The Problem With the current Reset
It's safe to assume a large portion of players who have stockpiled their doubloons would spend them on gold, cosmetics, letters of recommendation, and voyages across their time on the sea. I for one have played since 2020. Along with many others, I consistently converted my "useless" doubloons into gold and voyages, not knowing about this reset back then.
Currently, the commemorative shop that will be opened will favor only those who stockpiled. if you bought a bunch of cosmetics from prior seasons, you can't afford anything in the shop. in fact, to my understanding those cosmetics you grinded for with doubloons will now cost gold. you now have nothing to remember that grind by, except the cosmetic that now would be much easier to buy with gold.
A personal example:
I Missed season 4 and grinded out 3,000 doubloons for Wanda's spyglass when it arrived in the outpost stores in season 11. Not only do I now have less doubloons for the commemorative shop because of that big purchase, but if I had just waited, I could have bought it with Gold and have plenty of doubloons for this commemorative shop.
this system does not reward time spent obtaining doubloons, rather lack of spending them. those who grinded for doubloons to purchase cosmetics spent as much time and effort obtaining their currency as those who held on to their doubloons and should be rewarded equally.
My solution
My proposal is at the beginning of this reset; everyone's doubloon balance is wiped, and then they are awarded every doubloon they ever earned, thus giving both those who partook in the economy and those who hoarded a fair amount to use in the commemorative shop; being rewarded for time and effort over the years
Under this system, those who obtained and spent doubloons are still rewarded. this system rewards time and effort over the randomness of whether you stockpiled your doubloons or not.
P.S- I made this post really with those who bought many past seasonal cosmetics in mind, I'm almost certain I have enough doubloons for the shop but I think about those unlucky players who grinded thousands of doubloons to get cosmetics from seasons they missed, only to hear that the cosmetics would now cost gold and thus doubloon grind a waste of time, with the commemorative shop's items not in their budget.
