The other night we were doing Order of the Souls voyages in the Devil's Roar. When we would dig up the Order of Bone and Blade skeletons on the island to help us on our quest, we would hand them items to help carry back to the ship. As soon as I got back onto the ship and my crew mate was attempting to collect the items from the skeletons, there was a server merge. When the merge happened, our Order of Bone and Blade skeletons were gone and so was our voyage loot. We hoped if we dug up more Order of the Bone and Blade skeletons that perhaps our items would spawn with them. They did not. We returned to where the items were originally picked up (where we had defeated an Ashen Lord) and the items were not there.
Heed some warning and don't give valuable loot to skellys to return to your ship, because if the serve merges unexpectedly then your loot will be gone.
