What is an average player?

  • I have a question to all SoT community here, what, in your opinion, is an average player? Is it a person who stops after pl? Is it a kraken/crab? Is it a person who has a 50% sink rate and competent at what they are doing. Cuz I was thinking about the new curses and how far are these players far from an average player by skill (in both PVP and PVE alike). So what, in your personal opinion, is an average SoT player?

  • From my perspective an average player is someone who plays this game sometimes, not too frequent, not too rarely. It would be someone who doesn't play this on a daily basis, but also is someone who clearly show signs of activity in this game. I think an average player has some commendations done, while others are locked for them. A player who doesn't play this when they feel like it, when they feel a burnout they leave and after some time they come back to see what's new. Perhaps an average player is exactly the middle ground of a rookie who barely touched the game that is in their library, and a sweat who plays this constantly every single day and can sink a galleon on their own.

  • I honestly think the "average" player has a regular crew or finds one on Discord, they play a few hours 1-3 nights a week, they generally play PVE content and may will choose to engage or disengage from other ships based on the situation. The PVEVP'ers really are the silent majority of players I think.

By this definition, I’m an average player. But I am working my way up to be a sweat. 😄

  • It's changed over time

the middle activity has taken a huge hit over the seasons, didn't change with 8, 8 brought in more high skill pvpers but not middle activity

When organic activity was healthier you might see a content creator once or twice a year, now you might see them daily because of so little middle organic activity

it's a lot of brand new players that are gonna bounce and lifers that are involved in either content creation (their mods, their hoppers, etc) or the social areas in general

running into a truly random experienced player that isn't a known name or someone that runs in social circles is quite rare.

I used to find them all the time, very rarely find one now (in random adventure)

It's what they cater to, the brand new players for the numbers, they come in buy some emporium stuff, sail, around, that's about it and content creators that get the views for the product.

Often I'm asked what does a hero pirate truly need? Hehe. Much depend upon the pirate. Would you be swift? Then for you, I have bunny hopping and sword lunging. Would you be strong? Then I can grant you the might of pineapples and kraken meat to resist! Would you be wise? Then come closer and I will show you the wiki and guide websites so you can get knowledge of the game! What does a pirate truly need? That is for you to decide.

  • The average player who starts playing this game, is playing something else. I would bet less than 10% make it to the first month.

It takes pretty thick skin to get though the first few weeks.

  • I would say there are 2 types of average players: PvE and PvP.

For PvE, the average player is someone who understands how de game works, know what to do in each voyage, but he faces difficulties in doing a few things, like skelly fleet on brig, or quickly finding items in Thieves Haven voyage. In my point of view, usually it takes 1-3 months to be an average player in it.

For PvP, he knows what to do in combat, but has not enough experience and face difficulties in some situations, like not confident enough to face a larger crew, or not knowing how to prioritize what to do in moments of extreme stress (especially when at a disadvantage). In my point of view, with an experienced person as a "teacher" and focus, usually it takes more than 3 months to be an average player in it. In my case, as I started doing only PvE and then PvEvP, it took me more than 7 months to be "not bad". I had friends to teach me and I'm still "not bad", lol

  • what, in your opinion, is an average player

Average player is someone who complains about the grind too hard. So many of these players, not enough players who simply...Just play the game and enjoy.

  • @guyrza I'd say minimum 40 days playtime, knows all the mechanics of the game although still working on them, reasonably competent in all voyage types.

Enjoys walks on the beach and kegging their teammates 😅

  • @hiradc Stop spying on my gameplay! XD

  • @a10dr4651 around 52 days played, maybe 154 achievements, delivered their first piece of treacherous plunder this year 🤣🤣🤣

  • @hiradc I panicked then and thought you'd just looked my profile up. I'm the same, delivered my first treacherous plunder this year also. I thought it was about time I did.

  • @a10dr4651 I did mate lol, only in jest though. That was all you I was describing 😅

  • @hiradc haha nice, you got me XD. edit* 221 is the total so 154 like you said, I read it wrong. I'm not a big fan of fishing lol

  • @a10dr4651 yeah you have 154 out of 221 according to xbox profile 😅

Sounds like my friends and I used to do before they got ROFL stomped at an outpost by server hopping reapers and quit the game to play Fortnight/Destiny 2. 😭

I'd have to agree with that judging by the low numbers of players who appear to get even the easiest SoT Xbox achievement.
