Cannot Update/ Install the game since December update

  • Hello,
I cannot download Sea of theives on the Microsoft Store. I keep getting Something went wrong on our end and the error code 0x80070005. I have tried many troubleshooting methods:

I have deleted the microsoft store and reinstalled it. I have deleted local cache files. I have uninstalled and reinstalled seas to a new hardrive instead of my ssd. I have repaired and reset the store. I have tried several command codes. I also completely reinstalled Windows. Windows support told me its probably a registry issue. I dont know what else to do I have played Seas on this PC for years. I played last on Dec 7th 2022 on the same PC and when I tried to update the game since then Ive not been able to.

Please give me a solution D:
    Thank you

  • @chidgeth Is it just for this game or other games and is Sot and others via xbox app/game pass?

I would also add are you getting your updates ok and run the troubleshooters for updates and apps. Though if you are still getting this error after reinstalling windows (full clean install?) then that is odd.

  • @scoobywrx555 Just for the game, I didnt do the full one where I delete everything but I would really like to avoid it. Ive contacted sea support and they are just sending me automatic fixes that Ive already tried :/

  • They asked me to do this :
    #3
1.Download the content from the store, to the point where it fails at 99% / Install phase
    2. Open PowerShell and run run this command:
    Add-AppXPackage -RegisterByFamilyName -MainPackage Microsoft.SeaofThieves_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    3. Click Retry in the store à This should now succeed

but I told them this happened: https://snipboard.io/UzGry9.jpg

  • @chidgeth hmm 0x80070005 is a permissions error. Kinda happened back in the day particularly with the appdata folder where ms store games normally go. As you say usually fixed by the usual command codes and troubleshooters. Now you can choose your install drives and folders and as long as you are logged in with the same account and don't mess with the permissions should be ok.
The xbox app and gaming services can cause update issues, particularly with updating itself; but if it's only for this game...
