Sea Of Thieves has become a broken buggy mess...

  • I've been noticing TONS of new bugs since I started playing this game again recently, heck I can't even pull my lantern out without it being broken 50% of the time. Plus there's so many other crazy bugs going on right now with the wheel and the ships and all kinds of things that are just crazy to me that these bugs exist because they seem like such simple easy to fix things and yet to this day 90% of the pistols in this game are still completely unusable because they don't shoot ANYWHERE NEAR where the sights on them are aiming (especially with the new double barrel pistols they're horrendously inaccurate).

It just boggles my mind that Rare still expect their players to play this game in High Seas with PVP enabled with all of these broken bugs and exploits. It's just ridiculous...

As for Safer Seas I still think it needs to be improved both bug wise and also the fact that there is still a ton of PVE only things that are available in High Seas but not available in Safer Seas.

The biggest issue is selling loot in Safer Seas, with how broken buggy and unstable the game has become selling loot in Safer Seas is A NIGHTMARE now compared to High Seas. In High Seas I can actually use my captained ship so I can just harpoon all of the loot and never touch it and take it all to the sovereign and harpoon it again and sell it all to the sovereign quick and easy without having to worry about the game lagging and crashing before I can get it all sold. In Safer Seas you can't use your captained ships (which we really should be allowed to use our captained ships in safer seas RARE) so when I'm playing in safer seas I can't quickly and easily sell everything to the sovereign I have to manually carry it to each vendor and sell it manually which because of the buggy state of the game 90% of the time I have my game lag or crash and kick me out when I've only just started to sell all of my loot in Safer Seas causing me to lose all of my hard earned loot that I was trying to sell because the friggin game is too broken to even allow me to sell my loot!

It's extremely frustrating when I can't even do simple things like selling loot in Safer Seas without the game servers becoming so unstable and laggy that the server crashes and I lose all of my progress... But I also can't play in High Seas because there are so many new bugs and exploits being used that it's become extremely toxic and unplayable for casual players like myself...

The only way I think this could be truly fixed would be for Rare to add some kind of new location to the map with a single vendor with harpoons near them where players can sell ALL of the loot in the game to a single NPC without having to be on a captained ship. Perhaps you could take the old Sea Dogs Tavern (which is still completely useless and really needs to be reused or repurposed into SOMETHING useful again) and you could add a new NPC there along with some harpoons and make it so that new NPC accepts ALL of the loot in the game regardless of what loot it is with the only drawback being that if you sell your loot to them it won't apply any emissary bonuses to the loot that way in High Seas nobody who's playing with an emissary or on a captained ship would ever bother selling their loot to this NPC unless it's loot that's not for their current emissary (or stuff like the smuggler's loot that you can only sell to a smuggler's league representative which this NPC would also be so they would accept smuggler's exclusive loot along with all other loot in the game aside from reapers exclusive loot) but they won't apply any emissary bonuses to the loot you sell to them so players in Safer Seas will finally have a place to go where we can quickly and easily sell all of our loot without having to worry about the server lagging and crashing before we can get it all sold and people in High Seas will have a neat new NPC who accepts ALL of the loot in the game (accept reapers exclusive loot) including the new smuggler's league loot so you won't have to run around the map to sell all of your loot with the only drawback being that you won't get any emissary bonuses selling it to them.

Regardless Rare you seriously need to focus on fixing the performance issues your game is having right now for both High Seas AND Safer Seas. Especially for Safer Seas because your refusal to allow us to use our captained ships in Safer Seas is making it unplayable because of how laggy and buggy the servers are which is causing players to get kicked out while trying to manually sell all of their loot to the separate NPCs. So unless you're going to MASSIVELY overhaul the servers for Sea Of Thieves and make them 10× more powerful than the current servers so the game can actually run on them without being a broken buggy mess I suggest alternatives like adding a new NPC in a new location (or the old Sea Dogs Tavern that still needs repurposed into something useful again) who we can sell all of the loot in the game to without having to worry about the servers lagging or crashing out before we can get all or at least most of our loot sold!

  • The game is very buggy yes.

But I think this post is just a safer seas complaint, it's mentioned THIRTEEN TIMES in your post lol.

  • If your game is lagging or crashing out that often while moving with loot, you probably have bigger stability issues with your system. The game has bugs, but it's not that buggy and unstable.

  • The biggest issue is selling loot in Safer Seas, with how broken buggy and unstable the game has become selling loot in Safer Seas is A NIGHTMARE now compared to High Seas. In High Seas I can actually use my captained ship

Okie..then. Play on high seas more often.
Complaining about the nightmare horrors of selling in safer seas. Because you have to turn in to each faction. You poor thing. You don’t even know the full truth,
“back in my day” and you know the rest.

Answer is clear. Play HS as you always should. Or deal with the restrictions. After all, your. It suppose to stay there…learn the game and come join.

  • As mentioned above, this sounds like a stability issue with your machine (which may not always affect every game).

    Things to try:

    • Cap your framerate at 120fps
    • Verify game files
    • Update your graphics drivers
    • Run SFC and DISM scans (google these, very easy to do, and can solve a lot of system issues)
    • Switch Direct3D version in the game settings
    • Move the game to a different drive
    • If you have an AMD system, turn off Memory Context Restore in your BIOS (May have a slightly different name depending on vendor, while this makes your system boot faster it can cause stability issues with incorrectly trained RAM)

To be clear: I am not saying the game runs great or that it's perfect. I do see a lot of short periods of stutter, which I would put down to shader compilation, a known issue with many Unreal Engine games with DX12. With Direct3D 12 now implemented in the game, I think Rare should consider adding an optional full PSO/Shader compilation step at boot. Direct3D 11 might be more stable in that regard but, in my experience, runs worse (much lower framerates overall and poor frame pacing. YMMV). However, from I've seen, the actual client itself is a lot more stable than it was just a year ago.

‘The game design and intent for Sea of thieves…”

  • Just going to quickly make this clear this is purely a server side problem because I play on an Xbox Series X 4k 60 fps and I have no issues with any other games or with my Internet connection either as I have a hardwired connection with gigabit upload & download speeds and a fully open nat type at all times. I've played multiple other games and have had no similar issues in other games I only have these lagging and crashing issues in Sea Of Thieves and I mostly experience the lag in Safer Seas more than High Seas, but I still have the server lagging issues in high seas as well just not as frequently as I do in safer seas. I play both high seas and safer seas I only play in safer seas when I'm playing solo as trying to play solo in High Seas is a horrible experience I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. I have also fully maxed out all of my factions in this game (aside from the PVP ones as I do not PVP in this game because it's horrible XD) and I literally have everything in the game I'm only playing to earn XP and level up my season pass. The problem is when I'm playing solo or with my friends who are new to the game and still learning the basics I play in Safer Seas but Safer Seas has been extremely laggy every time I've played in it to the point that when I try to sell my loot my whole game lags and suddenly my ship slowly sinks into the ocean then I get disconnected from the server because the server crashed and I have to start all over and I lose all of my XP from that loot I was going to sell (I don't need nor want the gold I have over 20,000,000 gold and have nothing left to spend it on, I just want to level up my season pass and selling loot gives me a lot of XP for my season pass)

  • Strangely, I play on Series X and have 0 of all those issues you claim. I play solely on Console servers (controllers) and never have those problems you mention.

So either, it not simply server or more region? Or even, Maybe its really you?
    Who to say.

I only play in safer seas when I'm playing solo as trying to play solo in High Seas is a horrible experience I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy.

So you restrict yourself because, you cant join other crews to play. Which is the way game wants you too play. But some reason..players today cant even do that. Strangers online.

Or even open a Looking for group and pick the ones to join? Idk...players today are looking for excuses to a simple game and demand changes that suit Only there needs. Never always everyone, just them.

Safer Seas has been extremely laggy every time I've played in it to the point that when I try to sell my loot my whole game lags and suddenly my ship slowly sinks into the ocean then I get disconnected from the server because the server crashed and I have to start all over and I lose all of my XP from that loot I was going to sell

See. This all seems to be more of a Users connection or something. "server crashes" means everyone on that server crashes but I doubt.

So why is it, all these complaints you have, and I have same Console as you. I have not had same issue? So it isn't the console or servers. So has to be something else.

  • In my opinion, a safe ocean should not prohibit players from using their own captain's ships. At the same time, sovereignty should be opened up.
Someone may ask why this is the case.
In a safer ocean, no one will come to steal your spoils of war. There is also no special envoy bonus.
There is no need for him to bring the goods to the designated person for sale.
It's better to let players sell their loot more quickly.
Assuming the current time in the real world is 8 o'clock. I need to go to work at 12 o'clock. If I play Thief's Sea, in a safer ocean mode. I need to depart at 11 o'clock to go to the trading station. And started selling my loot.
If I only start going to the trading post after 11:30. So it's very likely that my loot hasn't been sold out yet. But I don't have time left.
Because the safer ocean has no enemies, forcing players to slowly move loot is meaningless. No one will ever attack you.
And players may have something urgent to do in reality. This will result in being forced to discard the hard-earned spoils of war.

  • In a safer ocean, no one will come to steal your spoils of war.

so your in no need to rush to sell, or even fear selling slowly.
Thus, dont need the perks of a captain ship.

Assuming the current time in the real world is 8 o'clock. I need to go to work at 12 o'clock. If I play Thief's Sea, in a safer ocean mode. I need to depart at 11 o'clock to go to the trading station. And started selling my loot.

That sounds like being an adult and managing your time better. RL vs Gaming. Is selling all that loot, you spent hours collecting, with no real danger worth spending few extra min selling in a video games, over going to bed at a reasonable time for work next day.

And players may have something urgent to do in reality.

Again, its a lesson to learn. Gaming should never take over your real life.
This a weird story, someone breaks into your house at gun point and you tell the gunmen to "Hold on let me save my progress" :/

Your on Safer Seas, you got all the freedom to sell, Often without ever looking over your shoulder.

  • @rambobrad said in Sea Of Thieves has become a broken buggy mess...:

Just check their history. It's their 13th post about SS probably xD

Idk how many time they got locked up, and after that just masked restriction removals differently every single time, to hopefully avoid getting locked up again lol.

  • I'm Series X as well and can play the game fine.

  • Safer seas servers aren’t always your local server. When I play on my local high seas I normally have 50s-60s for ping, with a spike to 80s every now and then. On safer seas I’ll sometimes have a session that starts off in the 90s and will leave to start a new one to try and get better base ping.
Do you have the ping counter turned on? I also play on series X but I play at 120hz 1080p because that’s the resolution of the monitor I use, on my TV it’s 60hz 4k, but I rarely play on my TV these days due to room configuration.

I’ve mostly been on high seas the past few weeks working on things, but I have had a few issues with random errors that actually coincided with the streamer I was watching while I played also having issues. So I do think the servers in general were having a few issues over the holidays, but nothing I can remember going wrong this week.

Note: I play in the late night to early morning hours and so do the streamers I watch, they are still in my region. We are all second/night shift and I do think experiences vary by time of day and region.

  • There are a lot of bugs that I didn't cover in this post as well that have been plaguing the game in both high seas & safer seas. The worst imo being the bug that causes loot floating in the water to become unobtainable as it can't be harpooned, can't be picked up manually by the player, and can't be grabbed with the grapple gun. The loot essentially becomes bugged so that it's impossible to pick it up and your only option is to abandon that loot because it's bugged and can't be picked up no matter what you try. I've lost many pieces of loot to this bug, mostly high value loot for the smuggler's league that's worth a lot of XP & gold. There's also issues with the lantern being bugged when you equip it and issues with the wheel of the ship bugging out as well as several different bugs that allow players to send themselves flying across the ocean so fast they just magically appear on your ladder or even on your ship from out of nowhere when their ship is so far away you can't even get the pop-up for it. There are also some bugs that players are exploiting to fire weapons faster than intended along with other bugs that affect game stability and can cause players to get disconnected or crash their whole game. All of these bugs should be fixed as they didn't even exist last time I played back in season 16. The servers are horrible and have constant lag spikes and yes I have cross region matchmaking disabled and yes I have the ping counter enabled and again I have a perfect Internet connection that never has any issues this is solely a server side issue and I constantly get lag spikes that will very often crash the entire server both in Safer Seas & high seas but I more frequently run into the server lag issues in Safer Seas than I do in High Seas regardless of how good my connection to the server is.
I have no idea why the game has become such a buggy mess but it's absolutely unacceptable especially when I'm playing Solo or with my friends who are new to the game and still learning the basics in safer seas where it's supposed to be safe and yet the majority of the time when I play I end up nearly lagging out multiple times sometimes the server crashes in the middle of my adventures but the most common time I get big lag spikes and get disconnected is when I'm attempting to sell my loot in Safer Seas as it seems the more loot you have the more laggy the server gets and even with just a single events worth of loot I will have my whole game freeze up and lag horrendously as the server crashes while I'm attempting to sell my loot it's just an awful not fun not enjoyable experience when I'm simply trying to chill and play the game and warm XP to level up.

Idc what your opinions are for Safer Seas the problem is that the game is very unstable and a broken buggy mess every time I play it and it seems to be worse in Safer Seas than in High Seas which is not okay. Especially when you can't sell loot quickly in Safer Seas like you can in High Seas whether it be selling to reapers or sovereign or whatever you can't quickly sell loot in Safer Seas like you can in High Seas which becomes a problem when the servers are constantly being overloaded or whatever is happening that causes them to crash as you're trying to sell your loot which is absolutely unacceptable and not a good or fun or enjoyable experience for anyone.

Rare needs to start focusing on bug fixes and performance fixes rather than content drops because it doesn't matter how much content you add to the game if the game is so buggy and broken that I can't enjoy that content then I'm not going to play your game and you aren't going to make money and your player counts are going to plummet and Microsoft will very much shut down the servers for this game to relocate them elsewhere to something that makes them more money.

    [Mod edit]

....nobody liked this game before captaincy was added because of how horrible the experience of selling loot manually truly is. It's slow, it's painful, it's not fun, it's not enjoyable. Especially when the servers frequently lag and crash while you're in the middle of trying to manually sell all of your loot which then causes you to lose all of your progress and for many of my friends who were trying this game for the first time was enough to make them uninstall it and refuse to install and play it again.

[Mod edit] At the very least you could add a new poi somewhere in the map (or repurpose an old unused poi like the sea dogs tavern) and add a new NPC there that accepts all loot like the sovereign but without the requirement of being on a captained ship so then Safer Seas players also have a way to sell loot the proper way that it should be so we don't have all of these issues that we're having with lag and crashing because you refuse to listen...

All I know is that the game is currently very broken, very buggy, very unstable, and not enjoyable when I'm being forced to deal with all of that while also having to deal with people attacking me because I'm playing in High Seas with PVP enabled and because you won't listen to your players the high seas player base has become extremely toxic and hateful and not fun :(

I don't want to play a game in which the people I'm playing against are toxic and throwing out constant hate speech and toxic slurs and worse and just being in general horrible rude unkind people. Instead of making an environment that purposely breeds toxicity and hate you should change things and make it so the game is very much the opposite of that because the way it currently is High Seas breeds toxicity it brings the absolute worst out of it's players and that's not a fun or enjoyable experience for anyone :(

So Rare please listen to your players, focus on fixing the bugs and stability issues.

  • @m1ke-da-1ke Instead of locking the thread with the standard reply - which you should know by heart at this point and that has not changed since your last visit - I have edited your post. This is your one and only chance to stick to what you claim is the topic of this thread rather than use it as a 'cover' to ask for exclusive features and/or restriction removal from Safer Seas.

  • I have a perfect Internet connection that never has any issues this is solely a server side issue

No Internet connection is "Perfect" there will always be times, days or often amount of something to where it will hiccup until you clear it up.

the bug that causes loot floating in the water to become unobtainable as it can't be harpooned

Send Support this information so the Team knows its a causing issue among the few who have this and they can get a better grip on "why" its happening.

I have no idea why the game has become such a buggy mess

Same reason GTA, Fortnite and other games with a bunch of updates. Too much stuff on old engines. It needs to be refined and broken down.

Rare needs to start focusing on bug fixes and performance fixes rather than content drops

I remember a time they did this for 3+ months, just fixes, smaller updates and no content addons. The community threw a fit! and got upset nothing was being added. :/

So its either, they split the work and do what they can. Or focus 100% on one matter.
But you also have to think, Not everyone suffers. Sometimes these bugs is one sided, and often the Player system issue. if it was a major issue, you think more people would flood the page with "Yup, it happens to me"

nobody liked this game before captaincy was added because of how horrible the experience of selling loot manually truly is.

"Nobody" Yeah, because they made a simple thing, easier. But even that isn't enough apparently. Before Captaincy, we didnt have a load of Easy to acquire loot, most casual players would only actually make 1mil loot worth in short periods. (on good days)

I don't want to play a game in which the people I'm playing against are toxic and throwing out constant hate speech and toxic slurs and worse and just being in general horrible rude unkind people

Sorry you deal with the 1% on a hour daily thing. (I myself have never once encountered these people. Im surprised...and I have open mic)
But, you do have choices. To avoid Speech: Turn off Other Crews.
As for "Toxic" behavior by other means...being attacked? idk...

High Seas breeds toxicity it brings the absolute worst out of it's players and that's not a fun or enjoyable experience for anyone

I meet so many kind, funny, humorous and sometimes quiet people. I truly Need to see where all these people you meet come from. Is it Region based? Console/Pc?
Do you have video? I need to see these.

So Rare please listen to your players, focus on fixing the bugs and stability issues.

They are. Said it many times "its being worked on behind the scenes" But every bug fixed in any video game created, leaves room for more bugs, even on Old engines when they keep adding new stuff.
Tell me a game that isnt buggy, broken during its 7+ year run?

  • @mopwieldinghedgehog a dit dans Sea Of Thieves has become a broken buggy mess... :

@m1ke-da-1ke Instead of locking the thread with the standard reply - which you should know by heart at this point and that has not changed since your last visit - I have edited your post. This is your one and only chance to stick to what you claim is the topic of this thread rather than use it as a 'cover' to ask for exclusive features and/or restriction removal from Safer Seas.

So, I'm going to tell you what I saw, and contrary to what you're saying here, this is not an attempt to ask for additional features in Safers Seas.
I have a very good internet connection and a high-end PC, and yet when I connected to Safers Seas, I sometimes experienced ping spikes of over 300ms.
Needless to say, this makes the game completely unplayable, as these ping spikes occur from the moment I spawn at the outpost and only stop when I leave the session.
Contrary to what you imply, there are indeed server connection issues with Safers Seas.

  • I agree 100%! We tried logging on high seas and was booted twice, our rafial dials didn't work 3 times. The last crash tonight we bailed on the game.
We should have played on safer seas

  • @zeyrniyx

So, I'm going to tell you what I saw, and contrary to what you're saying here, this is not an attempt to ask for additional features in Safers Seas.

Contrary to what you're saying, before saying anything else - check OPs post history. xD And yea, they always sneak in SS restriction related complaints/requests. So it's only natural Mop warned them about it.

Also, just need to spend 10 seconds reading their post to acknowledge it lol.

I have a very good internet connection and a high-end PC, and yet when I connected to Safers Seas, I sometimes experienced ping spikes of over 300ms.

Then how come for example I don't have it? And I spend roughly half of my play time in SS. High end PC, fiber net, EU region. Mainly when doing fishing commendations and meg hunting and/or playing solo.

Needless to say, this makes the game completely unplayable, as these ping spikes occur from the moment I spawn at the outpost and only stop when I leave the session.

Then it might be an issue with a specific server, or even a global one that's affecting HS as well. Not necessarily across SS only.

Contrary to what you imply, there are indeed server connection issues with Safers Seas.

Contrary to what you imply, I yet have to experience one. And even if both you and OP have it - feedback section still isn't the place to whine about it. Feel free to submit a ticket to support, if you're actually having issues and thinking it's related to the mode itself.

If there's any merit to what both of you are claiming, then it's gonna be forwarded by support and fixed at some point.
