Disturbing new trend and very I'm very worried

  • @si7van rating system would be ideal but I could see it being abused just like the Xbox one rating system is now

  • @crusader-zorro I'm not defending them, but two wrongs doesn't make a right. You could just leave and try again.

  • @darkened-victim Two rights don't make a wrong either :)

In all seriousness though, there should be a new addition or notification system to why someone is voting you in the brig. Like a flashing red text saying you will be put in the brig by majority of crew members because of "X"

  • @crusader-zorro Yes it is, how would you like it?

  • @spartan-lad said in Disturbing new trend and very I'm very worried:

Ive had this happen as well. Guy spawned in with no mic and dropped my precious Wilbur overboard while I was headed to an outpost...

a chest is one thing but chucking a pig in the water.... very uncool.

  • @katttruewalker this is the xbox live reporting system and I don't recall it effective. Will these reports ever get to Rare? I fell like the hammer ban should start hammering.

I was with a friend the other day. Had a pig down below. He was squealing like crazy. Was so annoying. I seem to remember I told him to go feed the pig. Instead, I heard a gunshot, and then silence. It was the saddest moment.

  • @bf37ironpirate
If you are on Xbox try using the looking for group page in the Xbox menu

  • S****y freetoplay players. It will be over soon.

  • @okerlund84 This is actually pretty awesome. :D

  • @bf37ironpirate Unfortunately, there are a lot of worthless people in the world; a lot of them play Sea of Thieves because pvp allows them to personify their contempt for other human beings. On this forum, these sociopaths are easy to pick out because they always have some pathetic excuse/defense that highlights their indifference toward the toxicity they create (usually involving humor or Appeal to Popularity). To make matters worse, Rare won't do anything about it because the game has been designed to appeal to schadenfreude and moderation would require resources and money.

I enjoy the game when I'm not being attacked without provocation or chased by roving bands of r*****s. It sucks to have to constantly avoid all these garbage players. I just wish Rare would have made the game single-player or local co-op with NPCs..

  • Personally, I think the brigade system is altogether wrong. Whomever coded this, let alone implemented it within game, should reconsider their decision and remove the "lock in brigade" system.

What this game desperately needs is an in-game FRIEND LIST wherein players can standby in the menu screen forming their party from friends they want to sail/game with.

I'm sorry but the random spawn crew thing is... well... akin to walking through a downtown area in most major U.S. cities... perilous just often enough to deter you from returning for a visit. Couple that with the ineffective (I call it draconian) brigade system and lack of in-game friends list... and well... it surely does deter people from playing this game.

Also, I'd like to see players rewarded with quest success at the moment they finish their quest (on the island they complete it upon). This prevents Galleons from vulching Schooners and prevents crews from camping Outposts/Outpost harbors. All in all, this game should and can be much better. I surely hope it develops into such.

I don't mind inviting off my Xbox friends list, its kind of the same thing and shows in game. Just add them on Xbox. When you get to the ship screen, just invite friends off Xbox and off you go with them. I don't think they need to waste resources to create an in-game list, when Xbox does it for them. Just my 2 cents. If you don't have an Xbox, it is on the Xbox App on the PC (I play on PC).

**And reading your post again, I come to realize I don't think you know you can invite friends from in-game. You already can, from the main screen, to form a party. Exactly what you are asking for.

  • @okerlund84

What I meant by "in-game friends list" is one accessible from the gameplay screen for example accessible by using the "ESC" key on the PC.

I don't play this game on Xbox (I'm on PC as are many of my RL friends). Thus, we don't have easy access to our Xbox app unless we run it tandem with the game. I don't do this for obvious reasons... I play on a wifi conn which is oftentimes potato. So I don't bog my connection rate down with superfluous apps/programs.

So yes, we PC users are aware our Xbox app can be run to keep tabs on friends and likewise enlist them to group.

  • I only did something similar once with a reason.

Joined a crew that were on its way to a fort and i helped them clearing it. Even taught them some basic stuff how to handle the different types of skeletons like using water for the goldskellies.
Once the boss was down one of that crew picked up the key and they all ran to the ship and started sailing away even i told them it works on other keeps but there wont be any loot, only were we killed the boss.
I did all of that simply by using quickcommands and textchat and no one ever complained.
Suddenly after i told them through chat severall times they miss out on loot worth 10.000g+ all three started yelling at me "start talking you dumf**" "you f**ing noob take mommys purse and buy a mic you sht" and many many other insulting trashtalk.
I only answered that moment "Stop it and be nice and mature, just like i´ve been all the time or you regret it".
They kept insulting me.... then i picked up the key while we were fullsails sailing the ozean and i jumped of the ship and started diving like crazy until i drowned.
Eventually they brigged me rammed the ship into an island and left the lobby since they couldn´t find the key anymore.
BTW... reported them all for that toxic behavior.

I guess they didn´t know i get out of the brig once they leave so i just repaired the ship before it sunk started sailing to an outpost to turn in the loot we already had on board.

A new crew joined and we 4 had a lot of fun together without using the mic even once... just quickcommands and textchat (even cleared out 2 more forts during the 2 hours we sailed together).

    tldr;
don´t be rude, toxic and don´t insult others or you regret it.... even get reported too with video evidence, since im recording all my sessions.

  • I'm with @CRUSADER-ZORRO on this one. If the first thing I hear upon entering a random crew is "vote to lock this [expletive] in the brig" rather than "Hey, we're waiting on someone, would you mind finding another game?", then to the depths with ya. Manners. It takes a whole 3 seconds.

Time is money. If you disrespectfully waste mine, expect the same.

  • Just play with friends, if you trust randos that's all on you. Either that or make friends, but they're not going to add a feature to vote kick someone because that'd be worse than the brig at least with the brig you're still in the game so you'll get money for whatever your crew does.

  • @darkened-victim yeah they should allow you to start, a 3 man ship, but still be able to invite a forth friend if he logs on. It would prevent this, i'm guilty of doing it, but you don't want too leave and make a new lobby as you loose all your supply's ect.

  • @oheuly I honestly don’t understand why you purchase the game if you didn’t want to get attacked for your treasure, or potential treasure (obviously you don’t always know what they have until you sunk or boarded them). I don’t purposely attack ships with no treasure, I try to guess if they are carrying some, but sometimes you guess wrong.

Rare always said nothing is yours until, its returned, that was always how the game was meant to be. They was very clear about this in the marketing of the game. Its why I purchased. If you don’t like this you purchased the wrong game I’m afraid.

  • @bf37ironpirate said in Disturbing new trend and very I'm very worried:

So this started happening just a couple days ago, but when I've been doing multi-crew ships (mostly my truste sloop) i have been getting alot of sabatours who will join mid voeyage with no mic and no will to communicate, then they just start blowing up explosive barrels and dumping loot overboard. I don't know if this is isolated but this will deffenitly discourage new players on the seas. im also now thinking of recording my voyages now to catch these guys. My deeper worrie is that the way this game us set up, it would be easy for a very small number of players to sabotage this game by ruining the matchmaking progress and pushing people away. sad thoughts in my book because I absolutely love this game.

It's not really a new trend, it has been around since even the red name tag days. That is why the brig is implemented the way it is, the disturbing new trend is how griefers have more avenues to grief than legitimate players have to enjoy the experience as intended

I purchased the game hoping I would encounter people like you, with reasonable mentality, people who collectively provide into a sort of ecosystem of enjoyment of the game. For example, the role-playing folks who talk like they imagine pirates would speak over the voice chat, that's not something I'm interested in, but it doesn't promote an environment that is ridiculously nihilistic. Spawn camping and aimbots are probably not something you agree with, but here we are with no moderation and a growing community of sheltered children and juvenile minds that not only don't have a problem with cheating or antisocial behavior, they'll actively defend it because they think the success of the game depends on something less important that its reputation.

I understand the challenge and the risk of carrying valuable cargo, that's intense and fun, but the problem is - the elements of the game that are not combat-based are eclipsed by the constant kill everyone mentality that is inadvertently promoted by everyone who doesn't understand the problem. No-one really has time to explore or find that there may be hidden secrets/easter-eggs on remote islands because there's a 95% chance a crew will roll up, sink your ship, and kill you if they spot you. My point is there is no ebb and flow of tranquility and hostility, it's just all hostility driven by idiots who lack the capacity to respect or appreciate anything that doesn't placate their ADHD. Why would Rare spend resources making unique areas or content (cough...) if they wanted the game to be something akin to BlackWake?

I don't think I bought the wrong game, I think the community is too ambivalent and weak to stand up for beneficial principles, that is to say, if they have any. Yeah, one could argue it's a pirate game, but even in Lord of the Flies, the kids had principles. Anarchy seems fun, till you realize it seeks to collapse the system that supports it.

  • I think a small/loud/aggressive/bored minority is already ruining the game, but yeah that’s a big concern too.

  • I just had this, we completed 2 bounties, got 6 skulls & headed for an outpost to drop it off. A random joins & wants to vote for a voyage, 1 person didn't vote, I continued to the outpost. We get there, the random had left & all our skulls were gone. TBH I am thinking of quitting as all this game does, lately, is cause frustration. I can't get a single voyage without someone being disruptive in some way or not pulling their weight, generally staying on the ship boozing or dropping anchor, blowing up barrels. I can't play alone either because EVERYBODY blows you out of the water, even those claiming to be friendly. Go ashore & they still blast you & sink you anyway, so much for friends. In all the time i've played, I've had 1 decent multiplayer match & 1 match alone.
If a new person joins your crew after a bounty is complete, invoke a policy that doesn't allow them to touch what everyone else has collected.

Sadly there's not a lot foor some to do in the game anymore so this may happen. Also sadly this thread will probably be close due to it's age...not sure why discrimination of age is allowed. U may want to start brand new thread.
