Mobility S14

  • It's 2024, even Roblox games have better mobility mechanics than Sea of Thieves, if someone goes from a game like Warzone to Sea of Thieves they will look for a way to slide or climb walls, I don't know if it's something that's already been talked about, but I would like some of these features to be added in the future to improve mobility in the game:

    **-**Slide
    **-**Climb walls (It's incredible that you can't climb a barrel)
    **-**Bend
    **-**Lie down
    I think these should be essential in most games today.

  • Lying down you can do via emoting. Crouching was hinted in the preview video but with crouching comes the good old bags of tea…

    Two different games. Different in so many ways.

    I came from CoD, OverWatch, Minecraft and Halo. I never wanted to find a way to, Shoot my cut with crosshair, teleport or ping, dig a hole and build a house, Find shields to protect my armor.... Its a whole new game, it expected to not follow any other game.

    Slide, Why? What are you sliding for or under?
    Climb walls, So far we know we are getting Harpoons.
    Bend, For..what? Dodging?
    Lie Down, Emote?

    I think these should be essential in most games today

    Frankly, Im happy good games dont follow every other games choices. It makes it different and not a copy/paste. Like riding a bike vs riding a motor bike.

    Yes, the harpoon thing is a mechanism that I proposed last year and many conformist people like you came to justify that they were unnecessary, that it was okay that way, etc. and here we are.
    And by climbing walls I mean being able to climb short distances, for example: climbing a barrel, when you jump from one dock to another and can't reach it, you can climb up with an animation, without it being necessary to use the harpoon.

    Lie Down, Emote?
    It's silly to have to make an emote to do a function that should be as basic as walking.

    Frankly, Im happy good games dont follow every other games choices. It makes it different and not a copy/paste. Like riding a bike vs riding a motor bike.

    I'm not saying copy and paste, just do the basics.
    I mean before in games you couldn't run and it was due to technological limitations, once it was achieved it became a law and in the vast majority, if not all games, you can run nowadays, because the other movement mechanics Can't they be like that? You say it yourself, lying down is already used with an emoticon, this is because the players themselves look for a way to do something that opens a world of possibilities to create stories, etc. What I want to get at is that if it is already a mechanic that is "used in the game", don't you think they should implement it in a correct and practical way? I think it would create many good anecdotes in S14 of pirates of mischief .

    My question is, why are any of these movements needed in SoT? What are they going to add to the game?

    • Why do you need to slide? SoT doesn't have headshots that you need to avoid or obstacles that need to be bypassed by sliding under them? Even games like Destiny that do have a slide only have it because "it looks cool".

    • What would crouching and lying down be used for? SoT doesn't have PvE stealth mechanics or automatic weapons that need ADS stability mechanics. Stealth against players is already achieved and well established via the use of specific tucking emotes. And the ability to view in 3rd person while hiding is already way more useful than a function to lie down in 1st person.

    • Climbing over small obstacles is probably the most sensible suggestion but there's nothing in the game that's completely inaccessible just because the game doesn't auto-clamber you up a ledge or a barrel. You can easily traverse the world with the humble jump.

    Roblox and Warzone are two wildly different games from Sea of Thieves. Would you also ask for those games to get an Ocean, sailable ships and naval combat features?

  • People will also be confused if they go from Mario Party to Doom... or Call of Duty to Skyrim, and that is because they are different types of games.

    Sea of Thieves currently is the only game of its type... with extraction shooters being the closest that come to it.

    While they can add more traversal systems, this isn't a twitch shooter (Though aspects of it are similar) so adding mechanics to make it more twitchy don't necessarily have a place.

    We are getting more options, and they did only give us a sneak peak at what is coming in Season 14, but since this ship needs a balance between ship to ship and person to person combat, adding too many things to make the TDMers happy will upset that balance.

    I have heard pirates do love a nice bit of tea! Im sure there would be no issue if it comes in a bag, right?

    combat on boats would be interesting with cod mobility.

  • @vakrisone obviously I didn't expect them to add all these features, but you know what they say "you always have to aim for the moon to at least reach the sky".

    What these suggestions could bring to the game are more possibilities for the pvp game obviously, it may not hurt your head as you mention but you could dodge a bullet by crouching, and the stealth mechanics may be something they add in S14 of pirates of mischief as they mentioned.
    Some of these suggestions might not bring a big change but in my point of view, they don't take anything away from the game from what it already has, it would just make it more practical in some aspects.

    warzone and roblox have it but it is not pirate style
