People from all around the world play sea of thieves, i think it is a good idea to add a collection of country flags for masts so players can have more options costumizing their ship's mast, also it would be cool seeing some country's flags from a distance while searching for other ships on the sea

@tesiccl I'm not sure if that argument holds up, we have rainbow flag and everyone is ok, you can simply switch off coms and report it. I would love to fly my countrys flag while in the game, but I must agree it's an extra target for toxic players. Perhaps something a bit more subtle, that you could only see from up close?
@zig-zag-ltu the rainbow is just a rainbow, it’s not promoting anything other than a rainbow. I know what you’re inferring but that’s your attachment to that, not the game specifying that’s what it represents.
@zig-zag-ltu I mean, if we get these guilds that have been rumoured, then custom guild flags/sails would be AMAZING to add in.
@wanish5402 my example above wasn’t about the age of the countries, but more on the conflicts and the fact people will mock or abuse others for representing certain countries. It’s a can of worms Rare have been right to keep in the cupboard.
@wanish5402 that would be cool, and it would match sea of thieves theme like on the 18th or 19th century, flags from that period could be nice to see added
@Wanish5402 Yes, I agree totally. Rare should add flags from the time period of the golden age of pirates like England and the Dutch. Maybe even ships sets, that would be awesome role-play 😁
@wanish5402 they had region based sails back in the Skelly ship days when the content came out, but that’s as close as we’ve got I think. No Roar obv cause it wasn’t out yet.
Imo it's different than something like what the rainbow flag means to some and the overall effect on the game and compatibility within the game
I might be an American cowboy but in the game I'm a piratical cowboy. I might wear flowers in my hair but the states aren't relevant on the seas.
In a fantasy world personal and piratical identity are relevant under Captaincy but offline regional focus isn't a part of the lore or design.
Why is that relevant? because then it brings in trouble without serving the fantasy environment.
Just my view of the situation. It might change in the future as the environment changes but right now I think it separates more than it serves.

i think thay can made more small pvp factions, like for example "drunken pirates" (neutral to athena enemy for reapers) and so on...
Sure with flags to made more local battles in sea, made friends with friend fraction, and lot more.
And need to make choice of fractions what u can take and u can change it in next day or week, sure with rewards for xp what u can gain for selling loot for example or small quests like cargo, or help someone

As much as I love this idea bring in country flags there are concerns regarding some flags in which players will abuse such as the Ukrainian flag in which some Russian players will target and vise versa and potentially mock real world events which is not needed at all. Sea of Thieves is a world in its own in the end of the day. If you want more flags, I would suggest making some designs and uploading them here or make another thread with some cool designs!
Bad idea, reminds me of war thunder 2014 where certain flags started explicitly targeting certain other flags to because of global politics.
It got bad enough that friendly fire got disabled from that point on over it, as they would start outright teamkilling eachother over their flags.
In Sea of Thieves it would be a harassment magnet.@wanish5402 where can i find the devs talking about this topic? or is it in the game's code of conduct that we read before agreeing to terms and conditions?

The Prinsenvlag , although nice, it is tainted by the use of the Dutch national socialist party in the 1930's/40's; being part of the old South-African flag wouldn't help either.
The jack of the Dutch royal navy would be better though; as I don't think national flags should be in he game (and some crews are of more than nationality anyway), perhaps some colour variants of flags would be nice.
@dangames7 Hi! I can shed some light on this - Sea of Thieves is escapsim from the real world and the grief and conflict that come with it. Adding country flags, while allowing some to show their cultural identity with pride, would also allow others to target, harass and abuse players. This is never something we will condone or encourage and as such, we keep real-life imagery and iconography out of our game.

This has been requested before, and the general sentiment is that it would cause issues among some, and that the countries that exist in the real world may not even exist in the sea of thieves. Not to mention the fact that you tend to be put into servers that are local to you, meaning if you are from australia, you will see a lot of australia flags and not much else, same goes for any other large countries.
