Please make a better goal in the game

  • I would love to see ways to upgrade the ships, not just cosmetically, but also by making the option to upgrade them to be stronger and more powerful. But making players to be able to upgrade their ships too much can ruin new players experience so try doing it without the option that it will harm new players.

  • @shakableboar526 nah, keep everyone the same. as you mentioned it would be bad for newest players.

  • No. The game's design philosophy is that there's no 'upgrades' and everyone starts every session equal in power.

Your idea is 'Let people upgrade their ship, but make sure it does not affect new players'. Which is, to put it plainly, impossible.
Your suggestion not only goes against the core idea of the game, but it's also incredibly vague. If ships were upgradable; How would it NOT affect new players?
If I could upgrade my ship, and I ran into a new player; I'd win. I'd have a stronger ship and my experience in the game against them having....nothing.

    No.

  • @shakableboar526 you want upgrades that will become unfair to new players but you don’t want upgrades that will become unfair to new players, yet you offer no explanation how Rare would begin to do this?

  • LOL, Please make ships more powerful and stronger, and while I understand it might ruin new player's experiences, can you guys try doing it without the option that it will harm new players.

  • Just a brig right off the dock with base supplies and pockets from the outpost is overkill on most servers. That's why people can solo brigs and why open crews can wreck a server pretty regularly with a brig.

Watching people Waterworld each other in hg would be funny tho.

  • @shakableboar526 Hey Pirate !

First off, you need to change the post's name lol.

The goal of the game is to have fun & make memories.

Upgrading ships doesn't benefit the game, if you're becoming bored of Sea of Thieves, go play a different experience and come back some other time or not. Sea of Thieves has plenty to do for everyone for the most part, if it's becoming very redundant, which in all honesty all of us have to admit, it can become that. If so, again take a break or switch it up.

Coming to the forums and barking a cat up a tree with another ship upgrade idea doesn't create good discussions. At least try to make it a cosmetic upgrade that doesn't affect combat with unfair advantages that can't be fairly found by every player through a WE or a naturally spawning event. Make sure you research and look at counter claims along with rereading your post to see if it is new or is just a reissued idea.

    Safe Journeys.

  • But making players to be able to upgrade their ships too much can ruin new players experience so try doing it without the option that it will harm new players.

    Soo...don't have upgrades?

  • the beauty of SoT is you can make your own goals and work towards them. Make a new friend, do the tall tales, do a world event, etc.

The other thing that's brilliant is that everyone has the same pool of weapons, equipment and resources, so the only progress is horizontal, as a more verticle progression is not a fun experience.
By making upgradable ships, it removes that core idea of the game. The length of most fights comes down to the skills of the crew rather than their resources in most scenarios, so by being able to upgrade a ship, a mediocre crew could have an overpowered ship and make fights really not fun to participate in

  • @shakableboar526 you are requesting vertical progression but at the same time you understand how this would impact new(er) players

The games philosophy is horizontal progression only

The only way i see this working is “temporary” upgrades, like the horn of fair winds etc.

Maybe have other wood plank types that have extra durability properties or something like that, or ald something like caulking, it would make it that the spot hit would not instantly become a tier 2 hole on cannonball impact but make it start at a tier 1.

Make it so we can find an extra sail that we can attach to our ship for the session but it can be destroyed/removed by enemies.

Stuff like that, again just some simple things to throw out there. Nothing with permanent effects but situational temporary items
