So, I've been playing a good deal of hourglass pvp somewhat recently. It's a nice mode, you can matchmake somewhat quickly, and get fights when you want pvp. The curses at the end are quite nice, probably the most requested curses ever. My main problem with this mode is that the way it is balanced currently for allegiance gains makes it near impossible for players who are bad at pvp and unable to improve for whatever reason, or have really reached their personal maximum skill, to get these curses without it feeling like ripping your teeth out. This is because the only viable way to get reputation is with win streaks, rather than just wins, losses, turning in a treasure stash, or cashing out after a single win. A decent streak can give as much allegiance as more than twenty losses, and this makes it effectively impossible for players who are bad at pvp to get the rewards at the end. Personally, the ways I can see for fixing this include the following, any of which could be done or any combination of them could be done:
-
Increasing the rewards from losses
-
Increasing the rewards from singular wins compared to streaks
-
Increasing the rewards for cashing out after a single win
-
Increasing the rewards for cashing out with various treasure grades aboard your ship
Additionally, I generally think that it should be easier to get to 100 in your faction, and a bit easier to get from 100 to 200. The real challenge should be the ranks between 200 and 1000, as the golden skeleton bones and the golden ghost curse are ultimately the true reward to show off your pvp talent. The skeleton and ghost curses are difficult and can show moderate skill or dedication, but are still a bit too difficult to get. I'm not saying that streaks shouldn't be the best way of getting allegiance or something, I'm mostly just trying to say that I think that they shouldn't be the only viable way, and that other methods such as treasure grade in particular should be made more viable. That way, players who are dedicated and want to get their curse can do so, with it being more difficult if they aren't good at pvp, but not infuriating or something that would either make them just give up or burn out of the game entirely
