In a FPS game that relies on quick movement, why is there even a "run" button? Why is it not default on?

  • I've never quite understood the reasoning here- if nothing else, can we just get an "always run" toggle in settings?

  • SoT isn’t a first person shooter at heart, it’s an action adventure game, so offers slow paced walking, running, and sprinting.

  • Because apparently the run is stuck and. Busy likes to run. (Read a few anti running threads)

  • @tesiccl Having played consistently since beta the number of times I've seen people use slow walk is miniscule, and walk is used by new folks only until they discover how quickly they're at a disadvantage if not running.

  • Because the game is not intended as a fast paced fps. Its supposed to be a silly pirate game that is about unpredictable interactions with others, it just happens to have fps features because you cant very well have a first person pirate game without weapons.

So basically it does not need to function like a fast action fps game since it is not one.

  • @warpfact0r10 as a multitude of FPS games, the "always running" is a feature that only cod have, and it's not a strategically responsible thing, because you consume stamina and you can being heard.

  • @fedted998 was that necessary? You've just outed yourself as the sort of "person" that needs sinking to the depths.

Hope mods see that and deal accordingly.

  • As above comments said it's not an FPS game or fast paced. Don't find holding a button to run any hassle. Also permanent run would make some of the parkour sections in temples etc a nightmare.

  • @thegingrprince sunk.

  • @tesiccl Rolls on deck laughing etc.

  • @thegingrprince there were other examples, but they’ve been nuked now. Big oof! Moving on.

  • @tesiccl Yea, I saw that too. I worry about people that make that sort of thing their entire personality.

I don't want it on my seas and neither do most of us here.

Keep up the good work Mods!

  • @absenteebadge12 Dude, Racism deserves to be shamed. This has NOTHING to do with your idea and you know it.

Mods agreed and edited your post.

    I will not respond further.

    Be better.

Otherwise, let’s not derail the topic. Thank you.

  • my topic was not at all about you shaming me for wanting a pirate creator, you derail this long time ago xd, you should be ashamed but prob u are notgo ahead and read the link u send

  • Repeat after me everyone and tell it to everyone else.

Sea of Thieves IS NOT an FPS.

Sea of Thieves is a PVEVP Sandbox game.

  • @absenteebadge12 your topic is here: https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/167990/ipg-problem - if you want to respond regarding that topic, do it there, otherwise don’t start arguments on someone else’s.

  • @goldsmen Perhaps when it was originally conceived that was the case, but what the game is today is quite different than that I'd say. Just take a look at any of the myriad streamers hourglassing (or even just in adventure).

I think in particular when turning 90 degrees or more there are instances where the player will stop running that it would be an absolute joy to be able to have a "always run" option toggled on. The abrupt, unintentional pause in running is frustrating. My Shift key cries for mercy!

If you look at streamers doing hourglass then it definitely looks like a wacky fps game and high speed, but hourglass is not exactly the norm and is rarely touched by both streamers and the average player. When you look at normal adventure streams, its not typically people doing massive battles with really skilled players, it tends to either be sneaky tuckers, or people playing a variety of casual and pvp. Often times when it does come to pvp in those adventure streams, it isnt exactly high paced intense fights, it usually is a bit of goofiness and often times the other person is far from some intense mega sweaty pvper.

Even if most streamers wernt playing some mix of tucking and wacky steals, you cant really compare a streamer to the average player. The game may have more tools that can make genuinely intense moments very wild, but the games core principle has not really changed. Its still supposed to be a goofy pirate game that you can do anything in, rather than some intense battle sim.
