i keep having this problem where someone joins my crew just to sail the ship away while i am trying to do something...
literally like five minutes ago i was trying to fight with the sails then they just start pouring the loot off of my ship until a galleon sails by and sinks me... then they use text to speech to say that I was the one stopping them from selling loot... can you add a feature to let captains kick players from their crew?
or at least add a report button??
MY ship...
@ZiG-ZaG-LTU is right. don't play in open crew, play solo or try to meet someone.
BTW rare doesn't ban even the cheaters, the Reakky toxic players (the one who spawncamps you just because he's annoyed, so imagine how useless is trying to ask for some punishment for someone who plays in a weird but total legit way
In open crew I'd recommend sticking to being the one that joins rather than the one taking the gamble on someone joining you
this will allow you to find more compatibility and it also allows you to be someone that is the lucky gamble for another. Joining the crews of others while willing to help maintain the ship and help with their voyages or whatever they are doing will lead you to more productive and compatible experiences.
When running your own ship it'll always be a gamble to let a random person in so if that isn't working out you can try one of the many discords around the sot community to bring someone in with maybe a higher chance of success.
You own your captained ship, it is yours, so when you end up with a freeloader who goes afk to collect the profits, or a toxic crewmate who sabotages your ship, you should have the option to throw them overboard (Kick them from your crew) which should send them back to the menu with a message saying “You walked the plank”
Also, although I fully agree with being able to kick people from a captained ship, for now I would recommend stick to LFG and only Inviting people with at least 20 days played who are older, I typically only play with people who are 20-35 sometimes we find members in their 40’s and 50’s but not so much. I never get anyone sabotaging the ship but I do occasionally get the afk free loaders.

Unfortunately this will also give people the means to remove someone who actually helped out during the voyage or session to make room for a friend.
When someone is kicked out after long session, just before turning 100k or more or when a Shrouded Ghost is spotted, it'll probably be the last time they join someone on a captained ship ...@lem0n-curry So if you rent a flat, do some refurbishing like painting the walls, changing carpets, the owner still has the right to kick you out. Obviously with enough notice if everything was under a contract.
I really don't understand why a lot of people give this blind 'Nope' response without ever suggesting anything useful to sort this problem out. You, I and everyone else here knows that open crew has its problems, yet very few people suggest how to fix it, but some random scenario that wouldn't even happen often at all is the sole reason not to even think about what someone suggests....Ok fine, what you wrote might lead to 5% of players in open crew being affected that way, how about a notification of 30 minutes, or the person who leaves the crew being eligible to receive the rewards and the person who replaces him not for the next 30mins-1hour?

So I sail with a friend, they have to walk the dog, I kick him out, open up the crew and the poor random won't get anything of the loot they turn in / protect from other crews ?
Not a good solution either.5% ? Made-up number.
If a crewmate breaks the ToS by being toxic or blowing up the ship &c, report them, hopefully Rare will take action and maybe they'll learn their lesson.
@lem0n-curry Made up scenarios get made up numbers. When was the last time your mate had to walk a dog and you went for open crew?

Using an example; I'd rather solo a galleon in a storm than open the crew with significant loot on board 😁.
Is your made up number of people getting kicked higher or lower than your made up number of people being joined by a toxic person / free loader in open crew.
@lem0n-curry If you make 100k with someone , which would probably take 2-3 hours, the one joining the crew is a free loader. Also this is not the game I am familiar with, if you really meshed well enough with someone to make that much, you would tell your mate to wait and then you could just do a brig. Putting some timers to prevent toxic behavior would minimize such instances (in my opinion).
So ok, how would you fix the open crew? Its obviously an afterthought atm and a great place to push people away from this game.
I agree with you 100% about not letting to kick players - if the ship is 'rented'. This option should be only available for captained ships.
Also like a lot of people here who advocate 'tools not rules' about sinking new players with emissary flags, we finally have a warning 'fly one at your own risk as you become a target'
so simply making an option to join a captained ship with a warning displaying ' joining a captained ship will allow the captain to make you walk the plank' should satisfy 'status quo' defenders here innit?

Oh, I would as well, unfortunately not everyone does.
Just like there are currently trolls in open crew, some of those trolls will switch their behaviour being trolls as captains of an open crew.
I'd rather start a new session if I have a troll on my crew, than being mistreated by getting kicked out after an hour or more playing. Neither scenario is fun - the latter is also a great waste of time and probably a reason why someone might never join open crew again when they have a chance of getting kicked out.

If I had a solution, I'd let you know; what I don't want is a feature that might make the experience even worse.
People should be wary of opening up a crew during a session or perhaps even close the crew when a crewmate leaves, as they might get a troll in their place.

It will also have consequences for the pirate code ... the one where all pirates are equal ...
Also like a lot of people here who advocate 'tools not rules' about sinking new players with emissary flags, we finally have a warning 'fly one at your own risk as you become a target'
I thought that warning is because some players didn't read up on the consequences and were told or assumed that it was a good way to earn more gold without realising the consequences ... not new players per se.
Note that new players wouldn't have the levels of raising an emissary anyway.so simply making an option to join a captained ship with a warning displaying ' joining a captained ship will allow the captain to make you walk the plank' should satisfy 'status quo' defenders here innit?
I'm not a status quo defender, I'm against introducing mechanics that make the game worse.
@lem0n-curry I understand your stance, but I don't think it's possible to make open crew worse than it is. Unless your computer would automatically switch off maybe, instead of waiting for you to do it when people would start burning your ship as an example :D
PS. I would go further with my suggestion (which I dont think makes the game worse as you said) is to only allow Pirate legends to join Captained open crew, or have some half way point introduced. So you wouldn't be able to do it in your first session of the game etc.
Also those who want to troll will always find a way.
This has been done to death but it shall be said again. If you can kick people then there will be people who abuse the feature to kick others out if they see a shrouded ghost or the person starts a limited voyage, then they will invite a friend to do the voyage.
This is a problem of open crew, if you dont want to risk trolls, do not use open crew.

Seriously, people here try to find a problem for every solution, no matter how absurd or unlikely.
@scheneighnay some imaginary scenarios at least make sense, but when shrouded ghost becomes one i get close to writting something that would give me a warning or a ban.
