How can a newbie learn nowdays?

  • I am still getting smashed by camping ships that pursue me all around the world just to get 1 FOTD, from grinding perspective its really stupid but I get that sweaty players have nothing else to do. I want to learn the pvp but at the same time I cant! Getting double gunned in 2 seconds will make me learn how dying works and master dying in that sense, now with arena gone where it mixed all players, noobs too, now theres hourglass where you mostly naval and is packed with sweaty players or cheaters. Literally no idea where to train aim in this game and navalsense, they are just spamming everything they got at you and its not fun dying to a sweaty ship over and over. I understand why people quit because if you hadnt played when everybody was trash at the game, you just cant learn. Also loving the camping dark adventure players that hide behind a rock and then will follow you even to the shores if they have to. I dont think pirates did that but whatever, looking into the emporium i can see where this game is heading. The best moments I have is from doing pve content with others, alliancing and actually helping each other. All I have is disgusting racial slurs being put at me while the tryhard camps the boat and no scopes me all over again. Please can you give me tips to rain aim somewhere, I am losing and wasting my time doing pve content and getting sweated. Thank You!

Don’t spend gold on supplies. Just grab pockets and dive with default supplies. Play solo and you’ll go up against other solos.

Just know going into it that you will probably face players who are better at the game than you and you will probably sink more than win at first. Remember this is the expected outcome so prepare for it.

But the good part is you can fight on demand as much as you want and every fight is practice.

  • @gamecowcz do you play on Xbox or pc? If you’re Xbox, try going on Xbox only servers, they’re usually better and not so sweaty. Alternatively, Hourglass is your best bet if you want to practice your PvP skills. You’re gonna sink, but you may win too.

  • @tesiccl I almost forgot about the xbox only! I think most of the sweats are on PC because of only reason.... Twitch. I met a lot of people purposely gaslighting if you get killed by them to get you banned, Ill try though. Also I love bigger ship battles but people from discord too leave mid battle if we get 1 hole... Thanks for the tip!

  • @fishervon Thanks! Motivated me to do more hourglass, I would love going on bigger ship battles like brig or galleon but players from discord or LFG leave mid battle

If you just want to be left alone then don’t do FotD. Server events like that (forts, fleets, etc.) were always meant to bring multiple crews to the area to fight it out. The server events themselves are not that difficult given enough time. Often, a new player jumps on and sees a skull or waterspout from across the map and says, “we should go check that out.” Also, if you watch streamers it looks like forts are what you are meant to focus on. They do that because content like that (large payouts and multiple conflicts) attracts more eyeballs to the stream. Focus on voyages and other content as you learn.

Also, do not join an any of the emissary groups. Yes, you gain a loot bonus for flying the flag, but it puts a target on your ship. The emissary is meant to enhance PvP for people wanting more conflicts in return for greater loot. I get it. When presented with the option of joining an emissary faction it seems logical to do it in return for the loot bonus. But it leads others to seek out your ship for the flag. When you fly those flags you are opting for the extra spicy game session.

  • Time

Efficiency will save you more loot and lead you to more progress than winning fights ever will as a player that values pve.

Set many realistic goals and then consistently but casually work towards them. It doesn't need to be done, it's what you would like to accomplish.

If you attach fun and victory to winning random fights you will regularly be frustrated. Create your win conditions.

Victory is not in the random battles that flood the journey it's getting to the point where combat has no control over you, losing has no control over you, the point where your contentment is formed by appreciation for the parts of the experiences that you enjoy, not by outcome

Performance improves with time, with repetition, let that occur naturally. It'll fit better.

Focusing on things you don't like, people you don't like, conduct you don't like takes the focus off things you do like, people you do like, conduct you appreciate, your own conduct and approach. You are building a foundation for yourself, it's a weaker foundation when you are distracted by the incompatibility randomly around you.

Always carry optimism and appreciation with you, even if you sink, get sent to the ferry, encounter people you don't wanna be around, there is always something in your story to appreciate and always opportunity to look forward to.

Encourage others. There will be moments during your sessions where you will have the power to improve the experience of others. No matter how insignificant the effort may seem the impact may be significant. This is a game but it's an adventure game and one where people are as real as they are everywhere else. Encouraging others while you learn and grow is a valuable resource.

Expectations just lead to disappointment and it slows down improvement, if things aren't working out in the moment just move forward and move on. Start a new session and try again.

  • @gamecowcz You should definitely check out phuzzybond and especially blurbs. They have amazing guides and blurb's videos are what helped me learn PvP. Also, practice practice practice hourglass. Most people get a lot better by just doing PvP. Alternatively, you could ask some people here on the fourums or on the discord to play and teach you. I'm sure pleanty of people would be willing to help you!

Here is a all around new up to date short guide to PvP by Blurbs. I HIGHLY suggest you watch it. If you want more info about certain things he talks about, check out his PvP playlist with videos about basically everything.

    Guide link

Happy sailing! Hope you get better!
