Stand on the deck of the sloop, in front of the mast, facing the bell.
Slash the bell with your sword, note the little swipe and dust effect.
Take a step back, slash again.
Repeat until the swipe/dust effect doesn't happen.
Take a step forward juuust until it happens again pretty consistently.
Emote into a third person view.
Boom, you can now see the "range" of the sword, which for some reason is the length of a good spear. A hitbox the size of a gorilla, if you will.
All the weapons have strange balance but they still have balance. Forcing playstyles and taking agency away from the player (especially after 7 years of an existing system) is never a good idea. Let people use what they want, and adapt. I get by juuust fine with Sword/Eye of Reach or Sword/Throwing Knife. If you know what you're doing with sword leaps and lunges, it's a very maneuverable weapon!
And forcing people to have a throwing knife at all times? Even worse idea, that has the highest intended DPS/fastest TTK in the game, it's a monster if used right!
