The Barrels O' Oil would work as such. The barrels would be available for purchase at Merchant Alliance trading tents on every outpost and be sold for 10,000 gold the Barrels O' Oil would work similarly to a Gunpowder Barrel when shot or hit with a sword rather than emitting an Explosion, the Barrel would combust into a giant patch of fire, these Barrels would allow the opportunity to create strings of fuel that could be ignited with a gun shot or a firebomb, working alongside gunpowder barrels to create traps and be able to rig up islands, this could be used to create fun voyages/scenarios for crews on the seas, and have tie-in commendations along-side it.
The Barrel when holding, pressing RT, or left click, would start pouring the oil, and once you're finished LT, and Right click will stop the pour, The Barrel would have a percentage indicator to let the player know the barrel is empty. Once used up the barrel would be deemed useless.

they nerfed kegs into near irrelevance in pvp
was much better when kegs were a very serious threat imo because it opened up for more underdog win scenarios and interesting organic pvp over loot.
