Season 8 1v1 PVP "queue" mechanic and Runners.

  • So we can now queue for a 1v1 battle at any time during our session and be transported underwater to "queue" for a 1v1 against another ship.

    It seems like we can take our flag with us and Loot from what I gathered on the announcement.

    What's to stop people from using this as a "runaway" mechanic when they are getting chased and have no intention of engaging in PVP?

    Therefore I have some questions:

    First of all, Can you bring loot?

    Will your loot drop for the ship originally chasing you if you use this mechanic to run?

    Can you cancel the queue? If so will you be back at your original server?

    Hopefully, they thought this out for those cowardly "Pirates" out there.

    On the other hand, the new customizable skelly and ghost curses look pretty cool.

  • Maybe a force quit. Then the loot would get stuck? Gonna find out Tuesday. I don't think you'll run into many people using this technique tho.

  • I doubt you can take loot. It will likely operate like the other on request server merge and drop everything.

  • If you use it to runaway from a fight in open adventure, then you’ll get placed into a PvP match where you’ll sink if you leave the battle area. It increases the likelihood of you sinking and losing your loot.

    You forgot one very, very, VERY important part. In order to use the War Map, you NEED to flag yourself for PvP with the Hourglass of Fate.

    Doubtful. You are traveling by "portal" so loot wont stay but resources will.

    From the video, it says you have to use the war map to jump, and your loot is left behind.

    One issue I have with this whole thing is, how easy it gonna be to cheese.

    The video said you get a bonus for defending with loot on board, meaning you were attacked by a ship that popped onto your server.

    Assuming you can keep loot, i would say, probably the fact that it puts you into another place for pvp, with a boarder that you cant leave without your ship exploding.

  • It would be the most idiotic way of running. They would be running from a crew, only to fight another crew in a different server, where running is impossible due to the proximity boarder.

    So people may use this to run if they can keep loot, but they would be better off actually running and not matchmaking into a fight where they can't run at all.

    That's just my understanding of the system.

    The ONLY way i could see some one using it effectively is if they know that the crew chasing them is better than them and they would rather try for some one they may have better chances with, but even then its a gamble if the crew they match with is still more dangerous.

  • @goldsmen You don't keep loot. It's just like portal hopping. You keep your emissary flag and any supply crates but you drop anything that counts as loot.

    Well im not insiders and all my info is speculation from the newly released public trailer of season 8

    This is assuming you can even keep loot and that you cant just cancel the queue and avoid any fight.

    I mean people literally kill themselves in the red sea and or portal hop with the jack sparrow tall tales to avoid losing a fight. So you cant rule this out. If there is a mechanic people will abuse it.

    They can always make changes after feedback comes in, which is common for new content like this.

    When it comes to direction they are set in their ways but when it comes to people doing cheesy stuff outside of the spirit of it they can address it with changes.

    Opt in pvp is a pretty big deal so they are likely to keep a close eye on it to make sure it's operating as intended.

    I wouldn't worry about it too much on this particular content.

    Emissaries had quite a few changes over time to try to get it more to what they had in mind.

    Red Sea ends it. So does a PL portal. This would put you in a situation that you're still going to have to fight out of. My point is avoiding the fight. There's skill based MM too? So they might get an easier fight, but still have to fight. As someone who runs and will absolutely red sea 🤣 I'd rather not 😁💩

  • Being able to opt-in pvp with loot would be a game-changer for defenders. Wanna force pve players to pvp? Fine! But they can escape to pvp someone else than you! Trading insta-loss unfair fights for fair fights in matchmaking would be an amazing quality of life improvement.

    It would be the end of a PvPvE game - no loot should travel with you when you switch servers on demand, via portal or via this. Neither should any emissary flag IMHO.

    I do wonder if they're going to get rid of the current Emissaried portal hopping system once S8 drops.

    If it creates a problem, it'll (hopefully) be addressed very quickly.
    I doubt you will be able to opt out of the queue beyond logging out for this reason precisely.
