Maintenance every 3 days?

  • so for this extremely BARE bones sandbox we have to put up with maintenance every 3 days? that's pretty much what it says here.......
    Upcoming Maintenance Windows
Last Updated: 21 Mar at 12:00
The game will be unavailable due to necessary maintenance at these times:
    Thursday 22nd March 9am – 1pm GMT
    Saturday 24th March 9am – 12pm GMT
    Tuesday 27th March 9am – 12pm GMT

this is a JOKE for a game that just went live 3 days ago..... and for such a simple game @ that, compared to most other AAA titles.

  • Personally, I welcome the maintenance times. Shows they are working hard to fix the proplems that have been reported rather than ignoring them and running with the money. :-)

  • It seems like this is the workaround for now to get rid of the obvious server issues, hopefully the downtimes will be minimized quickly.

  • I would rather have scheduled maintenance every 3 days for the first few weeks than have the game go down unexpectedly for hours/days at a time (like what usually happens with hyped up AAA games). We each have our opinions though. I just remember games WW2 and D2 being down for a literal day on Xbox during the first week of release.

  • @noruas I assure you this game is much more complex than you think it is.

  • Not an attack on you at all, but I'd imagine you have no idea of the upkeep needed on an always online server based game so your point is kind of mute as you/me don't know what the maintenance is for.

Also, I don't think it's going to be every 3 days forever, it's more than likely to fix launch problems asap then it'll become less frequent.

  • It won't be so lengthy and frequent forever, now is exactly the time to get everything working properly. You can bet money the people at Rare would rather not be pulling the hours they are at the moment, downtime for us = worktime for them.

  • @noruas maintenance means that their trying to work out every single bug that has been found in the game, every AAA game has bugs upon launch, but most of them are not open world like SOT give them some time.

    I welcome maintenance

  • I'm either asleep or at work during those times, so lucky me I guess. That said I think you're making it to be a bigger deal than it is, it's just 4 hours out the day.

  • Omg I think we need to ban toxic players. Nobody owes you anything, and no one promised you anything. Do not like game, please go and take yours money back. Please stop blame this forum and people who really like this game.

  • I'm sure it wont be this way forever. Just until they knock everything back into full working order. Honestly I welcome the maintenance, Its giving me time to get the other chores done that I've been avoiding since Tuesday.

  • @myrm sagte in Maintenance every 3 days?:

Maybe. Or you could say that announcing the second and third maintenance phase and its longevity already means that they have no confidence in fixing the issues in the first maintenance phase.

  • HOW DARE RARE KEEP THEIR GAME ALL CLEANED UP FOR US TO PLAY IT WITHOUT HICCUPS!

  • @Noruas SOT launched 3 days ago. 1 million players in 48 hours. It obiously needs maintenance and updates.

    Jeez, people...

  • On Australian East coast (where 80%+ of the Australian population lives), this is 7 pm to 10 pm.

This is just ridiculous. You want to charge AUD$100 for the game and then make it unavailable when the majority of people will be able to play it.

  • I had a free morning, today... No teaching until 1pm... I could picture some morning sailing ahead, after the school drop off... (Face palm)
Not to worry- I would rather the post-release issues were being addressed, & regularly, so that we can play in the best way possible...
Thanks, Rare, for your hard work so far... :D

  • Gotta love game forums.

Community: your game is broken! fix it! reeeeeeeeeee
Devs: We're taking the game down for maintenance to fix the game.
Community: HOW DARE YOU TAKE THE GAME DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE! THIS IS RIDICULOUS. REEEEEEEEEE

  • @mykemichail Ol' Turnbull needs to get a move on with nbn, the only pirate around here is him.

They have to pick a time - every time is hard for SOMEONE. They likely picked a time both was somewhat manageable for their staff and impacted the fewest number of players.

Not to downplay the Australian East Coast, but I think more people would be impacted if it were 7-10pm in western Europe or North America. Again, though, every time is going to be bad for someone.

Well... GMT+5 to GMT +10 is over half the worlds population. That ranges from India (1B people) to China (another BILLION people).

If they want to run downtime in the main time that I'll be able to play the game, then they can charge me 1/3 the price for the game.

I'm currently on a Xbox Live Game Pass trial but after that's finished, I'm not parting with another cent to play a game that:

    • Constantly forces me onto servers with between 200 and 350 ms ping
    • Is unavailable during the main times I can actually play
  • @shank-ur-face Sadly, the NBN is just about finished, and Australia still has worse internet than most of the develo... I mean undeveloped world.

  • It absolutely f-ks us kiwis and Aussies. It is right in the time when we'd play with mates across the ditch.

    So hopeless.
They could at least do each maintenance in a different regions prime time so it isn't always us that gets shafted.

  • I think 5 hours is too long...

  • you guys really need to fix the skeleton forts.... i just wasted an hour and a half basically fighting it and then you guys do a server maintenance which mean i missed out on all the treasures. biggest waste of time and outrageously annoying to actually do it. I understand the treasure is worth the time but about a dozen waves is just too much.

  • Man Rare can't do right for wrong with some people.
I could be online right now as I'm free (kids out and so is the wife) I would much rather the game get fixed then not.
    Give Rare a bloody break!!

Rare if you read this keep up the good work!!

  • @mykemichail 2 billion is not even half the world's population. There is 7.6 billion

  • @myrm In general thats true but considering the price, the long alpha/beta phase and the games complexity its highly questionable for me to even need that many patches in such a small period of time. For me it doesn't indicate a high quality even if I like the game

  • @myrm said in Maintenance every 3 days?:

Agreed! Most developers would just release their beta and then laugh as we all purchase it for the price of a full release game.

  • I'm going to go against everyones replies here and say I agree with you. 5 hrs every 3 days is a bit excessive in my opinion. I have had zero issues matchmaking and playin the game

  • @noruas Maintenance on game servers are standard practice. 3 days is fairly good to be honest. Most games shutdown for 30 minutes to an hour every day.

So every 3 days for a quick purge of the files and some quick patches is really not that bad. Also note that a simple game which runs server side rather than client side will require some serious server power to run smoothly for the amount of players in the game.

  • As someone who works:

After Worktime: Cant connect with others (gulliver, trimmed) - and Saturday Maintenance. 70 Euro well spent ^^

Pre ordered and played like 2 hours

  • @erikinthebakery Then why not mix up the times a bit so as to minimise one timezones peak period being taken out everytime maintenence happens?

  • @prodigy-burns Yeah 4 hrs that I and obviously the poster are awake or not at work

  • @mykemichail Yeah its c**p

  • @d-muhny Expect ea no professional game publisher risks that because it obviously would harm its future marketing although the company employs enough experienced game developers. Your description rather reminds of some cheap no-name steam games.
