SoT Landmass Comparison

  • Was anyone able to get a land mass comparison of SoT against other games? I know it’s a pirate game, and I love sailing around. However, most of the map is water (obviously). I was wondering if anyone was able to get enough screenshots of the map during beta to put all the land together and compare it with a game like, Fallout 4 or AC origins or something? I think we might have a better idea of where time has been spent when it comes to the content and development of SoT. If most of the map is water, and the entire land mass for SoT is for example, smaller than Fallout 4, we can expect a lot of content on release right? I know the map could vastly change from the beta map to release, but I thought it might be interesting.

  • @spent-d I have not done an actual landmass comparison of SoT to other games.

I believe there is somewhere in the range of 60-70 islands in the game currently (my best guess, this may be off somewhat). Of those islands, perhaps half of them are of the smaller size. This leads me to believe that the total landmass is smaller than other games out there at this time.

As for SoT, I believe the vision is to have a game where sailing plays a very big role. Ships are a large part of the game, both sailing yours to the various places to complete your quests, but also encounters with other players. Whether you decide to fight or join forces with people, the open waters are part of the world.

I agree that it would be interesting to know the sizes, but I do not think we should be just focusing on the landmass (islands) in the game. Yes we might get some extra islands added on release, but the water areas need to be accounted for as well.

  • @spent-d There's a thread here where someone was investigating the world size -

  • @spent-d As shown by Ritchie SH and The Crow's Nest on YouTube, there are several underwater reefs, caves, ruins and shipwrecks. The whole world isn't just islands; Rare has also spent time on the underwater aspect of the game. So yeah while the above sea land mass is definitely less then games like Fallout 4 and AC Origins, there is still "land" underwater.

  • @montysnakebite exactly. They have not had to focus on landmass which makes sense, so what have they focused on?

  • @sundew-np I’m well aware. I’ve played the game a lot. Still wondering though.

  • @katttruewalker perfect! Thank ya kindly :)
