Sanctuary Outpost A place of Parley ?

  • I was thinking last night during a 4 galleon Battle over a Skull fort. Why can't we just all profit instead of a 3 hour cannon dual with a "fresh one coming in" every few minutes. So as a community we can go beyond and work, when convenient, to take a fort. Or work out a peace before hand. We need Rare to although increase the tavern there to a larger crowd size.

So I'm all for PvP in the open sea all fair in cannon and gunpowder barrels. But once inside Sanctuary Outpost waters. Peace, By the Pirates Code, must be honored. I'm not into altering the game mechanics, just respect for a moment of less stress.

This must be a player enforced, By the Pirates Code, and we all need to spread the word. meet your pirates in peace and talk about tales, Share a mug of....Swill (whales water more like it ), Form Crews. Show off Your newly painted ship, Your Flashy new duds, Challenge non crew to duels in middle of town, for all to cheer or laugh, mind the stray bullet...

I thing if We as a Pirate Code addendum unite we can have a 99% open free for all with a little 1% of peace. So What do you all think? Can we, By the Pirate code, come to an accord and have Sanctuary Outpost as a open and free place of Parley?

  • Parley ~ Says I!
I agree we all need a place to strut our stuff and show off our cannon monkeys. As an avid PvP / RPer (we are all playing pirate I support this. Even in MxO and other PvP oriented mmorpgs the PvP / RP communities usually met and established some guidelines amoungst ourselves to assist in making the game more fun for everyone save the dreaded pirate trolls.

    However
We may need some volunteer enforcers (and perhaps a discord channel for communication) as many of the pirates will not even have the decency or the "cannonBalls" to announce their true intentions. I love a good skirmish myself ... Some of these scallywag land lubber wannabes have no honor among thieves. Naturally I volunteer. weg

I am surprised there is not one safe place in game as it will make for selling much more store items when we can all get together to sometimes socialize.
mmorpg gamers. SoT is my new home so count Capin' Freejacx in on any community enriching activities.

... " The sea be ours, and by the powers, where we will we'll roam"
    Capin' Free

  • A way to do that is to implant gards in the outposts. were you could steal and kill ppl aniway, but the gards will atack and you cant sell the stealed stuff in that outpost. Sorry about the ingles but i think you get the point.

  • I would love more input from the SoT community on this idea. Please post opinions

  • I would like to see taverns be safe zones/community areas. Just inside them. I imagine it would be a mass sea of pirates throwing up all over eachother, would be awesome.

With regards to doing forts together, I hope Rare introduce a way to state your intentions - something that can easily be seen by another ship. Maybe a big white smoke flair or something, and if the other ship replies with the same signal you cautiously move in to negotiate. Maybe if row boats come into the game you could have the captain of each ship row out to meet in the middle for this! xD

  • We need a Parley Flag !! Free one ? A Symbol that can be turned on and off. Like a peace dove? Or a simple color?

  • At worst I know that if we like minded pirates want to band together at the very least we can hold a fort and use discord to have real time in game meetings. Each crew can send their Capin' and a 1st mate and have some protecting the majority.

I think we can sail together and as one wills be on call to help others in need. If a parley can be made and a deal be struck that serves us all.

  • Surely more folks have an idea or suggestion about this

  • Said this before there should be one large main port that is govened so to speak like "NASSAU" it was a pirate haven govened by pirates and ran by the pirate code' go out and get your'e booty and sell in NASSAU all pirates where welcome..

  • I like the idea of an outpost where it is all peace, but that probably won't happen quite yet. The game is too young, and as such, an etiquette has not been developed by the community. Over time, they will probably devise a location in which it will be a permanent combat free zone, but due to the game world, it will have to all be put into play by the honesty system.

  • There needs to be some kind of penalty for dying. Something to make players think twice before engaging. Right now there is very little risk in just harassing everybody on the server. I have yet to come across a boat that didn't immediately engage in battle. This being a "pirate" game, I'm not sure it make sense to add a whole bunch of rules, because those are just made to be broken right? But perhaps guards at a few outposts to enforce some laws might provide a few safe spots to at least meet others and trade in goods. Guards could be there to respond (and be very difficult to survive) but at least you would still have the opportunity to break the rules as pirates. Maybe you get less reward for using a guarded outpost to trade in hauls in exchange for the layer of protection. Also maybe some kind of bounty system similar to "The Division"? Having a bounty on pirates makes perfect sense to me. The players with a certain level of bounty could be pointed out with some kind of "visible from anywhere" marker in the sky, kind like the Cursed Fort Skull cloud.

  • I like pvp but me and my crew are hardly ever the aggressor' over the last couple of nights if we are on quests and see another galleon or sloop i tend to flash a lantern at them to say we mean no harm and say 6 out maybe 10 times we have just sailed right past each other' so there are people out there that play with some sense of morality/code however you want to put it' and if they take a shot we usualy end up sinking them' Don't get me wrong we have had our fair share of sinkings but we tend to come out on top most times.
We had a great battle tonight 3 galleons all going at each other and at the end of it' we sailed away while the other two sank to the depths' It's fights like this i love, not just harrassing people trying to steal their loot or griefing people.

I may have to give the flashing lantern a try. I solo a sloop and I can tell you now I do not attack anyone because I'll just lose. Ship PvP is fun, but I totally hate the hand to hand PvP. So I just tend to do my quests and leave folks be. I had to outrun a sloop the other day that chased me for roughly 20min before they broke and figured out I wasn't going to fight. I'm not against PvP but I just suck at it always have in no matter what game I play.

I like the idea of having the inn's be the sanctuary in the outposts. Although Sanctuary Outpost would be great as a whole island no PvP zone. But not sure how well a "pirate code" sort of thing would last long enough to grab hold. But it may.

    Thanks.

  • I like this idea. I tried checking out a fellow pirates peg leg yesterday and got nothing but lead in the face. He might have had a cool jacket, or a cool eye patch or a golden compass but I would have never known because I was too busy eating it.

The game boasts that character customization and showing off your "rank" or status via cool outfits is the best feeling ever but doesn't actually give us a chance to do it.

  • Yeah I've been caught by a blunderbuss or 10 by looking at another guys pirate. Hard to see the guy's look thru smoke noise and blood splatter.

  • @pailhead72 You will probably find it will calm down after this week when all the two week free gamepasses run out around wednesday' i think we wil lhave a better community after that.As alot of kids will have gotten the free gamepass and alot of pvpers will no doubt have tried before the buy option so i'm hoping we start seeing a better community and less griefing and shooting on site.

  • My usual crew and I would love to have a safe haven like this. Even in the most hardcore dedicated PVP-fest games we've played in, there's been a social area for Parley.

Not just a tavern, either - let it be a full island, governed by the code, including a ... short distance out from it. No weapons fire allowed in the area, ships that enter it can't be hijacked, treasure in it can only be picked up by the last crew to touch it before it entered the zone ... or maybe have it so that there's nowhere to sell to in that zone for whatever reason ... maybe the 'local leaders' take too much in 'tax', aye?

  • just a bump to get more input

  • Aye! Technically, we do have a safe zone.. The ferry of the damned!
I do like the idea, but I don't think it'll stick.

  • I like it. A great way to carouse versus kill. I never get to use the "befriend" option and this would help facilitate it versus dropping into random crews.

  • I like the idea of a new outpost that has no vendors and a staff of guards/ gunners and a large tavern.

Sort of like Nassau, as mentioned before, or perhaps have a 50% lower sales rate and a 100% markup on the quests?

There definitely needs to be a structured social space for planning and scheming.

And I think that this alone would move SoT great leaps and bounds towards the game Rare seems to want.

Crews could meet up and plan outings, or even duels, and this create the needed social interaction. It’d also mean you had to potentially face the guys you just betrayed at sea, or at least meet them first so it’s a bit tougher on your conscience to do so.

You could still PvP there to some degree - think duels and drunken brawls- but the consequences of theft and sinking ships would be dire, and it’d mean you would need to switch servers to use the social space again.

And perhaps a ship sunk at this outpost would respawn there as well.

Definitely need it to be a rowdy and still potentially dangerous place though.

  • I say keep it as it is, makes it more fun to have to be tactical selling loot and entering the outposts. One good idea I have heard on the forums, is make the taverns safe where you can enter with treasure chests or loot.

That would prevent other pirates using the tavern tactically when trying to sell loot.

At least then the tavern would become more lively!

  • The code are just guidelines.......
