So everything is purely cosmetic? I feel cheated.

  • The moment I learned that everything you save up gold to buy is just purely cosmetic, it sapped all of the joy out of the game for me.

Sure, the open world is beatiiful and the game mechanics are enjoyable, but it gets old fast with nothing to work toward.

If at the end of the day I can’t save up to buy a better ship to sail or a better gun / sword to use there isn’t much of point for me and I’m not alone in thinking this.

I don’t want to endlessly hunt for treasure if at the end of the day I only have a gold plated gun or a different flask to drink from; I want to feel that my pirate has better gear as a result of all the work I put in.

The trailer for the game convinced me and my father to preorder the game (he and I have be playing MMORPG’s together for nearly 20 years) and we both feel cheated there is nothing to work toward.

I am hopefully optimistic that something will change, but I’m not holding my breathe.

  • Sea of Thieves is not an MMO, so your previous experience with them is irrelevant. It seems you simply misunderstood what this game is about.

Sadly most modern games trade true skill and experience with a progression system that just rewards you for playing long enough and not for actually being any good at the game. But that's not Sea of Thieves, everybody has the same stats and equipment and can do the same things. Victory only depends on how good you and your team actually are.

  • @captdedbob Yes... sometimes i think like you.
But what append for the new players, if gun, for example, is better and better and better ? :(

  • They said there would be no progression like that, it was one of their main points about the game actually. So they did not "cheat" you. You simply made a misinformed purchase.

  • I seriously don't get it. I'm far from defending the game as it is now, but pure cosmetic progression (aka horizontal progression) was probably one of very few things Rare was clear and straight about since the very beginning. And one of the things that made me buying this game in the first place.

You probably didn't read what the game was about.

  • @happyalbe this is a lie, it wasn't always like that. The devs even talked about ship upgrades but that was scraped for the final game.

  • @sanni TRUE SKILL IN SoT! I've never heard a better joke.

Source please? I really missed that part. All i remember from the insider forum was a complete NO about vertical progression.

@sanni TRUE SKILL IN SoT! I've never heard a better joke.

If all players have low ping and play on the same platform and you ignore the currently broken ship respawn system then an encounter is purely determined by the teamplay and individual skill and strategy of each crew. There are no stat buffs, no better equipment, no better weapons, no dice rolls.

The other stuff like ping spikes on servers that triple your ping and make it impossible to hit anything, turn-around speed for xbox players, seriously just implement a button combination that rotates your character you 180° tbh, and the way too close respawn of ships I just consider bugs that need to be fixed but not essential gameplay flaws.

  • @sanni SoT has very low skill ceiling. Mostly because how basic the combat is.

Please don't say that, as it makes me feel bad. I am awful at PvP, so that must mean my skills are lower than shark p**p. xD

    LOL!!! My thoughts exactly. XD

  • Wow it's almost like you didn't actually bother to learn anything about the game before buying it. Also you don't even have the sense to post this in the right g*****n forum.

  • The skill ceiling is high enough for a casual game like Sea of Thieves where 90% of it's players don't even use the block of the cutlass.
They say never bring a knife to a gun fight but what if knifes could block bullets too. ;)

  • @myrm It's just point and click adventure mate.

Yet everybody complains about getting rekt in pvp, Its because they have no skill.

  • @kermitdafrog91 Still doesn't change the fact that there is low skill ceiling for combat.

  • that's just the genius of the game. no player is overpowered. your strength comes from your dkills at the mouse, keyboard or controller.

  • they made it very clear months before the game was released everything was cosmetic, if you did not do the research into what you where spending your cash on well thats not rares fault.

  • @tehlingstar2 i think the same..there was enough time to play beta and watch tests

  • @tehlingstar2 it is exactly like that

Ill belive that when I stop hearing plz pve servers & plz I'm getting rekt in pvp posts

  • @kermitdafrog91 So because solo player gets jumped by 4 people in outpost it means there is huge skill required for PvP? What are you smoking?
