive item for those lucky enough to have bought them. It be the Ebon Flintlock all o'er again...

  • @awesomecoreusa oh yes....:/ I would be all about releasing them in a redone :D and the player who got them now will get the new skin directly while the others can save for them :D

  • @shikia-caeleaum I just don't like the idea o' items bein' exclusive. In a game where cosmetics play such an important part. Now, makin' them a challenge to get, such as needin' to be level 50 wit' a faction, or a Legend, or whate'er else Rare bring in, sure. Make us work for our shiny belt buckles.

But times Mixer events, cookie codes that only be in the US, removing items but those that have them keep them... it be things like that.

Which means I should be against the Founders Sails too, but oddly I be okay wit' that. E'en though I don't have them.

  • @awesomecoreusa I am ok with limited stuff.....but it HAS to be a good reason! events yes sure! founder...yes! but indifference?! then remove them all and give the people money back not just like that and suddenly everyone wants them so you feel better....well now of course many are gonna buy them even though they did not want them, why not give them a CHOICE -.-
Edit: They should have at least reduced the prices for the people who really want them :'(

  • @shikia-caeleaum or just make them free an' refund people who bought them \o/ instant figurehead for new pirates.

  • @awesomecoreusa but then why remove them for indifference in the first place...i think they are not too sure how to cope with bad criticism about their "new outfits"...I mean almost everyone screams "content" "dye system" etc. and now some of them were really almost the same (thought I do not think so for the figureheads the swords though they are pretty similar :D )....they want to react to the community accordingly and they thought that was the b e s t thing....but why did they not just remove them fully or at least promise us they may come back as an event for a limited time! :/

  • @shikia-caeleaum Who knows by what logic they be operating.

    alt text

  • @awesomecoreusa I mean I can surely understand that people get mad about such "new content" outfits...(they were labeled so, so of course people would get mad) just tell them "Yes recolour just you wait were gonna light it real up with the new content drop!" everyone would have been okay with that....:D but to acknowledge that is another matter....there are already bad reviews about limited content....of course they had to do something against it, but did not realise that something like that is gonna make them look even more undecided what they want to do with their game and unsure how to proceed from now on....

people now even ask themselves if the update next week is even gonna work seeing how things are going now....and this game has such potential!!!! :)

I think the good that came out of it is they now know we don't want 500 items recolored. I agree honestly with both sides regarding the actual removal though. It's fine to stay and fine to remove. But I'd like a recoloring option for us. Paint / dye / whatever. More customization is great so removing these is bad in that sense but we shouldn't have 1 item per color. 1 item per style with a dye option is my personal preference. Best of both worlds. Free reign to customize and not have to buy the same item 100 times.

  • Hopefully they'll be re-added, with more meaningful changes from the originals.

  • @blam320 thats what I hope since they said the others can keep these...I mean they should know the community would be mad at not full name sets and not released new stuff (I mean from the new sets some cutlasses and figureheads were not released probably because they looked the same) :D

  • Really gonna have to get my grind in tonight. I thought I was SOL tomorrow and I was just going to be content having the Sea Dog cutlass and figureheads purchased. Now that I know I have extra time I've gotta really put some work in. I'm about 100,000 gold off of where I need to be to afford the last three figureheads and cutlasses...here's hoping...otherwise I guess my goal of being a completionist with this game is done...which would both be disappointing and relieving.

You mind showing me where I asked for them to be removed? Am I going to miss duplicate items? No, I am not. They were DUPLICATES. Let that sink in for a second..or however long you need. You lost nothing aside from some minuscule color change with a big price hike. The original is still in the shop. My point was that they recognized that duplicating items with just a slight color change is not enough to constitute a new piece of content. When they make items at higher price ranges and levels in the future they will be looking to make them more unique. THAT is my point. That will be better for cosmetic content that comes out over the next ten years.

You can listen to this here (start at 1:35)...and I guess let him know he's an idiot for removing those duplicates.
