The profound lack of “Open Seas”

  • With all the little additions to the game over the years, more and more stuff have been added to the map. The most obstructing of all being massive stone arches

You can never really sail your ship into the endless horizon in search for new adventure.

I think this is a larger problem than we let on

The map just feels so, congested and full

I think what can help alleviate this:
Create a sizeable expansion to the map, with only 2 large islands
Maybe a pirate themed one and a Naval/Royal themed one

Have the islands be quite far apart, and nothing in between just waters. Splash tiny uncharted islands in there for flavor at most

The game just lacks that sense of adventure, mystery and beauty that open waters provide

  • Sail along the far south edge from all the way east to all the way west and get back top us.

Passage making is not all it is cracked up to be.

  • There's a whole area to the south of the map that is mostly just long stretch of ocean. I think people call it the Deep Sea.

  • @crowedhunter yes I’m familiar with it. I just wish there was more of a reason to be out there. Some sort of destination beyond it.
That’s why I felt like two really cool islands in the middle of nowhere can bring a lot of flavor

  • Not much interest in it in my experience.

I've spent a lot of time over the years in open sea, hunting megs, doing my own thing, reading on the shipwrecks, rarely see anyone else doing it.

Typically the activity is ships coming to attack me out of curiosity lol

People really just don't do much of that sort of stuff in my experience. Especially since so many sail in groups, tough to get a whole group to approach the environment in that kinda way, someone always gets bored.

  • @dairboi Well for me, I go down there to fish for keys while still being available for meg, skellies, and Kraken.

"...sail your ship into the endless horizon..."

I found a reason in your OP 🐳

  • @foambreaker I mean there’s a difference

That’s like me saying I want to go on a hike and you tell me I should get a treadmill

    Head toward the Shroud....

I think this is a larger problem than we let on

    Hmm? Explain

The map just feels so, congested and full

Most of the map is blocked by the shroud, at one point the DR was hidden.

Create a sizeable expansion to the map, with only 2 large islands

Until (if ever) the game drops the old XBOX one and heads further to the Xbox series X, it cant due to limitations.

he game just lacks that sense of adventure, mystery and beauty that open waters provide

Are we even in the same game?

  • @burnbacon
They’ve said multiple times it has nothing to do with the old gen xboxs

But if u want a band aid fix literally annihilate the whole lava lands fix

And if not, open ocean for miles I doubt would generate as much lag as you think

  • While I do like the more recent additions of mermaid temples and spanish forts, the game feels very crowded for me ever since then.

  • I think they could probably remove the portal arch stones and just have the portals materialize without them, just to get rid of some visual clutter. Your ship doesn't need to be perfectly centered on them anyways to enter the portal so while approaching them from the edge side might look weird I don't think it matters.
