Suggestion: delete Hourglass miles commendations.

  • Hi, so like the name suggest, I think it would be a really great idea to delete the miles commendations in the hourglass faction. Hourglass is a only pvp mode, yes there are runners but there are players who are running because they are doing miles. I think I heard that hg will get some change and one is the fact that the area will shrink over time. Its very good to encourage fighting (which is the basic reason why people play hg).
So with the fact that the area will shrinks it will be even worst to do miles. So simple solution, delete those miles commendations for hg and there will even be less runner. Even better they don't unlock skins or titles, so no loss.

For poeple who will complain that they farmed those miles and it took a long time. Remember the commendation of the 250 purchased quest for GH, OOS, MA which got deleted when captaincy came out ?. Same thing here.

  • Nah dont delete them but make it so if you do a nautical mile on servants for example it will count for both commendations at the same time.
Right now it will only serve one at a time. If people run to much i would work on the boarding skill.

  • @reds-herring It already does ? you just need to be more than 100 for the second to count. And if it just change there is no need for 2 miles commendations in each hourglass factions. But still hourglass is shipfight and tmd. Not only tdm, I know some players only tdm sadly.
And I think the majority of the players prefer fighting than just running after or trying to board the ennemie ship.
To add to this it will be even worse for anyone who want to do miles with the area shrinking.

  • Can’t you still do the miles “defending”

  • @burnbacon Yes but like I said, you will get invaded and then you either let the other win, fight or run. The majority of players doing miles will run and wait for you to leave.

  • @momoque2 Going in a circle barely even gets you miles due to how it's calculated (it's just distance from where you were 5 minutes ago, every 5 minutes), which is why the comm makes even less sense. You will be like 2000 ally before you get miles completed

They should At least delete one of them.. why are there two in each

  • @captain-knyt Yes, exactly.

If you defend and then win your first invasion (which could be instant or take half an hour), then there's a cool-down before you can be invaded again of I think 15 mins (maybe more). Plenty of time to sail around and rack up those pointless miles.

It also helps if you stop trying to speed run commendations that are downright not fun. 100%'ing SOT is almost impossible. Just have fun playing the game, instead.

The problem is that in comparison to other miles, you cant do them passively while doing other stuff exept hourglass and there i finished the second commendation around 1500 levels for Guardians.

Its either getting them passively through hourglass, which many people dont enjoy, or getting them through grinding, which noone enjoys.

Rare should just remoove them at this point, at least for the people who didnt finish them yet.
They shouldnt have been implemented in the first place and dont even give any reward.

This part I completely agree with. I absolutely hate Rare's insistence on making commendations overly grindy and repetitive, often requiring tens or even hundreds of hours of downright unfun gameplay to complete. A lot of them completely lack creativity and are just lazy filler commendations. That said, they seem to double down on that strategy every season in some fun new way, so I have no confidence they're going to back off of it.

You can kinda get them passively, though: defending.

Sailing around doing stuff and waiting to be invaded is the "passive way of doing it. Hunter's Call Meg hunting voyages, merchant alliance lost shipment voyages - voyages where you're pretty much just asked to sail from point to point repeatedly with minimal stoppage.

That's how I would do it if you asked me how to complete a commendation that I have no interest in completing and won't yield any increased fun in the game whatsoever if I were to complete it.

Is it the absolute hardest miles commendation in the game? Yeah, for sure. Trying to get it just by diving to matches would take an absolute eternity.

At best they'll lower the mileage requirement marginally...but there's no shot they outright delete it.

Well they are going to make some change for hg, so while doing those change why not just delete those miles commendations ?

Well, I'm not trying to speed run. Those are the last commendations I have with shrouded ghost, reaper miles. And yes good you have a 15 min cooldown but it takes 30 minutes to do 5 miles while on brig with the wind in your sails.

  • My servant rep is 500+
Empire of flame miles is also 500+
I do a mix of diving and defending.
I'm still some ways to go before unlocking the cherished trinket for winning battles while defending as servants.

I think the miles is one way we're encouraged to do defense.
It's fairly feasible as servant / reaper emissary. We could still do emissary hunting while waiting to be invaded / getting miles.
A bit less fun on guardians / athena emissary. I guess we could do veil voyages while waiting to be invaded / getting miles.

So I don't mind the way it is right now.
