While playing Sea of Thieves, my and my mates have come up with some ideas for ship types and this is one of them.
Custom Ships
As of now there is no real reason to grind for gold in the game except to get cosmetic items. If the rumour starts are true and Sea of Thieves is going to get micro transactions for cosmetic gear then there really is no point in the grind but this would remedy that. While keeping the Galleon and the Sloop in the game, a third ship type could be added that was a custom ship. Using gold, the player could buy different hull sizes starting at a rowboat size and building up to some largest size - larger than a galleon. With this would come custom sail types, masts, cannons, supply barrels, etc and could even include additional rooms you could add below deck like a store room for all your loot, or below deck cannons. Your ship cosmetics would apply to this ship type also. My mates and I just feel that this would be a viable way to justify the grind for gold system and add more customisation to the game — you could design your own ship! For single players this may prove more viable because they could have a small boat that was even easier to manoeuvre than the sloop that could serve their quest needs better if they weren’t looking to get in fights. Not to worry however, the galleon and sloop would still be necessary to grind up your gold reserves until you had built your dream boat.
