That would destroy any balance that remains; you can split up your team over multiple ships on - most likely - as many servers.

Next Season there will be Custom Servers where there can be up to 24 people on one server.

All your “friends” can play together when in the same guild as they work together for sake goal. Maybe no physically but still.

I have a number of friends who play this game. Like you, getting them all on the same ship isn't possible either as the game doesn't have ships that can hold that many players lol (custom seas can however). On top of that, not everyone can play at the same time, as they have other commitments. So, I play with whoever is on, whenever. We even have fun competitions with each 'team' we set up.

You can still enjoy the game with your friends without asking Rare to create a ship with 16 spots (max amount of players per server). Seeing as you started playing in 2021, I'm pretty sure you already know all of this though.

As others have pointed out the technical limitation to your idea, I'm gonna give you some band-aid solutions.

Create a guild with all your friends.
For each session, assign your friends to multiple boats. Switch every now and then (maybe with a randomizer) so it's not the same teams every session.
Then, you guys set yourself a goal or challenge for this session:

• Most gold earned
• Most ships sunk
• Most shanties played with other pirates
• Most HG wins or streaks.
• Quickest Tall Tale speedrun
• Or any other challenge

Despite my best efforts to get everyone to buy the game, I'm afraid this problem will cause them to lose interest.

People aren't available to play online every day. People lose interest in any game all the time. While one friend is playing something else or another has to get offline, another can fill in.
You should not treat this (or any other) game as a long-term investment which is only worth your money if you can play 5000 hours with ALL your buddies online all the time.
Do not limit yourself. Have fun playing this game with your friends; no matter if it's a big guild, 4 galleon enjoyers, 3 brig enthusiasts or just your sloop buddy.
And if it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, ... just play something else in 2 months and enjoy that game for a while.
