A pirate Island! new community hub

  • So, I feel adding a new hub that has the following qualities, would be a great addition to the game, and it could boost the social aspect of the game, and create more player stories.

    Create a new Island, where there's Parley, they way parley works, is that you aren't allowed to attack others, but I don't mean, you are unable to damage each other, I mean, if you do, the entire fort turns against you, and your crew, they sink your ship, etc.

    Loot cannot be sold here, I think this one speak for itself, if we aren't able to sell loot, people will have the regular incentives to go to the regular outposts

    you can purchase, voyages, captain voyages, you could even make them thematic, or perhaps better ones that you can get in outposts, you can also restock and repair your ship

    Maybe some sort of negotiation table, where gameplay depth could be added to alliances, and we can set up percentage loot splits, like a big crew and a sloop do a 70%/30% split, and it could be handled by the game so players know it's fair

    and there could be other incentives to get people on this island

    The idea here, is to try to create a player hub with groups of people

    I really like this. Reminds me of the outpost in “Rust”. I’d like to piggy back off what you’re saying and suggest maybe having this island within the respawn area. Instead of the ferry of the damned sailing through an empty space, maybe it could be docked at this island you’re talking about.

    When you die in combat or your ship sinks you could hop off the ferry and go to this social area to interact with other pirates in your server and share stories of how your ship got sank.

  • Ok lets be fair a lot of us want an area where we could meet up with other pirates without having to worry about watching our backs.

    Why not create an area off the map like the red sea but can be called sea of friends, it's not an outpost it's not inside the main map but on the side of it so it's basically an area to socialize, doesn't have to be a big area just a small tavern like scumm bar as an example but with a few things to do like swordfighting against others without actually dying and some other minigames that give you achievements.

    How about we just bring back the arena waiting room? No island and it’s outside the adventure world. It mainly to chat with players and form crews.

  • @eva1977 The difficulty is how to fit it in. For example if someone enters do they still count towards the 6 on the server? What if the captain of a captained ship enters, but not the crew? Can someone being attacked run there? Don't answer these few because they are examples in 100s; a safe place in a sandbox is fraught with perils.

    The one thing I could see is for it to be a place you can optionally go to before logging in to a ship, crew and server. Possibly even being able to form crews there, so right off the main menu.

    Glorified Crew Finder

    • At Main Menu Select S c u m Bar
    • Socialize
    • Pick Ship (one crew member)
    • Form Crew
    • Enter Game

    Nothing in that area would be made or lost, no gold exchanged or items purchased.

  • @foambreaker Simple you can't die there but you can still take anyones treasures.
    So it's not a safe haven for runners as it would make no sense for anyone to go to a place where you can carry items but not fight back. So it would not work for attackers either because they can take your treasure but the moment they drop it to sail their ship away you can just take it back and nothing they can do about it basically causing a stalemate of sorts.
    It would mostly be a place where you go when you don't have any treasures as there is nothing you can do with them there either.
    Anyways it's a concept, sure there are tons of scenarios which i might not have thought off but most likely can be determined and tweaked with player feedback as usual with live service games.

  • @foambreaker But that is a good idea as well as i actually like the scumm bar and rather than have it abandoned like the disney content after tall tale is completed, other uses for it are welcomed in my book.

  • I very much want a tavern where pirates can meet and hobnob with other pirates. I would even go so far as to have players vote on an item in a tavern and sail the ship through the portal stones or dive under the waves to go to the role playing tavern in the sea of the damned where you can kibbitz and chitchat with other pirates. Meet a friendly pirate, invite them to your crew. I want a player hub so bad...

    ...but I'm being idealistic and imagining it only filled with good-faith participants. In reality there will be trolls that join just to mock you for being there, pumping death metal through their audio input, or just screeching for no reason what so ever. Anyone who has spent any time in the arena lobby before it got good again after they announced its retirement knows what I'm talking about.

    Before this could work they need to implement the ability to mute a specific pirate so those trolls and bad-faith participants can be easily ignored by the rest of the pirates in the hub.

  • I understand the mentality for this, and I could see them eventually adding something in the vein of the "Maiden Voyage" where it is just a "Find a shipmate" sort of thing.

    However: There is a reason they turned off communication in the Arena Tavern... there are horrible people out there, and if you create a social hub where people can just chill and hang out there will be racists, sexists, homophobic, and every other type of person dredged from the pits of humanity coming to ruin it for everyone.
