Speargun Fishing Update for the Hunters Call

  • The Hunters Call is currently not engaging enough, and I think that their long overdue update can be used to also highlight a criminally underused aspect of the Sea of Thieves environment, the sea bed. Currently, both of these things are underutilized and I propose a speargun that can be used to catch fish swimming under the waves by the seabed to incentivize exploration of these areas. The speargun would use consumable spears that can be found like other supplies, or bought from the shipwright. The limited nature of these spears would encourage players to save them for rarer types of fish. Fish would be spread out based on region and certain fish would have different behaviors. For example, stormfish could hurt players be impaling them, wreckers biting, etc.

  • I don't have an issue with this

but I would prefer bringing a bow to the game as a weapon that can also be used for bow fishing

  • I want to be able to use my ship's harpoons as harpoons

  • There are quite a great deal of good ideas many of you fishermen have came up with and I love to see it, I just unfortunately think Rare isn't interested. They're aware hunter's call has a lower player base and therefore will just throw us on the backburner. Here's hoping though (I've been asking for fishing itself to simply be more engaging or at least to allow us to set the line and not just watch it run away 20feet into the ocean).

I think the only reason there's a low playerbase for it is that there isn't much content for it and some of the content that is there doesn't happen on demand.

  • I love the spear gun idea. The Hunter's Call needs an update just in general. Exploring the sea floor and hunting for fish sounds like a lot of fun. I would love to be able to collect lobster and bait traps for crab. I assume one of the reasons the popularity of fishing is down in the game is because there isn't much depth to the system. All fish act the same way and they take just about the same amount of time to catch. The way fishing is designed right now, is kind of boring. Give us different sized fish other than trophy and normal. Add new fish similar to tuna, sailfish, king mackerel, goliath grouper, barracuda, etc. Some of those fish should be huge and require the use of a spear gun or the ship's harpoon. Make it competitive by awarding the largest catch of the day or month. You could tie it to something like the ledger rewards. This would also give people a reason to hold fishing tournaments in the game. New sealife in general would be an awesome addition to the game.

Exactly, but if Rare wants to update it they'll have to take a risk in HOPING that whatever change they make will actually attract people to Hunter's Call. I think the only way to do that is a big enough game mechanic that people want to play a part in or an overhaul of how the Call works (have catching fish be a multifaceted process of making money by making meals or using x fish for bait to catch bigger fish? Also, the whole fishing mechanic as a whole could be changed there).

I'm not sure if brewing would be something they'd list under Hunter's Call but I think that would be a good implementation. You can throw a fruit into your kegs and produce different kinds of alcohol to sell or drink for various effects. And I still believe that they could implement this little at a time if they were pressed in their work. I think everyone here can agree we don't expect a cup full of content all at once every 3 months, but we'd be happy with slow implementations every now and again that slowly shine and refine the game.

You don't get a pair of shiny boots after one coat of wax, you need to keep buffing and waxing. I don't know why they refuse to take this approach..
