Island Towns. Mayors and Governors.

  • So, we want to always throw more ideas to Rare devs to help them make this as good of a game as possible. Give more of the players a reason to keep playing and coming back. Also, ideas to help the game thrive and playerbase grow. This is just one more idea I wanted to throw out. If it sounds silly you can let me know in the comments below or if you support then by all means comment and let’s keep this thread towards the top for Rare to see. I draw this idea from the game Sid Meier’s Pirates.

The idea is to have not only the 3 companies to go on voyages for but more islands that have Towns belonging to a certain faction like a country. No real countries would be used. Each Town has a mayor or a Governor depending on its size. The things we could do with these are numerous.

First example is doing voyages for a mayor or governor. These can range from delivery of war declarations, joint war declarations between two factions, and peace treaties to other factions Towns. You can also take part in these wars. You can be a privateer and recieve letters of marque to attack enemy factions during the war. Including their towns or other players that might be privateers for that enemy faction. You will of course gain reputation with the faction you work for. Maybe promotional titles and some other rewards. But, decrease in the opposing factions ranks.

Second example is ransacking towns. Either for Governors of the opposing Town faction or just for the money or booty you can steal from a town. Enemy towns you are attacking will fire on you immediately if you are hated enough by them. Cannons will fire from the town like Skeletons firing from forts. You can engage, eventually make land fall, and reach the governor to successfully ransack the town and gain rewards.

If you want to keep up with current events, any and all taverns will have an updated board with who is at war with who or what two factions joined forces, made peace..etc. Giving you the info you need to steer you and your crew towards your next goal.

Thats it. It can definitely be improved and expanded upon. This is in no way something I see getting into the game. Rare devs might not want to work on something so complex, but an idea that I would guarantee more excitement and immersiveness into Sea of Thieves. I know it is silly, but please leave some feedback. Support or no support.

Thanks fellow Pirates and Rare dev team.

  • As much as I like this idea, the Sea of Thieves is a new and relatively uncharted section of the world. This explains the lack of true civilization other than the Outposts. I hope as time progresses, we see colonization of the level you're seeing, perhaps larger islands are discovered and settled. One can only hope!

  • @ximp0sterx Maybe this is a good start? https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/59737/proposal-governor-fort

  • This is essentially what Sid Meirs Pirates was for PC

  • @ximp0sterx

Let me offer a counter idea....

Tameable sharks that you can then surf on.

  • As much as I loved playing Sid Meier's Pirates back in the day, Sea of Thieves (according to the lore) is a spot in the crease of the map, known only to a select few who know how to get there and those who are already there. Right now, it's a haven for the trading companies and us pirates, who are looking to make a quick fortune.

As time passes, maybe enough people will learn to travel to the Sea of Thieves to allow governments to establish a foothold, but right now very few of the islands are large enough to support a bustling town.
