Cannon Recoil

  • Why does cannon recoil make my ship drift even while anchored these days? Literally pushed my own ship out of a winning position via firing my own cannon, and I don't recall that always being a thing.

  • been around a few seasons

tough to get a good rotation on ships these days as a solo

makes fun plays from stationaries less fun too because moving all over the place will save boats that would otherwise be in some trouble.

  • Is it the recoil, I thought it was slight knockback from when cannons hit your ship. I think similar to blunder bombs having the somewhat extreme response of potentially turning your ship based on where sea dogs arena is in relation to you. Cannonballs do likewise but on a much more subtle scale

  • @hiradc You're correct about enemy cannonballs and especially blunder bombs being able to push your ship around.

However in my particular situation, I had just one-balled the guy and sent him to the ferryman. I then anchored myself in a prime position where I continuously bombarded him with about 15 cannonballs... it was going great. The only problem was, I was aiming with the right side cannons at a slight rear-right angle which caused my cannon recoil to push my own ship forward and to the left like a jet engine vector thrust; out of angle of the enemy.

Then while trying to fix my situation, my wheel gets tripled, I get de-masted, and then he circle around and gets a lucky one-ball on me that wins the game for him.

I tested it again at an outpost without raising the annchor, and your own cannon shots do move your ship quite a bit. A lot more than I ever recalled it being able to do so.

  • @olde-grim-jack interesting, will have to check it out. I guess it's quite niche situations where it becomes noticeable

  • @hiradc

    Exactly lol
